I thought you can do your own cooking.

Since you have such health problem, cooking by yourself didn't come to your mind?

Anyway, if lowering your cholesterol is your aim, then adopting and educating yourself to a vegan diet will sure to help a lot.

And it is a much cheaper way to heal yourself this way effectively.

Yes, I'm eating mostly at home now, but I still need to go out . What else is theree to do in Spore

From the health literature it is obvious that just eating healthy is now no longer sufficient to maintain health. Theres just to much pollution out there. So yo need antioxidants. I've also stopped taking medication & trying to replace the meds with supplements.

I'm taking alot of Carnithine & although its possible to get from food sources, I'm trying to cut down on food to control my weight. Taking supplements like L-Arginine, Omega 3, coq10, Seanol, Green Tea, grape seed etc at levels that would be very difficult to get from food sources.

I'm getting older & the bodies no longer efficent & can't produce things like COQ10.

I concerned with my overal health, heart AND cancer. If I've got one problem I'm concerned that there are other problems lurking. I've seen some friends starting to get serious illesses. Some of them are vegetarians

I would love to interview those vegetarians who got health problem. I wanna know what they are eating daily that lead to health problems.

If you are educated enough to eat, then health is not a issue at all.

I think one gets sick because of improper diet.

Vegetarians may be better off in the cholesterol department but there are other common problems like diabetes, cancer, etc.

Yes I think they should educate everyone on healthy eating. I see too many kids going to KFC, MacD,..

My mother & some of her friends are vegetarians. Some of my friends have become vegetarians for health reasons

However people of her generation are healthier than the new generation. This was back when "organic" foods were the norm & fewer chemicals, pollutants, additives were being used, & to some extent being a vegetarian helps of course.

Although I don't claim to be a vegetarian, I eat very little meat nowadays. No red meat, more fish & chicken. My heart problem is a result of drinking too much sugar . It caused type II diabetes which upset my hormonal balance. Also picked up alot of lead over the years which I'm trying to purge from my system through the use of supplementation e.g. chlorella, spirulina, EDT

Yes there's alot more information available nowadays. Thats why I'm taking all these supplements. Only wish I had the information earlier, could have avoided all the suffering & expense.

Been taking Profibe for a week almost a week now. Its quite easy to consume the product. In the morning I mix it with oats, in the afternoon & evening I just mix it with water & drink it.

I've taken other fiber products like Bios Life but its easier taking Profibe because its tastless. Its also not as thick as Bios Life.

I started with 1 scoop in the morming & 1 scoop in the evening. Thats 2/3 of the recommended dose of 3 scoops per day. Now I'm taling the full recommended dose of 3 scoops per day. Didn't have any problems adjusting to the extra fibre.

I decided to just start taking the product without taking a fasting test for cholesterol. Lifes too short to waste on tests & I don't want give 3 test tubes of blood

1st time I heard this . Do you know if its detailed enough in giving a break down of HDL & LDL?

In Spore a blood test can be expensive at about $160 for a test, not including doctors consultation fee

If anyone is interested in ordering from www.iherb.com you can get a US$5 discount by using the following code "KOK015". Thats kilo-oscar-kilo-zero-one-five. If you use this code you get the discount & I also a discount on future orders.

Some people may think that eating correctly is suffient for good health but look around & you'll find people people with all sorts of problems. In my case a change in diet is too little & too late as I already have problems. Spending on supplements is an investment that I'm willing to make for my health.

I did check with TTSH Pharmacy, Unity Pharmy(Angmo Kio), Mustaffa & found that only Mustaffa had a cholesterol test & that gadget costs$450. The test strip for each test is $8 for cholesterol. The gadget also checks for glucos levels. Its an expensive device & not the cheap test that I was looking for. So I will be ordering from the iHerb a Trimedica test kit for only US$12.74

If you have heart, cholesterol, hypertension(all related problems) you can consider fthe ollowing supplements:

Omega 3- omega 3 will thin the blood & make it less sticky. If you're a vegetarian take a look at flax seed. I've tried Carlsons unflavoured, lemon flavoured, GNC unflavoured & now using the capsule form. The capsule forms are more convenient.
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=8719&at=0

Fibre(now testing profibe) Evidence of lowering cholesterol(weeks of use) & clearing up clog arteris(months of use).

magnesium(250-400mg) but I use higher does 800mg because of hypertension & my kidneys are ok to handle the extra load.
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=2378&at=0

potassium(getting 50mg from multivitamins)

CoQ10(100 to 200mg)-Depends on the type of delivery system e.g. hydrosoluble version cost more. Get more if you are using statin drugs because its well documented that statin drugs deplete CoQ10 from the body.

Vit C- I use GNCs 1,000mg time release. Got it before I found out its cheaper to get from the US.

Vit E - I use Carlson E gems elite because it has tocotrienols & tocopherols i.e. more complete form of Vit E. Carlson is a very reputable company. I also use their cod liver oil
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=2789&at=0

L-arginine(3,000 to 4,000mg) I'm using a L-arginine & Citruline combination product. Its very good, fyi L-arginine is a precursor for Nitric Oxide which cause blood vessels to vasodilate. Some use it for its viagara leffects
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=8103&at=0

L-carnitine(1,000 to 3,000mg) Good for the heart. Helps metabolise fats. Also helps with hypertension. The fumarate preparations are better. Many companies get it from an Italian company name sigma tau.
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=29&at=0

Anit-Oxidants, there are lots of different types of anti-oxidants out ther. Thats why I'm using combination products
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=173&at=0

Glucose control. For those with type II diabets can look at
http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=197&at=0

Virgin cocnut oil. I'm now using cocnut oil for all my cooking. I read so much about the benefits of this oil. This is a cold press oil that doesn't oxidise easily when heated & has plenty of benefits. The brand I got has a yummy taste & I'm using it as a spread on toasted bread

Are you sure? I think it's the other way round.

I had to ship an 18 lb package to Singkieland from the States and the USPS quoted me USD$105.00 and delivery expected in about 4 weeks.

On orders up to $80 they will ship by post. I think its because shipment by post cannot be traced, so if there is a problem iHerb has to absorb the cost & thats why they want to limit their loss up to $80. They charge me only US$10 to send some items by post & it took about 1 week to reach Spore.

There is no limit on quantity & size if using delivery by courier because those shipments can be tracked & insured. Those shipments can be easily tracked at any time by going to DHLs website. It cost me US$28 to ship 22lbs & only takes at most 3-4 working days. The only thing I dislike about using the courier services is that I have to pay gst & $10 admin fee(US$28+gst+$10)

iHerb recently sent me email to update me on the latest shipment cost by courier , its now only US$14. A great deal but still don't like paying gst

I don't know how iHerbs can get such good rates but that why I like to order from them.

What is chelation? Its for everone, the healthy, & those who have had heart problem. It is a way to detox your body form heavy metals pollutants.

It is a non-surgical alternative to stents & open heart surgery.
For a more detailed explanation of chelation can refer to

Bypassing Bypass Surgery, Elmer M. Cranton M.D.
http://www.amazon.com/Bypassing-Byp...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1238295304&sr=8-1
Chelation Therapy, Dr. Morton Walker & Dr. Hitendra Shah
http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Sh...d_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1238295304&sr=8-2

If you're diagnosed with heart problems, the cardiologist will recommend surgery. Either to put in stents or in more serious cases open heart surgery. He will never tell you anything about the cheaper & safer alternative like chelation. In Spore I've only heard of 2 doctors offering chelation(SIN$220-$250 per session). In Malaysia its of course cheaper, in KL(RM$200), in JB(RM$260)

Each chelation process will take 2.5 to 3 hours. You will need anything from 16 to 30+ sessions. After the 16 session it is recommended you do not physically exert yourself for 1 week as new blood vessels are being formed.
To avoid burden on the kidneys, only 2 to 3 sessions should be carried out per week. I wanted to do one sessions per day but the doctor refused

In a typical intravenous chelation session, they'll take your pulse, blood pressure, etc. The nurse will stick a small needle into your arm. The needle is connected to a drip bag containing EDTA(ethylene diamine tetraacetate), magnesium, Vit C,... The hardest part of the whole process is the boredom of sitting for 2 to 3 hours. In Malaysia they have a TV in the room to help pass the time. Towards the end of the session, you will be given some vitamins to help replace those removed by EDTA. After the session, you'll feel the urge to go the toilet.

They're not sure how chelation works. One theory is that it removes the heavy metals pollutants from the body. Once the heavy metals are removed, the body is back to equilibrium & can function properly. In my case tests showed that I had high levels of lead.

What I know is that it works for me(16 sessions) & some friends who have gone through the chelation route. It is recommended that you follow uo with supplements, improved diet, etc. You should also do follow up with maintenance chelations. In my case because I hate needles so I'm following up with oral chealtion. Oral chelation might be less effective but its less time consuming & cheaper. I'm taking the following oral chelation product for maintenance:

http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=4665&at=0

At US$21 per bottle, a 2 months supply. I find it very affordable
I used to take a product called Life Glow Plus but thats a more expensive product which is both a chelation & multivitamin product. I was taking 10 capsules per day but that was when I just got out of the hospital & felt very bad. If you're interested their url:

http://www.oralchelation.com/

There are alot of oral chelation products out there but I think the effective ones are those that have EDTA & the MRM product at US$21/bottle has EDTA as well as MSM & NAC.

Oral chelation is for everyone. If you haven't been diagnosed with heart problems you can do it to detox & avoid future problems. For those facing heart problems, its a safer alternative to surgery. I'm not a doctor but a worker bee just sharing my experience. I hope you find this info useful :o

If you're looking for a cheap way to detox your body & other thereaputic benefits consider getting a FIR Sauna(FAR Infrared).

I got mine from the internet, a Malaysian based distributor who charges SIN$450 which included delievery to a home address in Spore. It is a simple unit where you sit on a tiny chair & zip a tent like stucture around your body with your head sticking out of the tent. On each session I spend about 15 minutes in my tent while watching TV.

Remember to get a FIR Sauna & NOT a steam sauna.

What is FIR Therapy?

While conventional saunas transfer heat by circulating hot air, thus warming your body from your head, our FIR Sauna uses rays that warm your body directly, allowing an in-depth heat at a more pleasant tem- perature of 110-159 degrees F, thus providing more health benefits within a comfortable environment.

Why is FIR Therapy your ideal choice for better health?

Unlike other methods, our FIR Sauna Therapy has the ability to penetrate, refract, radiate and reflect. The human body absorbs FIR because of its deep penetrating ability. Because our FIR Sauna, unlike traditional saunas, doesn't have a tendency to spread and cultivate bacteria in the humid air, it creates a far more sanitary environment.

What are the advantages of the far infrared sauna over a conventional sauna? A conventional sauna heats the air in the chamber to a very high tempera- ture, which in turn, heats the surface of the skin. You are also forced to inhale super-heated air in a conventional sauna. A FIR Sauna works differently. Neither oxygen molecules nor nitrogen molecules in the air can block FIR wavelengths. The correct FIR wavelengths penetrate up to 2 or 3 inches directly onto our body, safely - just like the warm rays of the sun. This makes us feel comfortably warm without the burning sensation of overly hot convective air in con- ventional saunas, and yet we perspire profusely. Many toxins accumulate in the fatty tissues below the skin where the FIR rays can penetrate and mobilize these toxins for elimination either by sweating, or by urine and bowel elimination.

Health Benefits of our Infrared Saunas are said to include:

1. Better Circulation and Increased Energy
The sauna emits FIR energy that is absorbed by human cells, causing a physical phenomenon called "resonance". Thus the cellular activities are instantly invigorated, resulting in better blood circulation and an overall improved metabolism.

2. Weight Loss
FIR Sauna heat therapy can aid in weight loss by speeding up the metabolic process of vital organs and endocrine glands resulting in substantial caloric loss in a sauna heat session.

3. Cardiovascular Health
The FIR Sauna increases heart rate and blood circulation, crucial to maintaining one's health. The heart rate increases as more blood flow is diverted from the inner organs towards the extremities of the skin, without heightening blood pressure.

4. Speed Recovery from Injuries
For injuries, FIR generated heat stimulates vasodilatation of peripheral blood vessels, bringing oxygen to joints and extremities, speeding the healing process of sprains and strains, thus relieving pain and reducing the time it takes the human body to recover from an injury.

5. Detoxification
The quicker metabolic rate causes extra toxic waste products to be purged from the body through the skin, during perspiration. The skin is often referred to as the 3rd kidney, because it is believed to be responsible for eliminating 30% of the body's waste.

6. Stress Reduction & Relaxation
FIR Sauna heat treatment before a massage also helps prepare a client by creating an overall relaxing effect. It loosens the muscle tissue so the therapist can do a more thorough and effective massage.

7. Skin Beautification
For that sought after healthy glow, FIR Sauna heat therapy allows increased blood circulation to carry great amounts of nutrients to the skin, thus promoting healthy tone and texture. A FIR Sauna heat bath also provides a mild cleansing of the skin.

8. Improved Immune System
By creating an "Artificial Fever", FIR heat has a positive effect on the immune system. Often misunderstood, fever is a natural healing response of the body. The function of the immune system is increased naturally during a fever, while virus and bacterial growth is slowed, weakening its hold. This helps the body ward off invading organisms. A FIR heat treatment in the early stages of a cold or flu has been known to stop the disease before the symptoms occur.

The following is another interesting article on FIR Sauna:

The Healing Power of Light

The Healing Power of Light

The sun doesn’t just provide light for us to see by. That same light becomes energy that living things use to thrive and grow. Humans absorb the sun’s rays through the skin and eyes, and the sun helps stimulate the metabolism.1 Without light, our bodies cannot properly absorb certain nutrients. Suppressed immune function, fatigue, depression, sleep disorders, and other ailments may be other consequences of a lack of sufficient exposure.

Aside from what we can see (visible light), a large portion of the sun’s energy is in the invisible, infrared part of the spectrum. In 1800, English astronomer Sir William Herschel experimented with putting a thermometer at various points in a prismatic spectrum.5 He found that ordinary light transmits some heat, but the effect is even more marked beyond the red end of the spectrum, in the far infrared band.6 Unlike high-frequency ultraviolet rays, which can provoke sunburn or cancerous changes in the skin, far infrared rays do not damage the skin. Far infrared can, therefore, help us derive some of the benefits of sunshine—even when we don’t have regular access to it.

Far infrared and its therapeutic properties have been studied in China and Japan for over 30 years. Researchers have found far infrared can be helpful for enhancing blood circulation, reducing pain, strengthening the cardiovascular system, easing joint stiffness and inflammation, and revitalizing skin cells.

Going way beyond the old heat lamps, there are now products available like infrared saunas, mineral lamps, as well as knee, ankle, and elbow wraps. Many of these products are enhanced with far infrared-emitting elements composed of oxides of zirconium, aluminum, zinc, titanium, and antimony. These products have been undergoing extensive investigation for their ability to retain body heat and emit safe far infrared rays that penetrate deep into joints and surrounding tissues.

Research Confirms Diverse Healing Effects of Far Infrared Light

A growing body of clinical evidence supports the use of far infrared as a non-invasive health-promoting therapy. As far back as 1989, researchers found convincing evidence that when far infrared was applied to local areas or to the entire body, it had a sleep-modulatory effect on patients suffering from insomnia. Additionally, far infrared therapy produced a blood circulation-enhancing effect in human skin. Questionnaires to more than 500 users of far infrared devices revealed that the majority reported an overall improvement in health. The effects appeared to be triggered by far infrared-induced increase in body tissue temperature, as well as enhanced blood circulation in human skin.7

More recent studies in China explored far infrared therapy as a method to improve inadequate blood circulation in patients with vascular access malfunction, a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients. Study subjects treated with far infrared showed measurable blood flow improvement after a single session. Test results were consistent after one year of therapy.

A similar study on laboratory rats found that treatment with far infrared could help reduce the prevalence of ischemia (shortage of the blood supply to an organ) and ischemic diseases.14 In cases of trauma, reconstructive surgery, and diabetes, insufficient microcirculation in skin can lead to acute tissue ischemia. The study found that far infrared therapy produced a significant increase in skin microcirculation in the treated animals.

The benefits of far infrared extend to the cardiovascular system as well. Repeated far infrared therapy has also been shown to improve impaired vascular endothelial function in patients with atherosclerosis and other coronary risk factors.

Bringing Home the Benefits of Far Infrared Light

A Japanese study tested the effects of far infrared rays on chronic pain. The investigators studied far infrared efficacy in patients suffering from fibromyalgia, a condition characterized by sleep disturbances and widespread pain with tenderness in specific areas.17 Thirteen female patients received far infrared therapy once per day for two or five days per week. All of the patients experienced a significant reduction in pain (by about half) after the first session. The effects of treatment became stable after 10 sessions, with participants experiencing up to a 78% reduction in their pain.

Another study backed up these findings, suggesting that an approach of multidisciplinary treatment that included far infrared therapy could be a promising method for treating chronic pain.9

Patients suffering from chronic inflammation have been the subject of a variety of tests utilizing far infrared treatment. A recent study in Taiwan10 found that far infrared radiation exerts a potent anti-inflammatory effect via induction of heme oxygenase-1, an enzyme that confers cellular protection against oxidative stress.18 The possible benefits of far infrared treatment for arthritis, a disorder associated with chronic inflammation, are also the subject of ongoing promising research. A Chinese study found that infrared radiation exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the release of the inflammatory chemokine interleukin-8. Researchers believe a fuller understanding of the process could serve as the basis for improved treatment of rheumatoid arthritis patients.19

Most people are familiar with the infrared heat lamps used in some bathrooms. Far infrared produces heat by similar means, but is more efficient because it penetrates deeper into the skin. It makes sense to target specific areas of the skin and body in order to promote better absorption of far infrared rays. Now, far infrared heating pads are available to provide convenient access to soothing infrared therapy, offering relief in particular to arthritis sufferers and those who battle with other types of chronic pain.

Far infrared heating pads are dramatically different from the heating pads available at the corner drugstore. Traditional heating pads work from the outside in. When you remove a typical heating pad, the therapeutic value quickly goes away. In contrast, far infrared penetrates through the skin and insulating layer of fat, two to three inches into the body, producing a warming effect from the inside out. Far infrared penetrates quicker and provides a faster response in the body, and its warming benefits continue after use.

Why heat? Far infrared raises the body’s surface temperature. Heat helps increase circulation, which may benefit people who suffer from circulatory issues. Infrared heat increases surface blood flow without increasing blood pressure, by promoting dilation of the blood vessels.

A further benefit of heat is improved flexibility. Older individuals in particular can lose elasticity of muscle fibers and connective tissue due to lack of regular exercise. Warming up the muscle and connective tissue can help it become more pliable, restoring its elasticity.

The benefits of infrared heat may be further enhanced by natural jade stone. Jade is the most efficient natural infrared heat absorber of all the semiprecious stones. When run through jade, far infrared passes its heat smoothly to the body. It also creates negative ions, which is a further benefit. Our bodies are positively charged, and introducing the body to a negative ion environment (such as that found at the ocean side) is calming and soothing.

Summary

Living things require sunlight in order to grow and thrive. Far infrared light, the safest segment of energy that comes from the sun, offers a wide array of therapeutic benefits for various health conditions. Studies demonstrate that far infrared helps enhance circulation in the skin, modulate sleep, ease pain, protect against oxidative stress, and relieve inflammation. The benefits of far infrared therapy are enhanced by jade stone, which helps healing heat penetrate deeper while producing soothing negative ions. Heating pads combining far infrared heat with jade stone are now available to provide convenient at-home relief for individuals seeking to increase flexibility, relieve discomfort, boost circulation, and relieve stress and fatigue.

It may surprise many but it is possible to reverse heart disease using diet & exercise. Even if you have had surgery, the guidelines on diet & exercise will help you avoid repeated surgery

If you are interested in this approach take a look at the following book:

Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease
The price for this paperback is US$7.99

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_v...+for+reversing+heart+disease&sprefix=dr.+dean

The book contains simple light exercises & other lifestyle changes. The exercises are more like stretching exercises that anyone can do. It also has many , many heart friendly recipes. It will be brutal for non-vegetaians because all the recipes do NOT contain any meat.

The program in this book has proven to reverse disease.

I got my copy from Amazon but remember seeing a copy sold at MPH at City Square JB.

Another book that may be of interest is:

Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease
Caldwell B. Esselstyn Jr., M.D.
Cover price US$15.95

http://www.amazon.com/Prevent-Rever...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245071073&sr=1-1

This is more of a recipe book & does not contain any exercises. This program is backed up with successful cases.

Some rules:
1. Do not eat meat
2. Do not eat chicken, even white meat
3. Do not eat fish
4. Do not eat any dairy products. That means no skim milk, no nonfat yoghurt, no sherbet, & no cheese at all
5.Do not eat eggs. That includes egg whites & egg even egg substitutes that contain egg whites.
6. Do not use any oil at all. Not even virgin olive oil or canola oil.
7. Use only whole grain products. That means no white flour products. Be sure the ingredient list contains "whole wheat" or "whole grain". Avoid semolina & wheat flour, which are actually white. Use brown rice.
8.Do not drink fruit juice(it is ok to eat fruits or to use small amounts of fruit juice in recipes or to flavour beverages)
9.Do not eat nuts.
10. Do not eat avocados
11. Do not eat cocnut
12. Eat soy prducts cautiously. Many are higly processed & high in fat. Use "light" tofu. Avoid soy cheese, which almost always contains oil & casein.

With so many don'ts even vegetarians like Tony Chat will find this book of interest.

if you have type II diabetes you are likely to have heart disease. Older people are likely to get diabetes because of the amount of carbohydrate(converted to sugars), sugared drinks, & of course age.

The Spore diet is still very asian, using less meat than the americans. I think more damage is caused because of trans fat, fat from butter/margarine, frying, barbecue(bah kwah),.... poor quality food(frozen meats, canned with preservatives).

When I was in hospital my neighbour was a fat indian & vegetarian & it was a repeat visit for him. So even if you are a vegetarian you still have to watch out.

The 2 books i recommended, the dishes are vegetarian & more importantly do not use any oils, no frying, alot of no nos .... You can only get such dishes by preparing them yourself. You are right in that Spore foods are too oily, especially the vegetarian foods

If you are going to follow the program(presribed in the 2 books) you'll have to learn/re-learn how to choose the ingredient & the proper way to prepare the dishes. Its a sacrifice but it'll clear your system & you'll probably live longer

FYI, there is a sanitarium in Malacca which caters to cancer/heart patients. Their program include good lifestyle habits such as meditation & how to prepare healthy dishes. The Malaysians are ahead in this field.

It is not that i cannot get over meat. It is just that they do the fragrance rice and the bean sauce that they pour over it is so yummy.

I am proud that such taste comes from plant source rather than those tasteless meat. Meat is in fact tasteless and the taste are all from plant sources.

Its been 15 months since I was in hospital & I've stopped my medications & going to my cardiologists for many months. I'm using alot of different supplements to get by. I get them from iHerb in the US as the selection in Spore is limited & exp.

Looking at progressing to more strenuous exercise other than just walking.

Haven't started on the recipes recommended in the 2 books, but have made simple changes to what I do/don't eat. No more fizzy drinks or fast foods. Now I have a breakfast of oats with raisins, a daily dose of home cooked vegetables soup. Sandwich using whole wheat bread.

I don't think I can adopt all the recommended dishes but will use some of the dishes.
