heartlander;679323 His application to study medicine at the National University of Singapore was rejected said:What a coincidence! This Taiwan-kia studied in the same universities and have the same degrees I have.
That photo sure looked old
Despite being borned in Taiwan, he chose to do National Service inSingapore at a time where most foreign students will leave for US before or after A-level.
He was rejected for medicine in NUS because of a standing policy to prevent very outstanding students to do Medicine which started around that time. In fact, the top student in the following year was also rejected for the same reason.
So WP is barred from using the anti-FT trump card for this GE.
Its ironic that he is not good enough to study in NUS, which is not really internationally top, but is good enough for the one off the top five university in the world.
Singapore system seriously dont know how to pick talent
He was not rejected because he was the top student. He did not pass the medical aptitude test. He failed the test. It was the first year that the test was introduced. In the past, entry was based solely on examination results. The Medical aptitude test is now a mainstay of entry to medicine all around the world in most universities. The intention is to weed out those who either don't have the aptitude or EQ to be suitable for medicine.
It is fair to say that the Govt was concerned that about too many top students making it to Medicine. The way that the govt addressed it is by offering scholarships or persuading them during the PSC interviews. Nobody gets rejected for a course if he is a top student. Sounds silly does it not..
Chen is a multi-millionaire and from the very start of his law career, he went straight for the richest pot in law practice - corporate M&A. He holds the record for advising on the richest IPO in history.
He is well connected to the establishment and thus my surprise that he appeared in WP.
do u know for a fact whether chen failed this test?...i ask this Q becoz i recall another top A level student not far after chen's batch was apparently rejected med, parents cld not afford to send him overseas for med n he ended up reading denistry...went on to top all exams, honours n won medals etc, then became dean of dentistry faculty etc...
anyways this so called test assuming it is a sieve is probably a poor tool as i personally know of loads of local med grads after this date who hv poor med EQ n definitely went into med school for $$$ n prestige only...
why so negative abt Chen?...he just appears ultra pragmatic...seen worse fm some self-righteous overpaid pap ministers who probably wld not smell even half of what the tax payer is paying them...let's give this chap a chance...
GMS once declared that taking care of the ward is not the MP's job so U dont need to worry too much about that
If CSM joins the Aljunied team, it can only increase votes for WP. I am getting excited. I live in Aljunied GRC and want to enjoy the privilege of witnessing the collapse of Georgie boy and all his kakis.
