This is the 144th State Media reporting from Peesai Land:
The falling prices of used cardboards had hit the dealers badly. 1 Kg of cardboard which used to fetch 25 cents a year ago is now worth less than 10 cents.
25% of Peesai Land’s Ah Peks and Ah Mahs depend on picking used cardboards to sell to the dealers for a living.
According to Mdm Bo Lui Jiak (no money to eat), 80, the decreased income means that now she has to work 6 additional hours at night from 8pm to 2am just to buy one packet of Orr Tau Peng (black bean rice).
Her conscientiousness is praised by Jiak Liao Bee Minister Vivi Bala LJ who said that this will enable the government to scale down the allowances for this group of elderly from S$330 to S$290 thereby saving more money to bail out ailing banks overseas.
“After all, they don’t need to eat three meals a day at a restaurant, one packet of black bean rice is more than enough for them.” he said.
Mr Bo Lui Kai (no money to spend), 77, is worried that he may not save enough money to buy himself a decent coffin after he died.
Fortunately for him, Peesai Land’s First Word government has already come up with a solution.
