When the traffic light at Lau Pa Sat showed the green man, STOMPer Jia Jun thought it was safe to cross the road. Little did he know that the green arrow was also flashing at the same time, giving the go-ahead for vehicles. According to the STOMPer, a van missed him by just two feet.
STOMPer Jia Jun said in an email to us today (May 15):
"I was waiting for the traffic light to turn green before crossing the road over to Lau Pa Sat.
"When the traffic light turned green, I made my first step. As I looked to the left, a van travelling at high speed did not stop. I missed the van by only 2 feet away. If I had taken larger steps, I would have been knocked down by the van.
"At first I was angry with the van for failing to stop, but upon taking a closer look and to my horror, it wasn't the van but the traffic light's fault.
"The traffic light was flashing a green man and a green light at the same time!
"I stood at the traffic light area and waited for the next green man to appear to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me. And again, the same thing happened and the pedestrains too had to rush across the road because the cars thought they had the right of way.
"Can LTA explain what is happening?"
