ok. this F1 thingy..... SGP is counted as World's FIRST nite race which in my point is a GREAT thing for SGP. we all knew abt rd close monthssssss b4 it even start. BUT why are we still driving to work in those area? nuts? much as i guess. YES.

Yes, i know it affect lots of transports companies transport routes ( i m working in one of the Logistic Transport company) , but is something we have 2 deal with, this is gd for the country as a whole.
THE down side of this event? TOO MUCH is wasted on FTs, come on, this is SGP first GP, yet look @ the tickets, is tt price cheap for normal locals like you & me?

come on, u guys in white sure can do more than that, rmemeber where the hell u get ur money from for all ur GIC projects?

First nite race? If these cars were meant to race at night, they'd have headlights built into them (like the LeMan and Daytona series). The reason they're racing at night is so Europe could watch it in the afternoon!

The reason it's held in the city is not because Sg has no proper track - the whole idea is to highlight the cityscape. The old man wanted this years ago when Marina was built. It's not to promote an "auto industry" nor was there ever a culture of motor enthusiasts passing the trend from one generation to the next. Road racing in Singapre ended when the TP acquired Yamaha XS1100s in the late seventies.

But if its for tourism, and an opener for future attractions in Sg, then its a very novel and ingenious way to showcase the city-state to the world. Maybe the MIW did score points in this.

Cheers!

Dude, when it comes to taxpayer money, it must be spent with prudence and caution. As I said, F1 and casino cannot be the main economical policy; it probably can form part of what is the broader goal, but it cannot encompass the entire thing.

I'd rather spend billions on improving the communication cable for telephone lines and for the internet hi-speed broadband network, and know that it will pay for itself through increase in commerce, from both the business sector and the consumer sector.

But throwing billions in what may only return tens of millions is a bad investment decision. And plus its only for a few days. What benefit is that?

After all, Malaysia has consistently lost money in F1 because their returns have not been enough to cover the billions spent in expenses. Do we need to have such a black hole for financial wastage?

This is a typical PAP project, targetting the $$$big bucks & not the masses. Don't thinks there are enough rich boys in this region. Hotels are finding out that they've priced themselves out of the market. Non-F1 tourists are giving Spore a miss.

The only thing most locals get is the inconvenience.

How many tourists can pay or are interested? Hotels not fully occupied as most tourist avoided coming to sg during these period of time. The four hotel that got the contract for providing catering already bleeding badly.

LKY, if he has the guts, can come to the Western Australian District court in Perth and sue me. If he doesn't, then I guess he doesn't have the balls.

These days we only get the FTs who remit their money back and businesses rely heavily on locals to survive.

i reckoned it must be quite a substantial amount before those folks straighten their posture at their seats... :p

looking at all the costs required to prepare and power the night race, the earnings from the F&B industry hasn't even come close to covering half the costs. the added inconveniences to all business operators in the areas affected only made things worse.

they have the cheek to smile & laugh about the positivities in hosting the event, without realising that this nightmare will return to haunt us annually for the next 5yrs.

judging from the situation, it only means that more tax payers $ will be pumped in, with pathetically low & very slow returns.

Singapore gov. pay F1 SG$100 million/year for each race. Pay $100 million still have to face traffic jam. Better use the money to built road.

so where is all the money that going to be generated as claim by the government.
so far 3 out 15 hotels in the areas said only have 90 percent occupancy.

90% occupancy at what rate? Nearly double the usual rates which after deducting the F1 tax still gives those vultures a tidy profit.
