Since I have been called up, here's my 10 riel worth.
I wonder where she gets her information from. $3 to $4? Really? I assume it’s Singapore dollars since this documentary is made primarily for the Singapore audience. Approximately US$2.50 to US$3.30. I can assure you will not buy you even an hour with a Cambodian prostitute.
Olsen seems to be saying underage sex is open and widespread as about as difficult to obtain as aspirin. Nothing is further from the truth. If she wants to highlight the problem, at least do it well-researched and with credibility. I suspect her ‘research’ consists of calling up NGOs in Cambodia specializing in child abuse cases. Listen, these NGOs gets their funding by highlighting and magnifying the few isolated cases. Also, did she mention that for every child abused by a foreigner, there are probably 10 abused by their own kind. Reported only in the local press and totally ignored by the NGOs.
Publicizing the abomination of child abuse for the sake of eradicating it is praise-worthy, noble even, but godammit, at least be objective and accurate. Sensationalizing does nothing for credibility.
