Not bad for a small fry. Assistant Director can get $1.7 million. Imagine the potential for higher ups?
Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau CPIB somemore! What a disgrace!
If he's a new hire for CPIB, then I can understand. But this chap worked in CPIB for 15 years. His integrity should have been tested and verified over the years. So how did CPIB miss this crook in their midst after so many years? There will always be bad apples in any organisation. This case in now way affects the excellent standing of the Singapore Govt.
The fact that he has been identified and charged accordingly speaks for itself. In a corrupt country, he would get away with such crimes and the general public would be none the wiser.
I would like to congratulate PM Lee for running an honest and transparent system without fear or favour.

Is this indicative of bigger problems within CPIB, and PMO?
Circumstances change and someone who was once a pillar of integrity can go off the rails for a variety of reasons... failed relationships, health issues and so on.
It's one person and he is being dealt with. No system guarantees that everyone is perfect. What is far more important is the fact that once his misdeeds came to light, he was dealt with accordingly.
The way the Singapore government deals with corruption within its own ranks reinforces my faith in the system. Well done Mr Lee. I am proud of you and I'm sure the majority of Singaporeans share my view.
It means 2 things, either the superiors are ineffective in character assessment, or that CPIB actually allows flawed personnel to work in this important organization.Very true and insightful of you, bro! During his 15 year career, he must have received promotions, accolades and who knows what other awards including performance bonuses. Very serious lapses and all these went undetected until it's too late. So obviously, some heads must roll to account for these lapses. His superiors must be squirming in their high chairs now. Tip of the iceberg perhaps. $1.7 million and counting.
Persons of integrity don't go off the cliff easily. They have a strong internal value system that remains intact in the toughest time. This guy is getting a decent income, stable job and medical benefits. But he chose to gamble and steal money to feed his addiction. How can CPIB senior officers miss the signs of such weak characters?Circumstances change and someone who was once a pillar of integrity can go off the rails for a variety of reasons... failed relationships, health issues and so on.

Either CPIB has no ability to gauge a person's character ( which is a major part of their daily work), or CPIB condones such weak characters in their organization.
