GMS (NSP) - "MP's job is not really about taking care of the ward"... !

Read the hearts and thoughts of the candidates in your GRC if there's a contest:

PAP candidate 1: I'm one of the PAP elite! I'm made superhuman with ultimate intellect. That's the kind to be PAP ministers. The cockups won't dent my armour cos Singaporeans are dumb.

PAP candidate 2: Praying for opp to siam us and get walkover didn't work. But with PAP candidate 1 and me both being minister heavyweights, we're secure!

PAP candidate 3: Wonder how many more sleeping directorships I'm going to get this term. More $$$ coming to pocket, plus $$$ MP $$$ allowance!

PAP candidate 4: Singaporeans are apathetic, all we have to do is to scare them like shit, demolish opp, say the country will collapse etc. Sure win! Don't forget MSM all 100% cover us!

PAP candidate 5: Wow, thank my lucky stars I got selected. All the lumpa carrying was worth it. $11000 here I come!

Opp candidate 1: I wanna be famous. This doesn't need quality, just noise. See? If lucky can get NCMP and $$$.

Opp candidate 2: I'm loyal to opp candidate 1. Next time then betray him still not too late, but now he's famous.

Opp candidate 3: Fight fight fight!!! F PAP F PAP F PAP!!! Yargh!!! (Tongue sticks out)

Opp candidate 4: I just joined last week. Duo duo zhi jiao.

Opp candidate 5: ......

There is a saying that if you can't keep your own house in order, don't even think about keeping others' in order.

I don't care whether a MP subcontract out the ward's maintenance to a third party but I don't wanna hear the dickhead saying NOT MY BUSINESS HOR!

GMS didn't say it's not his business if he wins. However, he did say that's less important business. Even so, I think he took wrong medication recently. I hope the doctor who prescribed his medication isn't Dr. You Know Who...

It can hardly be called a "system" for simple reason that hierarchy behind the workings of local body politics defies logic and common sense once RCs and PAP appointed mayors are added to the equation.

Being an MP shouldn't be a full time job. The Westminster system was crafted so that MPs outside of cabinet could remain as part of the community they represented. They aren't supposed to be VIPs. They're supposed to be ordinary folk who face the same trials and tribulations as the people they represent. That's what true representation is all about.

The PAP has tweaked the system beyond recognition purely for the purpose of perpetuating their reign. There is no reason why the rest of the country should accept the status quo.

Sam, stop arguing with an idiot.

The real question should be "what is the fucking role of a mayor in Singapore?"

The real question should be "what is the fucking role of a mayor in Singapore?"

The role of a Mayor is similar to that of any pappy politician and that is to talk a whole load of bollocks while doing pretty much bugger all.

It's not about talking like them, it's about winning elections.
You don't have to BE like them.

I think you can catch the gist of what it takes to be a winning politician. Win votes first, other things can talk later.

Talking about Principles will end up in no where. Give what the people want, Do things that improve the chances of winning elections 1st. Not jeopardise it.

The CDC Mayor system is also designed to hold electorate hostage to PAP. The Mayor isn't elected as Mayor. S/he's appointed Mayor after winning an MP seat. Then CDC over and above GRC and SMC gets the government funding for community welfare. With 2 opposition SMC wards, they could ignore opposition demands and needs to pressure them to vote PAP the next time by compensating with CCC Advisor (PAP losing candidate) resources and efforts to woo back voters. If PAP loses a GRC, this system is going into chaos. If PAP loses a few GRCs, this system is going to collapse as logically, Opposition on the winning side should demand for Mayor appointment.

Hey guys, I just want to qualify here that I am not "Green Light" although I have not "balls-ache" for him to re-publish what I put on my FB here. In fact, his effort is (quietly) appreciated.

:B

You got yourself a fan. Good.

Do you guys seriously think PAP pays millions to the MP to work for the people?

This is the setback of one-party ruling.

The ruling party simply thinks they build everything in the country and so they own everything.

They hire the MP to manage the people and get their policy and messages across to the people though they do get some feedback from people in the mean time. But that's not their priorities.

Dear GMS

Look I hope you do not mean that an MP's job does not mean not over seeing the town council. The estate will be run professionally but the MP always keeps oversight because the budget the S n C fee's flow to him.

Voter's are selfish by nature, they want their local interest's taken care of FIRST, They are not electing Captain GMS to be a hero in parliament if he cannot oversee his town council effectively.

No one expects you to collect the rubish, or change every light bulb, but you had better be able to oversee the dam entire operation because when the estate manager fucks up as it does occasionally , you better have an answer or better understand the situation because the buck stops with Captain GMS elected legislative hero.

It liken to the relation between the chairman and the CEO.

A part-time officeholder who sits on and chairs the main board of a company. He is not a full time employee of the company but gives advices (usually on the macro) to the CEO who runs the company.

My question to PAP is very simple. If 4 persons can do the job, why PAP put in 5 persons?

‎@Bryan, tell me how many PAP MPs work full time in taking care of the Town Council? ;)

Goh Meng Seng

Mr. Goh, it does not come out right when you said that a MP's job is not to look after the ward. You should have said "IN ADDITION to looking after the ward, a MP's job is representing his electorate in parliament".

I guess you are helping me to shoot PAP MPs in their own feet. ;)

I have not strayed off tangent. The first and foremost of MP's job in parliament is law making, not running Town Councils. Leave the Town Council management to the estate managers. If taking care of the ward is the utmost important role of the MP, then estate managers will be the best candidate to be MPs. Period.

Goh Meng Seng

Mr. Goh, if you have listened to the reasons residents gave for electing a particular MP, they always invariably say the MP looked after their welfare in the ward, and not because the MP is very eloquent in parliament.

So tell your "customers" what they want or expect to hear.

Secondly, it is not wrong for your "customers" to expect their MP to look after the ward. Sure, leave the day to day mundane tasks to hired hands, but surely the MP must oversee the Town Council in terms of finances, management and feedback from constutuents. You cannot have hired hands with total freedom running the show.

Hey Sam GMS had cut and reproduce your above statements as his own without proper citation @ Bryan Ti's FB! How lame can he get!
