In essence if they can't even invade Taiwan, a small Island which is only 180km away from their coastline (similar distance between Muar and Singapore), they certainly not going anywhere near Philippines.

Authorities in Taiwan have said they 'absolutely won't accept' the arbitral tribunal verdict. The leader's office said the verdict 'is not legally binding' and that the award has already severely damaged China's sovereign rights over islands in the South China Sea, in particular Taiping Island. The office added that disputes should be resolved through negotiation. Chang Ling-Chen from Taiwan University dismissed the arbitration process as a farce.



"The verdict from the arbitration tribunal is not legal, it is a political judgement. It is a total farce from the establishment of the tribunal to the verdict. The whole process is illegal. The South China Sea is the heritage from our ancestors and part of our sovereignty. If you don't fight for your core interests, no one will believe in you when it comes to international affairs," Chang said.



The Taiwan Affairs Office says upholding sovereignty and maritime interests in the South China Sea is a common obligation of the Chinese people in Taiwan and there is a responsibility to safeguard their common legacy.

Russian lawmaker: Western powers curbing China's rise

A senior Russian lawmaker has blamed some Western powers for the result of the arbitration case on the South China Sea issue. Leonid Kalashnikov, deputy chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of Russia's lower house, said the regional dispute should be resolved through negotiations.

He said, "I think the arbitration reflects the motivation of Western countries to curb China's rise as a global power. The tribunal has crossed the line to interfere in the dispute under the name of the law."

"It is true that many countries joined the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, but it is also true that the Convention says disputes should be solved through dialogues."

Russian lawmaker: Western powers 'isolating' China

Kalashnikov also said the arbitration is only one step that Western powers take to isolate China. He said they also resort to military and economic means against China's rise in the Asia Pacific region.

He also blamed the US for increasing military presence in the region and trying to isolate China in international trade by signing a trade agreement among twelve countries in the Pacific rim.

The lawmaker also expressed Russia's sympathy to China as Moscow is facing military pressure from NATO and struggling with sanctions imposed by EU and the US.

More than 60 UN Security Council resolutions have been passed against Israel on the Palestinian issue, and the US vetoed everyone of them. 28 have been violated. More than a dozen accords and treaties have been inked out between the parties on the boundaries of the Palestinian state, but none enforced. And the Haredi Jews are still continuing to build settlements on the West Bank even as we speak.
