The military is a regimented organisation but it is not as if I've lived away from society. In the UK, you join at age 18, you retire at 60 in the same regiment, you are isolated from the community. The way we set up the SAF is quite different. We are a reflection of society. We get all the 18-year-old males coming in, so you know this is a slice of society, this is representative and you learn to talk to different groups of people.

All the SAF Generals do not have any right to comment on the merits of other country's armed forces that have actually FOUGHT in REAL WARS, SAF GENERALS are all paper generals fighting wars only on computer simulations or sand-table tops.

Is there any necessity for combat units in an army to be a cross section representation of society in winning wars? The purpose of military training is to remove all forms of individual thinking and everyone works as ONE UNIT, ONE MIND to search & destroy the enemy whilst minimising casualties on friendlies.

Most if not all 2 Star (BG) serving in the British Army would have seen combat from the Falklands to Iraq and Afghanistan whilst this fellow would have been playing with his toy rifle and ipad on simulation missions in the jungles of Taiwan.
