Trump rails against ‘medical deep state’ after Pfizer vaccine news comes after Election Day

But company insists the election didn’t affect timing of the promising data.

President Trump is lashing out at the Food and Drug Administration following a disclosure Monday that an experimental coronavirus vaccine from pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is more than 90 percent effective, convinced the timing — six days after Election Day — proves the “medical deep state” deliberately tried to sabotage his electoral prospects by delaying the results.

Shortly after Trump heard the news Monday, he demanded Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar “get to the bottom” of what happened with Pfizer, according to a senior White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the president’s actions.
A few hours later, the issue was front and center at a meeting of the White House coronavirus task force when FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn briefed members about the vaccine data.

The meeting agenda that day had been drafted so Hahn could walk members through the vaccine approval process, a senior administration official said. Hahn said the timing was the sole result of independent decisions made by Pfizer on collecting and reviewing the information, according to three senior administration officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal affairs.
Azar, Hahn’s boss, pointedly contradicted Hahn in front of Vice President Pence, asserting that the FDA’s actions had in fact contributed to a delay in Pfizer’s announcement. He also asked questions that some officials thought suggested Azar believed Pfizer’s timing was affected by political motivations.

Based on its initial data, pharmaceutical company Pfizer said Nov. 9 that its experimental vaccine was more than 90 percent effective in preventing covid-19. (Reuters)
Trump weighed in Monday night, tweeting without evidence that the FDA and Pfizer intentionally withheld the news until after the election.

“As I have long said, @Pfizer and the others would only announce a Vaccine after the Election, because they didn’t have the courage to do it before. Likewise, the @US_FDA should have announced it earlier, not for political purposes, but for saving lives!” Trump wrote. “The @US_FDA and the Democrats didn’t want to have me get a Vaccine WIN, prior to the election, so instead it came out five days later — As I’ve said all along!”
Trump’s anger at the FDA raises fresh questions about whether Hahn will hang on to his job until Jan. 20 — when Trump leaves office — in an administration intent on purging officials deemed insufficiently loyal. Trump called Hahn shortly before he tweeted Monday and was “screaming at him” about the Pfizer announcement, in the words of one senior administration official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive matters. The accusations against the FDA may further fuel baseless conspiracy theories that the election was stolen from Trump.
The FDA and HHS declined to comment.

Although there is no evidence that Pfizer withheld data or did not report it as soon as it was available, a White House official said without evidence that Pfizer “either knew the data and sat on it, or intentionally did not review it as originally planned, in order to push it beyond the election for political purposes.” The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
But Pfizer did not have access to the data until the Sunday after the election and could not have known the results before then. Neither the trial participants nor the company knew who was getting the vaccine, and the company did not know how many cases of covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, there were on Election Day. An independent monitoring committee analyzed the data Sunday and informed Pfizer chief executive Albert Bourla, who learned of the results at 2 p.m. that day. The company announced the news the next morning.
An examination of decisions made by Pfizer and the FDA in recent months shows that while their actions inevitably affected the timing of the clinical trial results, there is no proof decisions were made with the intent of imperiling Trump’s reelection prospects.

Rather, the drug company and regulatory agency were reacting to an unprecedented and evolving situation with the goal of dramatically compressing the timeline for vaccine development — it routinely stretches for years — into 10 months without sacrificing safety, according to numerous individuals who were involved in the process or had knowledge of it.

They were also responding to public pressure from scientists who repeatedly voiced concerns that Trump would try to force a vaccine decision before Election Day. On several occasions, Trump said he hoped a vaccine would be ready before Nov. 3. Several Trump administration officials said they were frustrated that some of the scientists expressing concerns included experts advising Trump’s Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.
“What’s going on is they are trying to say there was collusion between FDA and Pfizer to delay this analysis of the trial data so that it wouldn’t benefit Trump in the election, and there’s no basis to that,” said a senior administration official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he did not have permission to speak about the issue.
Bourla said Election Day did not factor into the company’s decisions.

So why was Trump so angry that Pfizer only announced its results after election day? Trump wanted vaccines or not? Or just for the votes?

Donald Trump has accused Pfizer and Moderna of working to stop his re-election by delaying their Covid vaccines.
The outgoing president again made the false claim he had “won” the election as he gave a White House press conference on lowering drug prices.

President Trump lashed out anew at the Food and Drug Administration in a Friday morning tweet, attacking the agency’s commissioner, Dr. Stephen M. Hahn, by name for not approving a Covid-19 vaccine faster.
Continuing his practice of publicly upbraiding subordinates with whom he is displeased, Mr. Trump told Dr. Hahn to “stop playing games and start saving lives!!!” He called the F.D.A. “a big, old, slow turtle,” flush with funds but mired in bureaucracy.
The F.D.A. has been walking a thin line, trying to fast-track vaccine approval without undercutting public confidence in the process. Dr. Hahn has repeatedly said regulators will not approve a vaccine that has not been proven safe and effective.
The president’s tirade came the morning after an outside advisory panel of experts voted overwhelmingly to recommend that F.D.A. regulators approve a vaccine developed by Pfizer and its German partner, BioNTech, for emergency use.

The regulators are expected to issue the authorization as early as Friday, and in a statement on Friday said it put the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and those involved with Operation Warp Speed on notice “so they can execute their plans for timely vaccine distribution.”
Mr. Trump has said little about the pandemic in recent weeks, as cases and deaths have been mounting across the country. On Thursday, 2,923 people in the United States died from the virus, according to a Times database. More than 3,000 deaths were reported on Wednesday.

The president has repeatedly accused the F.D.A. and the vaccine-makers themselves of deliberately slowing the approval process in order to harm him politically. Allies of Dr. Hahn have been on tenterhooks for weeks, expecting him to be fired any day.
The president wrote that with “my pushing,” the administration had shaved years off the development of vaccines. “Get the dam vaccines out NOW, Dr. Hahn,” he wrote, misspelling the expletive.

One minute after the president’s tweet posted, Alex M. Azar, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, posted a “BREAKING” message on his official Twitter account, saying the F.D.A. had informed Pfizer that it was moving “rapidly” toward authorizing its vaccine. He was echoing a statement from Dr. Hahn and Dr. Peter Marks, the agency’s top vaccine regulator that officials say was posted before the president’s tweet.

Donald Trump screwed up the entire pandemic response. Only after Biden came in did they start to import huge amounts of vaccines and roll them out aggressively.

To say that it is all up to state level is disingenuous. There must be leadership from the WH. Trump provided none. Biden provided leadership in spades.

Conservative states see the worst outbreaks with highest case rates and fatalities because they refused to follow Biden after Biden took power. By contrast, Democratic states were led well by Biden
there’s very little import if not none of approved vaccines. only 3 vaccines have been approved for emergency use in u.s.: pfizer, moderna, j&j. they are all made and distributed in the u.s.. stockpiles used for overseas contracts (e.g. israel, sg) are also made in the u.s. biontech in order to sell its vaccine in the u.s. has to team up with pfizer to obtain cdc and fda pre-approval to go thru’ the extensive and exhaustive phases of trials plus months of data to be collected.

the pharma cartel in u.s. is so dominant and protective that hardly any foreign vaccines have made any toehold.

moreover, the trump admin fast tracked those 3 vaccines plus novavax which is nearing fda approval after over a year of trials. contracts were already signed with previous admin for 600m doses middle of last year, about 200m each from mrna providers and 100m each from j&j and novavax. mass deliveries started end of last year, well into and after the erection into march 2021, thus the biden admin benefitted from the previous admin’s efforts in securing 600m doses after getting erected. it’s mainly about timing and coincidences.

to credit biden in the pandamic fight with a solid vaccine strategy is disingenous and ignorant. distribution and availability of vaccines q1 of 2021 was a frustrating mess. i had to wait until april to get my 1st mrna shot, and the state covid website was and is still a freaking mess. nobody could get an appointment on the state website, and over a million signatures were collected simultaneously to recall newsom.

i was lucky the county acted independently of the state and secured vaccines for county residents disregarding and sidestepping state control and stinginess of supply. county created its own registration website, and residents finally could make appointments and obtain availability of vaccines in april. even my healthcare provider (biggest in cal) struggled to get vaccines from the state. only in may did they inform me that mrna vaccine appointments were available but by then i was already fully vaccinated by the county. federal, state, county, private healthcare provider were fighting for control and supply. such a fucking mess.

you have to be on the ground to understand the real situation and mess that this (current) admin and its state cronies such as cal have created. tens of thousands died in late waves during the early months of 2021 for lack of vaccines and effective therapeutics and treatments. never forget that. it’s only now that we reach 54% partial vaccinations and (only) 46% full vaccinations. we’re not even there yet with 69% herd immunity. and the delta variant is now 20% of all positive cases and will be dominant in no time. another surge after the july 4th holiday cannot be ruled out.

Another bully US failed attempt to hurt China... they have derailed and heading to Xing Jiang where the untapped resources are there....

Wait China lease out lands to hungry small land countries like leichenstain, Belgium, Austria, Monroco etc for 150 years to extend their lands in Xin Jiang will piss off US and EU ..... New Europe V2.021

These countries can use RMB to trade as main currency... Singapore can ask China to lease a land too, move away from Muslim neighbours......

After Taiwan back to China, they sub- lease Taiwan to Singapore and that is twin city..
Taiwan and singapore belongs to orang asli.

The makers of vaccines against TB, rubella, diphtheria, etc, are also fabulously rich. This sickness in society will never go away and it extends far, far beyond Covid. Its the nature of the human condition. We all need vaccines. Want to rebel? Go ahead and die early then.

For me I'd rather get vaccinated and live a long enough life to get wealthy myself.

Las Vegas shooting failed to convince hotels, f&b and entertainment centers to install scanners NFC technology....

Donald Trump could have pre-ordered the vaccines. With the might of the US, he could have easily jumped queue, even ahead of Israel.

Instead, Israel got the vacc first. Their implementation was top notch.

Don't blame the late approval dates. The US could have secured the vaccines even more quickly than it did, but Trump didn't care and bother because he knew it would benefit Biden. So he was derelict in his duties and left Biden to do it all.

hogwash. no potus “fast track” on this planet can speed up 3 phases of clinical trials back to back to back involving over 6.9k animals and 36.9k human subjects of various ages, ethnicities, conditions within 6.9 months. potus fast track only opens up cdc and fda bottlenecks and reduces red tape with other non-covid drugs and vaccines already in queue. it also speeds up fed funding, purchase orders, and contract commitments to get hundreds of million doses prepared for manufacturing. just the latter alone plus getting supply chain, logistics, distribution channels, documentation and labelling in order during fda review and subsequent (and expected) greenlight will require at least 6.9 weeks to get substantial amount of needles to patients. the fact that the whole shbang happened in 9 months for not 1 but 2 vaccines was a miracle, a 1st in history. you have no clue what you’re talking about.

Most here don't even understand the basics of how politics works in the US so you can forgive them for having zero insight into the intricacies of an approval process.

i haven’t forgiven newsom and his state health cronies for withholding hundreds of thousands of mrna vaccines earmarked for healthcare provider kaiser which is private. i relied on kaiser for the vaccine shots and they never came. kaiser signed a private deal with moderna ahead of approval, and the state held back shipments from moderna distributors to kaiser hospitals and clinics for patients and members, and instead repurposed them for illegals and “less privileged or minority groups” as a political ploy. the only doses allowed to pass thru’ to kaiser before mid-may this year were for frontline nurses, doctors, and medical staff. the county which acquired its own pfizer stockpile required kaiser members to provide kaiser id, policy number, and other personal details in order to get vaccinated. the county then get reimbursements from kaiser. and what did the new potus do? he allowed dem controlled state shenanigan to continue. no wonder he will never achieve 69% full vaccination target by july 4th.

Courier Service Delays Deliveries To Bukit Merah To Reduce Risk Of Covid-19 Infection
mustsharenews.com

Visiting areas with active Covid-19 clusters can understandably be a pretty worrying experience.
Yet essential services are still required in these areas so residents can go about their daily lives.
Recently, however, a netizen took to Facebook to voice her displeasure about a delivery company that refused to deliver to her address in Bukit Merah.

The company has since clarified that they had merely postponed the delivery by a week in light of Bukit Merah being a high-risk area.

Bukit Merah resident complains about courier not delivering to area

On Friday (25 Jun), Ms Colleen took to Facebook to lament about a courier company’s refusal to deliver goods to an address in Bukit Merah.

The Bukit Merah estate has seen a number of clusters emerge over recent weeks.
Ms Colleen shared that her Shopee purchase was to be delivered by Roadbull on 23 Jul.

However, that morning, she received a message indicating a “failed delivery”.
What’s perhaps stranger is the fact that nobody had attempted to call her or ring her doorbell.
Ms Colleen thus emailed the courier to probe further. In response, the delivery company informed her that they were unable to make the delivery as the area is “on high risk due to covid”.

They also apologised for the inconvenience and advised her to contact Shopee instead.
Despite the clarification, Ms Colleen remains upset as she reportedly wasn’t informed of the restrictions prior to her purchase.

Company says Bukit Merah deliveries resume on 28 Jun

In response to Shin Min Daily News’ queries, Roadbull clarified that they had refused the delivery due to ongoing mandatory testing programmes at the location.
xcourier-delays-bukit-merah-6.jpg.pagespeed.ic.A3tReSoGDJ.jpg

They added that customers may opt for delivery to another address in the meantime.
The courier company said they’ve suspended deliveries to the Bukit Merah area since 21 Jun.
However, deliveries to the area have since resumed following a 7-day ‘cooling period’.
They will reportedly proceed to deliver the affected packages within 2 days of the resumption.
Indeed, on 28 Jun, Ms Colleen provided an update confirming that she had received her parcel.

Each company has its own policy

It’s only understandable for Ms Colleen to feel frustrated at not being able to receive her parcel on time due to the company’s policies.
However, each company has its own set of safety protocols, and in Roadbull’s case, visiting such ‘high-risk’ places is probably, as the term defines it, too risky.

KNN when there were dengue clusters the leeleeverlee company was not afraid  KNN
