CPIB assistant director charged with fraud, S$1.7m

Not bad for a small fry. Assistant Director can get $1.7 million. Imagine the potential for higher ups?

You work in the ParLeement your salary inclusive corruption money.

e.g. Salary $2million CM $1.8million total $3.8million,

whereas Civil serpent are paid salary only excluding CM therefore this officer not happy
paid himself $1.7million.

Just for discussions sake,...
however awaiting the vigalante's to investigate,

say,
civil serpent plays accounts, procedures,...gets away with techiclity (as in the Brompton Bicycle case)
gets caught (this case),..

but if civil serpent / politician influences contracts to relatives, friends,
then there is NO document trail to proof "corruption", Yes ?

So the point I'm making is,..IF GOH MENG SENG, RAVI PHIELOMON (IF HE'S SMART ENUFF), LEONG SZE HIAN,..AND TAN KUM LIAN MAKES RESEARCH ON THE FAMILY TREES OF THE CIVIL SERPENTS,....SUCH MAY REVEAL PLENTY MORE QUESTIONABLE COMMERCIAL GAINS,...

SO, Is this alternate route still considered corruption ?

Remember Wang Kai Yuen ? about 24-plus directorships, in addition to his MP salary
What happened to the following,..

Eugene ### ?
Lim Chee Onn ?
Yeo Cheow Tong ?
..etc.,....

In fact, Sinkie gov. is too rich that many opportunists join the rank to dip into the coffer.
Some legally get paid, some alibaba.
In the end, the burden goes with sweet and blood of common Sinkies.

There will always be bad apples in any organisation. This case in now way affects the excellent standing of the Singapore Govt.

The fact that he has been identified and charged accordingly speaks for itself. In a corrupt country, he would get away with such crimes and the general public would be none the wiser.

I would like to congratulate PM Lee for running an honest and transparent system without fear or favour.
If he's a new hire for CPIB, then I can understand. But this chap worked in CPIB for 15 years. His integrity should have been tested and verified over the years. So how did CPIB miss this crook in their midst after so many years?

Is this indicative of bigger problems within CPIB, and PMO?

Circumstances change and someone who was once a pillar of integrity can go off the rails for a variety of reasons... failed relationships, health issues and so on.

It's one person and he is being dealt with. No system guarantees that everyone is perfect. What is far more important is the fact that once his misdeeds came to light, he was dealt with accordingly.

The way the Singapore government deals with corruption within its own ranks reinforces my faith in the system. Well done Mr Lee. I am proud of you and I'm sure the majority of Singaporeans share my view.

Very true and insightful of you, bro!:D During his 15 year career, he must have received promotions, accolades and who knows what other awards including performance bonuses. Very serious lapses and all these went undetected until it's too late. So obviously, some heads must roll to account for these lapses. His superiors must be squirming in their high chairs now.:D Tip of the iceberg perhaps. $1.7 million and counting.

I agreed on the point of change person under various circumstance.
However, we do not like the way the law enforcement and the punishment given out differently.

In the past, all those dealings and doings were not known to most thinkers because there were few media outlets under control.
Now, with slightest mistake, the news could leak into spider web, and no one can contain or control over the news unless they shut down Internet totally.

If people start seeing fairness in handling cases and limiting government power, Pappies will get the respect back.

It means 2 things, either the superiors are ineffective in character assessment, or that CPIB actually allows flawed personnel to work in this important organization.

This is a sick country ruled by sick leaders.
When the pandora's box is opened,it will expose the corruption rotten to the core in this sick country.

Persons of integrity don't go off the cliff easily. They have a strong internal value system that remains intact in the toughest time. This guy is getting a decent income, stable job and medical benefits. But he chose to gamble and steal money to feed his addiction. How can CPIB senior officers miss the signs of such weak characters?

Either CPIB has no ability to gauge a person's character ( which is a major part of their daily work), or CPIB condones such weak characters in their organization.

This is karma, for spending time 'fixing' the oppositions on INTEGRITY..CPIB the cornerstone on Integrity, is rotten within...this highlight the fact that many if these people are too well paid, & fatten, to such an extent, they become, slow & lazy & careless...

more to come...:p

If not nbg will be in jail now

How much illicit money was gambled away at the 2 casinos, not just by this man but by others?

Those who have a love affair with fruit machines and table games will stop at very little to fuel their addiction.
