Gan Kim Yong blames sinkies for spike in covid19 cases

By the way. Where is Pinky?

Ho Ching goes through the “steady steps” to contain Covid-19 outbreak
Singapore – The Prime Minister’s wife has compiled notes on the Covid-19 outbreak which, among other things, discuss who is more likely to get infected and why, the possible use of blood plasma from recovered patients and what to do to keep a pandemic at bay.

Ms Ho Ching, who is CEO of Temasek Holdings, shared her thoughts in a Facebook post on Sunday (March 8).

In the post, her lengthiest yet, Ms Ho discussed the susceptibility of the various age groups to infection by Covid-19. “The greatest risks are to adults with underlying chronic conditions such as heart, diabetes, high blood pressure, especially for older folks,” she said. “The largest groups affected and infected are adults between 40 and 70, probably because they are mobile and sociable.”

Ms Ho pointed out that “Covid-19 seems to wear lightly on young children, with those under 10 having mild or no symptoms”.

Blood plasma may be helpful

“Anecdotal evidence suggests that blood plasma from recovered patients may be helpful to support seriously ill patients,” Ms Ho said and added that the National Centre for Infectious Diseases had called on patients who had recovered to donate blood. The plasma is the white or transparent liquid part of the blood without the red blood cells.

Elderly patients could benefit from the antibodies in the plasma and help them “fight the virus while their own disease-fighting system is recovering”, she said.

Meanwhile, there are ongoing drug trials to help with recovery and treatment. “The more we can keep a pandemic at bay, the more time we have to figure out treatments, vaccines and fast detection kits,” she said.

Steady steps to avoid a pandemic

Ms Ho provided a list of “steady steps without going into paralysis or panic”, which could be taken to contain an outbreak.

These include washing hands regularly with soap and water and switching to milder sanitisers if alcohol-based ones are causing skin irritation.

Face masks are also discussed. “Don’t waste surgical masks if we are healthy and well,” she said. “Keep our mask stockpile for our healthcare workers who face patients daily as part of their work.”

Ms Ho also touched on how far individuals should keep from one another during prolonged contact in public places: An arm’s length or, if it is someone from a high infection city, two arm lengths.

She also advised those with travel and contact history to stay home and minimise contact with others.

Also in her post is a video by the World Economic Forum, which highlighted the three reasons why Singapore has managed to contain Covid-19 so far.

She's the most sensible of the lot so far. It's just a Wuhan virus. The Singapore virus is deadlier and detrimental to the well-being of society. Someone has to rise above the thundering storm and see it for what it is. That's the hallmark of a good CEO. Guys, your money is in safe hands.

166 cases out of a population of 5.5 MILLION!

What a storm in a tea cup.

In the meantime, diabetes, which can easily be prevented with diet and exercise, is rampant in the Singapore population and causing amputations, blindness, kidney failure and death in huge numbers!

https://www.healthhub.sg/a-z/diseases-and-conditions/626/diabetes

Diabetes was the fourth and eighth most common condition of polyclinic attendances and hospitalisation respectively in 2014[4]. Life years lost due to mortality and ill-health related to diabetes was the fourth largest among all diseases in 2010[5].

The cost burden from diabetes, including medical expenses and productivity loss, is expected to rise from beyond $940 million in 2014 to $1.8 billion in 2050.
Singapore Diabetes Statistics

The prevalence of diabetes among Singapore residents (Singapore citizens and permanent residents) has increased over the decade. This is largely attributed to our ageing population as the risk of diabetes increases with age.

One in nine Singapore residents aged 18 to 69 years were affected by diabetes in 2010. The prevalence of people with diabetes was similar between the genders.

There are currently many patients in ICU with influenza but they are not considered newsworthy so the media can't be bothered to talk about them.

several health ministers worldwide have vigorously fought against the virus outbreak and got infected themselves. SG Gan is not working hard enough to get infected yet. lazy and incompetent bum.
He is one of those "lead from behind" generals...

They should blame themselves for allowing such activities to proceed in the first place. They are guilty.

Gan Kim Yong is not a leader. He is a follower, an instruction taker, a pig walking on two legs with sleepy look and a smirk after being well fed. When he screw up in HEP-C incident resulted in death, it became a no blame culture to him. When the People Association screwed up for the increase in convit-19 cases, he BLAMED whole Singaporeans.

It is like a General in Situation Room refusing to take the advice of the lieutenant on the ground who fought SARS and fighting the current Wuhan Virus.

SINGAPORE: Many locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Singapore "were the result of the socially irresponsible actions of a few individuals" who continued to attend events and activities despite being unwell, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong on Tuesday (Mar 10).

To curb the spread of the coronavirus in Singapore, members of the public should avoid social contact and see a doctor early if unwell, Mr Gan said at a press conference.

More than a fifth (22 per cent) continued to work or carried on with their daily routine despite being sick, said Mr Gan.

SCIENCE PARK CLUSTER

Of the 14 confirmed cases at Wizlearn Technologies, nine were members of staff. Of these, three employees had continued with their daily activities despite being unwell.

One of the staff members spread the coronavirus to a family contact, who also carried on with daily activities while symptomatic.

This resulted in four additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 who had not worked at Wizlearn Technologies, said the Ministry of Health (MOH).

SAFRA JURONG CLUSTER

Of the cases linked to the private dinner function at SAFRA Jurong, one case who subsequently tested positive attended the function on Feb 15 despite feeling unwell.

This could have resulted in 18 additional confirmed cases among those who attended the dinner.

This COVID-19 cluster is now the largest in Singapore, with 36 patients - many of them seniors - as of Monday.

Authorities announced at the conference that activities for seniors organised by government agencies will be suspended for 14 days from Wednesday.

"Let me just say that the multi-ministry task force is now also assessing the situation locally as well as globally and is studying a broader range of social distancing measures that we might take to help further slow down the spread of the virus," said Mr Gan.

REFRAIN FROM DOCTOR-HOPPING: MOH

MOH also urged members of the public to refrain from doctor-hopping, so the same doctor can follow up with each case, and assess if a case needs to be tested for COVID-19.

Of the 160 cases in Singapore, 24 per cent, or 38 cases, had visited more than one general practitioner (GP) clinic. Of these, eight cases had visited three or more GP clinics.

MOH said that its ability to carry out effective contact tracing requires the cooperation of individuals to provide comprehensive and truthful accounts about their activities when interviewed by its public officers - failing to do so would affect its ability to get in contact with others who may have been infected, delaying MOH's ring-fencing of clusters.

"This socially irresponsible behaviour poses a risk to all of us. The measures we have implemented will only work if individuals cooperate and behave in a socially responsible manner," said Mr Gan.
I thought he would put the blame on PA, sack.the boss of PA, will he?
