Here's me prepping for the next movie in the Marvel series: Dishwasherman. (If Superman can wear his underwear on the outside, I don't see why I can't wear my cape in front.)
But seriously, whether it's clearing the table or bringing down the trash or washing the dishes, it's important that leaders work together - get into the trenches, so to speak - with everyone in the team. In the SDP and now at O&T, I've always believed in leading from the front, by example.

Singapore — On Tuesday (Dec 2), longtime opposition leader and this year, restauranteur Chee Soon Juan posted a photo of himself carrying a tray of plates and bowls, joking that his superhero name is “Dishwasherman”.
In late June, Dr Chee, the secretary-general of the Singapore Democratic Party, fulfilled a lifelong dream of opening Orange & Teal, a café located at Rochester Mall.
And while he’s found joy with getting to host Singaporeans from all walks of life, he’s also expressed a newfound admiration for those in the food and beverage industry who have faced many challenges during the pandemic.

But he took the opportunity to underline an important point.
“But seriously, whether it’s clearing the table or bringing down the trash or washing the dishes, it’s important that leaders work together – get into the trenches, so to speak – with everyone in the team. In the SDP and now at O&T, I’ve always believed in leading from the front, by example,” he wrote.
He ended the post by adding that Orange & Teal is hiring at the moment.
“But no matter how much I do, we need to hire more staff at the cafe. So if you’re looking for a job, email us at [email protected]. Here’s looking to a happier 2022!”
Dr Chee first announced that he and his wife, Huang Chi-Mei, were opening Orange & Teal earlier this year.
“It’s been a long-term dream of ours to have a place where Singaporeans come together to not just have a great meal or have that heart warming cuppa, but a place where we get together with our loved ones and friends and get to know each other all over again. A place where intelligent discussion, even impassioned debate, takes place. A place where the conversation’s even better,” he wrote in a June 21 Facebook post.
Shortly afterwards, he wrote in another post that he had a “newfound respect for F&B operators,” calling working in the industry “a gruelling endeavour with little margin for error.”
Dr Chee wrote that he and the café staff had been discussing operations, and he is realising how difficult the business is, with high rental rates adding to the mix.
“It’s no wonder that the casualty rate in the industry is so high,” he added.

Professor Tambyah, an infectious diseases expert, is the party's chairman and Dr Chee remains secretary-general, said a post on the SDP Facebook page on Monday (Jan 10).
Dr Chee has been SDP chief since 1993 while Prof Tambyah has been the party chair since 2017.
There are two new faces in the Central Executive Committee (CEC), which was elected at a party conference held on Sunday.
They are Ms Min Cheong-Subramaniam, who was a candidate for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC in the 2020 General Election, and Mr Naresh Subramaniam, a media professional.
"Both are prominent members of the party's youth wing, the Young Democrats," said the SDP in an email to CNA on Tuesday.
The other members of SDP's CEC are Mr Bryan Lim Boon Heng, Mr Jufri Salim, Ms Surayah Akbar, Mr Matthew Tan Chin Guan, Mr Ang Seow Peng, Mr Sng Choon Guan, Mr Ashukumar Veerappan and Dr James Gomez.
Mr John Tan, a former vice chairman, is absent from the line-up, as is Dr Wong Souk Yee, who was the party's assistant treasurer.
The party said office bearers will be appointed at the next CEC meeting, and CEC members may also be co-opted then. It did not specify when the meeting would be held.
SDP contested three Group Representation Constituencies and two Single Member Constituencies in the 2020 General Election, but failed to win any seats in Parliament.

It’s the start of a new year and Orange & Teal is now 6 months old. I want to thank all of you who’ve come to the café to help us make it this far. It’s been an exciting start – not without its bumps – and we look forward to the next 6 months.
In a way, O&T is a miniature version of my vision for Singapore – a place where intelligence, grace and compassion flourish.
I want to create a space where intelligent conversation and even intense debates take place, where thinkers come to exercise their minds and writers run wild with imagination. (J K Rowling, TS Elliot and Ernest Hemingway did much of their writing in cafes. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Orange & Teal could be the nest for the next great S’porean writer?)
I want to foster a community where grace and culture soothe our tired souls; create a playground where our artists and musicians come to comfort and inspire us.
I want to build a home where compassion becomes second nature to us, a place where we extend a hand to others and lift them up.
This is what I’ve been working for all my life to build in Singapore, and now I get a chance to demonstrate it in a small but real way at this little corner at Rochester Mall.
I invite you to share this vision with me, my friends. Come by and have a meal or a cup of coffee and, in the process, help me build that vision of an intelligent, cultured and compassionate Singapore.

CSJ had breakfast at BB.
Had breakfast at BB yesterday and met with several residents. CNY shopping has begun in earnest and good to see our elderly folks up and about, not cooped up at home.
