最近，随着美国国内新冠病毒疫情迅速爆发，美国总统特朗普除了在新闻发布会上大放厥词外，也难得的对疫情防控作出了一些贡献：派遣美国海军的两艘医院船前往东西海岸。这两艘医院船分别搭载有1000张床位，可以缓解当地医疗机构的压力。
按理说这本来是好事，但因为众所周知的原因，“美国”、“医院船”和“1000张床位”这些关键词结合起来后，产生的化学反应也是十分奇妙的。很快，美国海军的医院船队数量就被一些不明真相或是别有用心的人迅速扩充：从2艘扩充至10艘，又很快增加至35艘的庞大船队。
这35艘医院船，个个都有着1000张床位，那岂不是等于说一夜之间多出来35火神山吗？比起中国的火神山雷神山和方舱医院，肯定是厉害多了，看来美国战胜新冠病毒已经指日可待……
显然，这些内容全都是编造的，而且编造者无疑缺乏对医院船这一特种船只最基本的常识。
医院船，就是一艘海上的浮动医院。一般而言，医院船都归属某一国家的政府部门或海军所有，少数归属民间或国际组织拥有。医院船看起来似乎不起眼，但一艘医院船的造价丝毫不低于一艘现代化的大型护卫舰，因此世界上只有极少数的国家拥有专用的医院船。
与“罗纳德·里根”号航母并行的“仁慈”号医院船
目前，美国海军拥有世界上最大的两艘仁慈级医院船“仁慈”与“舒适”号。这两艘医院船是由圣克莱门托级油轮改造而来，排水量达到6万5千吨，是美国海军除了航空母舰外最大的船只。但即使强大如美国海军，也仅仅拥有这两艘大型医院船。
