Electricity tariffs will increase by an average of 1.5 per cent from April 1 for the next three months. This means that families living in four-room flats will have to fork out about $1.43 more per month.

This increase is due to rising fuel prices and additional infrastructure investments to meet increasing electricity demand and replace ageing assets, said SP Services in a statement on Thursday.

This means that the households will pay 26.70 cents per kWh from April to June, compared to 26.28 cents per kWh now. The tariff had decreased quarterly for the past three quarters.

The latest tariffs have been approved by electricity industry regulator the Energy Market Authority. SP Services, a subsidiary of Singapore Power, reviews the tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the authority.

The cost of living has gone up substantially since 2000.

Why aren't Sinkies demonstrating at Speaker's Corner against inflation?

I think young sinkees today should move out of their parents home to realize the true cost of living in peesai. Rent an apartment in JB for low cost of utilities.

The problem is young sinkee couples only start to complain when they have to pay the bills, by then it's abit too late (trapped with pigeonhole mortgage). Currently youngsters only pay their Iphone and Galaxy bills.
