Dr M: New PM to be sworn in later today
2.50am: Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad says at a press conference that the new prime minister will be sworn in later today.
According to him, the king has summoned the leader of PKR - the party whose logo Harapan used in today’s elections - to the palace following news that the coalition had won a simple majority.
He has also asked the chief secretary to the government to announce today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday) as public holidays, as promised by the coalition prior to the election.
"But there is no holiday for the victors," Mahathir says.
