Addressing the world’s biggest challenges – whether climate change or pandemics – often require fundamental scientific and engineering innovations.
This is what some have termed “deep tech” – areas such as AI, biotech, materials science, quantum computing, and others. In Singapore, we have made good progress in building up our deep tech ecosystem, with a growing R&D base and a vibrant start-up scene. But talent remains a key constraint for deep tech start-ups globally, including in Singapore.
So I was happy to launch
SGInnovate’s Deep Tech Talent Central last Friday — a new initiative to strengthen talent development in the Deep Tech startup ecosystem here. SGInnovate will be working with a range of industry partners to offer apprenticeships for students, as well as on-the-job training programmes for mid-career individuals.
I look forward to our deep tech ecosystem becoming even more vibrant in the years ahead, and encourage those who are interested to explore opportunities in this exciting sector!
