Do something about smoking in casino

IT IS delightful news that Singapore has opened its first casino. As a proud Singaporean, I am thrilled by the reported success of the casino's grand opening. However, it has been brought to my attention and concern that our prized accomplishment has been marred by inconsiderate patrons.
First, it is unfair that Singaporeans must pay a $100 levy to enter and see inside, even if they do not gamble. Foreign workers can enjoy the facilities without paying a cent. And for those who paid, the experience was not what they expected.
It is unfair that Singaporeans must pay such a hefty sum and be crammed with others who have not paid a cent. Cheap food, free drinks and comfortable rest areas are meant for gambling patrons, but most of those in the huge crowd were not genuine patrons.
It is more heart-wrenching that drinks were spilt on the carpets and cigarette butts were strewn everywhere, burning holes in the new carpets. My question is, why is smoking allowed in the air-conditioned building when Singapore is so strict on smoking elsewhere?

Casino entry shouldn't be free for foreign students, workers

<!-- by line --><!-- end by line -->

WHAT struck me on Monday when I visited the casino at Resorts World Sentosa was the long queue of foreigners waiting to enter.
One could tell that most were work permit holders and foreigners studying here: Bangladeshis, Indians and Chinese formed the overwhelming majority.
Tourists were in the minority. Inside the casino, one could not miss these work permit workers and students. They were everywhere - mingling with the crowd, sitting at the gaming tables and trying their hand at the different games and the slot machines.
If the Government is concerned about the harmful effects that gambling may have on Singaporeans by levying the $100 entrance fee, should it not also worry about work permit holders and foreign students gambling in the casinos?
Blue-collar workers toil under the sun to earn their limited keep, only to wager away their wages at the gaming tables. Parents spend a princely sum to send their precious children here to study, only for them to waste time in the casinos.
The Government should reconsider allowing work permit holders and foreign students studying here to enter the casino free.
After all, they are not the target group of patrons. Work permit holders and students from abroad studying here may be foreigners but they are not tourists.

Just wondering. For practical reasons, how do the securities know if these foreigners are students and work permit workers - if they show only their passports?

The next thing some Sporeans will be demanding is to have a section cordoned off solely for Singaporeans and another section for foreign students and work permit workers and yet another section for genuine tourists.

But seriously, the Genting cannot stop them if these Banglas and PRC students want to spend their hardearned money or parent's money at the casino. Only problem is the police will have a hard time if these people were to turn to crime on the mainland to make up for their loses.

But aren't Banglas Muslims? Isn't it sinful for muslims to gamble? Perhaps the only conscience is to frighten with their religious beliefs.

This Lee Hwa chick damn naive, I'm expecting the tiongs to spit on the carpets as well.

name me which countries in the world don't allowed smoking in the casino? all i knew is singapore the only country must pay a $100 levy, sad.

Because $100 is not enough to segregate the scruff from the refine !

Because $100 is not enough to segregate the scruff from the refine !

In this case it's totally different.

The scruff aka bangalas and assorted low class workers get in free while the sinkees whom should at least be higher classed than these fts have to pay 100.

If we are going to restrict all sorts of people, then might as well not open casinoes. Which business in their right sense of mind will restrict their clientele.

That is why casinoes have big and small limit tables, cause evryone rich or small needs to contribute to its profitability.

Stupid writers of these letters to the forums. Whats next? Banglas not allowed ? Seperate trains for banglas.? Wish they will just listen to themselves.

Disallowing entry to certain classes of foreigners so that Singaporeans are not the only ones subjected to $100 levy does NOT make it fair.
