For the hefty price that sgporeans are paying thru their noses for the pathetic HDB flat, 1 can probably afford a (freehold) mansion / villa in any neighbouring country.

I believe his strategy is to school his kids well, so they've better opportunities to better instituitions & jobs abroad when they come of age. I doubt he'd be keen on coming back, as there's probably nothing in-store for him in 20yrs time, apart from reunion with relatives.
I'm glad Fandi is doing better since he left for Indonesia. Here he was struggling financially and battling a lot of things. In Indonesia he has done better and deserves it.
It must be said though that Fandi's character has become even more resilient after facing failure in Singapore, and that has helped him in Indonesia. If there's only one good thing he has learnt in Singapore- its that failure has taught about future success.
To fend off the "know-it-all" politicians in the FAS? Well, if FAS has another Mah Bow Tan, Fandi will need a very tough, stubborn No.2 so that the assistant has the balls to stand up against people like MBT.
