For decades now, the PAP has been using the SSC to park their SAF senior levels after they retire from the SAF or forced out. This is to give them time to integrate back into the civilian world and find a cushy job. Therefore, the people running SSC really have no professional experience running any sort of sporting organization. Ex generals and colonels do not make good managers, you have to look no further than Desmond Quek in SMRT. Their mistakes and lack of experience translates into all these millions $ fuckups, all at the expense of the taxpayer. But 60% suckers still want to vote the PAP back in.

NZ Rugby Union cancel Maori All Blacks’ match in Singapore

WELLINGTON — The maligned pitch at Singapore’s expensive new National Stadium has forced the cancellation of next month’s Maori All Blacks clash with the invitational Asia-Pacific Barbarians, which could have ramifications for the team’s Super Rugby bid.

The Maori All Blacks were scheduled to play the Tana Umaga-coached side at the stadium, the centrepiece of a US$1 billion (S$1.27 billion) Sports Hub, on Nov 15 after two matches in Japan.

The New Zealand Rugby Union, however, said today (Oct 21) the match had been cancelled due to the poor quality of the pitch that has drawn numerous complaints from sporting teams.

“We feel somewhat let down that this has happened at this late stage,” NZRU general manager planning and operations Nigel Cass said in a statement today.

“However, the safety of our players is paramount and we were unable to get the assurances we needed that the pitch was playable.”

The cancellation of the match could have ramifications for the ambitious plans of the owners of the Asia-Pacific Barbarians, who are one of two bidders for the 18th Super Rugby licence when the competition expands in 2016 and had hoped to base a team out of the Singapore stadium.

Southern hemisphere rugby’s governing body SANZAR had said the Singapore bid and another from Japan had been confirmed as the two finalists for the expanded competition as it looks to grow the game in the potentially lucrative Asian market.

The surface at the Singapore stadium, which was only laid in May and has failed to bed down, was slammed by Italian football champions Juventus in August when they played a friendly against a Singapore side, while it came under heavy criticism last week following Brazil’s 4-0 international friendly victory over Japan.

Asian football officials are also considering moving matches from next month’s Suzuki Cup from the stadium.

A decision on whether the matches for the Nov 22 to Dec 20 Southeast Asian championship will be moved to co-hosts Vietnam or to a smaller venue in Singapore is expected this week.

Out of curiosity, I googled desso grass system and noted that they have 2 projects (in South America & Africa) located near the equator like Sg. However, these 2 projects are just open field, with open ventilation. Their other projects are all in temperate zones where humidity is low.

Good luck to the clever people who manage and operate the stadium. It will take many more months for the grass to grow. Hope the contract requires desso to pay for the losses and not just use the stadium as the r & d site for growing their grass in a covered stadium with high humidity. At the end the system may not work here at all.

A fine example of lacking in ability to know what is important and believing what ever bullshit the consultants have thrown at them. "Grow grass" is easy but it is not the same when you need grass that is soft and hardy, and can survive in a hot humid glass box that traps heat like a greenhouse in the desert. This is the problem when we put someone with no experience nor vision to take charge.
