Earthquake rocks Thailand / Myanmar

If it can happen in Bangkok the same can occur in Singapore and the buildings are not built to be quake resistant.

Your 99 year pigeon hole could end up worthless after only 10 years.

India on standby to assist in Myanmar quake relief, says Prime Minister Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is ready to offer "all possible assistance" to Myanmar and Thailand following the quake.

"Praying for the safety and well-being of everyone. India stands ready to offer all possible assistance," Modi wrote on social media platform X. "In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby."

Mass casualty area"

In Myanmar, information about the extent of the damage caused by the quake is still trickling in.

Roads near the National Museum in Naypyidaw were buckled and broken by the tremors and the route to one of the city's biggest hospitals was jammed with traffic.

The hospital was a "mass casualty area" after the quake, officials said.

An ambulance made its way between vehicles, with a paramedic shouting "cars, move aside so the ambulance can get through", AFP reported.

At the 1,000-bed hospital, the wounded were being treated in the street outside, intravenous drips hanging from their gurneys.

Some writhed in pain, others lay still as relatives sought to comfort them.

Scores of construction workers were feared trapped on Friday beneath a 30-storey building which collapsed in Bangkok, as a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake in neighbouring Myanmar rattled the Thai capital, the strongest tremor in living memory to hit the city of 9 million.

Camera phone footage of the under-construction building in the city’s Chatuchak district shows the crumbling structure spewing dust and debris as the quake hit around 1.40pm local time.

Elsewhere, other buildings swayed while rooftop swimming pools spilled water to the ground floor as panic rippled across the city.

Rescuers rushed to the scene of the collapse in Chatuchak – near Bangkok’s popular JJ market – where 80 workers were unaccounted for out of nearly 400 on-site, according to government channel NBT.
