Dr Chee's wife sewed masks for the family

Can one trust a persons who cannot afford an approved mask for his family?

just curious.
This are sign of a great leader. Someone who are not just HANDS-ON, can also THINK OUT OF THE BOX, very CREATIVE, have provenend CONTINGENCY PLAN and FORESIGHT, PRODUCTIVE in using available time, WALK THE TALK by saving the plaent with recyclable stuff, and THRIFTY who will not raise GST or raid the country reserve. PAP lacked all the above.

Making a mask that offers no protection whatsoever is a sign of extreme stupidity.

At least, he has the initiative to self-create something, so that others can follow, to avoid Singapore from running out of stockpile of mask. SDP led by example, PAP led by complaining just like you.

mask improvisation has becum ridiculous and hilarious. the use of a panty liner offers slightly better protection than a mask made of cloth.

I'm not complaining I'm enlightening. On the other hand the Chees are just perpetrating a myth that masks offer protection when they do nothing of the sort.

Its not the affordability of the masks that is an issue. It's the available or rather the lack of availability tat is an issue.
People like JohnTan got boxes upon boxes of face masks for his family.
And he a fucking small fry wannabe in that world

Exactly.

But many of these educated intelligent logical people think they know better.

Isnt there a term for this? The Dunning Krueger effect.

Dunning Krueger is more of idiots who think they are as smart as phd holders.csj is a PhD holder so I assume he's actually intelligent.

U would think a doctor would have differentiate that.

With the internet available to almost everyone nowadays all she needed to do before she started making those USELESS cloth masks would be to simply search for "are cloth masks effective" and she would have realised in less than 30 seconds that she'd be wasting her time.

Not everyone can be a Google genius.

However I am willing to give u concession on one factor.......most sinkies are descendants of coolies and farmers no matter how intelligent or educated it's just a educated farmer......there's a core of incurable stupidity in them case in point paper generals and paper scholars.

can learn from village desis in india. they use cloths for washable feminine napkins. but now there's a product addressing the need.

Aren't these more environmentally damaging and more unhygienic? Think of the amount of soap n water n electricity to heat the water n effort to wash it? And too much detergent causes skin irritation. And hard to dry during monsoon season.

And the disposable ones are recycled by the indons For their 'fix'. And if they dont get their 'fix', imagine the increase in the crime rate.

Teens in Indonesia turn to sanitary pads to get high

JAKARTA (THE JAKARTA POST/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - As bizarre as it sounds, young Indonesians have found another affordable way to get tipsy - boiling sanitary pads and drinking the water.
Police in Jakarta and Bekasi, West Java, as well as Kudus, Central Java, have arrested several teenagers who were caught while experimenting with unusual methods of getting intoxicated. Most used menstrual pads to make the formula.
Senior Commander Suprinarto, head of the Central Java chapter of the National Narcotics Agency, said it was the chlorine in the boiled mixture that created a feeling of "flying" and hallucinations similar to the sensation experienced when taking certain drugs.
"The used pads they took from the trash were put in boiling water. After it cooled down, they drank it together," he said to news website Kompas.com.
Mr Jimy Ginting, an advocate for safe drinking, said it was not a new phenomenon.
In 2016, groups of teenagers in Belitung, Bangka Belitung Islands, and Karawang, West Java, did the same.
"I don't know who started it all, but I knew it started around two years ago. There is no law against it so far. There is no law against these kids using a mixture of mosquito repellent and (cold syrup) to get drunk," Mr Jimy told The Jakarta Post on Saturday (Nov 10).

over time there’s less trash in landfills. washable pads use water and soap but water is naturally recyclable with runoffs to sea then evaporate to becum clouds then rain while soap or detergent can now be fully made of natural organic eco-friendly materials.

Natural detergents are not powderful enough lah. Gave up on the green shit. Useless ans and expensive. And blood is very hard to wash off. Run offs pollute waterways etc. N in singkieland case more stress on water purification plants. N look at those pads..looks quite thick etc. Must be uncomfortable, but tat only a chick would know. But commonsense tells me it's like a diaper. N tampons n pads are much smaller in size. So smaller foot print. N more hygienic. After all it's just paper. For blood stains. Much cheaper to get new clothing etc than to wash m soak with bleach etc..surely u have been in enough gang fights to know. No one will bother to replace blood stain fabrics. So why have washable liners?

And singkieland waste disposal is good bcos incinerator are used..not like dumb ass ang mor cuntries which use land fills which is a wastage of land in itself.

incinerator spews smoke and pollutants into the environment. sg is already very polluted with unhealthy pollutants in the air, especially on west and north sides of island.

The incinerators are monitored and heat is controlled to minimize gases n other pollutants. Land fields has its disadvantages too. Pollution of ground water , methane etc. However the methane could be extracted for power generation.
The Effects of Landfills on the Environment
•••
Updated April 19, 2018
By John Newton
In the decades before government regulations were put in place for landfills, anything and everything could be buried beneath the ground at an old dump site, some of which may still be releasing toxic chemicals or other hazardous materials into the Earth. As buried organic materials decompose, they release methane, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming.
TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read)
Landfills and dumps buried over often become suburban home sites in later years, unbeknownst to people who may live on them. Landfills have a distinctive effect on air pollution, nature, land and humans. Soil in the area may be saturated with chemicals or hazardous substances
Air Pollution
About two-thirds of landfill waste contains biodegradable organic matter from households, business and industry. As this material decomposes, it releases methane gas. As a potent greenhouse gas, methane traps up to 20 times more heat in the atmosphere compared with carbon dioxide the EPA states. In the U.K., much of that methane from landfill sites produce electricity, with carbon dioxide as a by-product, which has a weaker global warming effect. Oftentimes the air surrounding landfill sites smells unpleasant, due to the decaying organic waste.
Biodiversity Impacts
According to the Romanian Ministry of Environment and Forests, the development of a landfill site means the loss of approximately 30 to 300 species per hectare. Changes also occur in local species, with some mammals and birds being replaced by species that feed on refuse, such as rats and crows. Vegetation changes also occur, regardless of the duration of the landfill site, as some plant species are replaced by others.
Groundwater Pollution
As rain falls on landfill sites, organic and inorganic constituents dissolve, forming highly toxic chemicals leaching into groundwater. Water that rinses through these chemicals collects at the base of the landfill and usually contains high levels of toxic metals, ammonia, toxic organic compounds and pathogens. This can result in serious contamination of the local groundwater. Even more dangers, this mixture usually creates a high biological oxygen demand, meaning it can quickly de-oxygenate water. If or when these noxious chemicals reach rivers or lakes, it could result in the death of aquatic life.
Soil Fertility Effects
The mixture of toxic substances and decaying organic material can impact the soil quality of the areas surrounding a landfill site. This can compound the effects on biodiversity as local vegetation may cease to grow and be permanently altered.
Visual and Health Impacts
Landfill sites are often very unpopular with residents, often called “Not in My Back Yard” or NIMBYs. Landfill sites impact the natural landscape: they stink, they are trashy looking and a become a bacteria breeding ground. The smell, traffic, noise and vermin that accompany landfills can lower house prices. Because of the increase in vermin surrounding landfills, disease becomes an issue with other adverse health effects, such as birth defects, cancer and respiratory illnesses also being linked with exposure to landfill sites.
