This is what happened.

1) JYM Pillay, Singapore's long term stalwart was removed in putsch in MAS by Koh Beng Seng as MD. Koh Beng Seng head grew big and found his place. HPL began soft launch but did not extend it to shareholders. They complained. Koh Beng Seng approached GCT on an official basis. GCT had not choice but to launch and investigation and the Lee clan was confronted. Investigation revealed that Lee Clan and those with Lee & Lee were not only in the soft launch but given pick of the best units. Worse still, LHL and wife got more than double the discount. Old man's brother was a Director in HPL.

2) A Parlimentary Inquiry was held and the infamous "2 eggs in the Kway Teow" argument was used by old man. Dhanabalan gave his all time supreme performance of painting old man as God and should not be doubted.

3) Koh Beng Seng was asked to leave the Govt despite having years before retirement and went to work in Bangkok. It was a lesson to all civil servants not to get too smart.

4) JYM Pillay was recalled from exile in London as High Commissioner and given SGX Chairmanship.

Interesting points observed:

1. GCT didnt show courage in handling LKY and LHL because what transpired appeared dubious.
2. If LKY was given two eggs in his ckt which he didnt pay for, as an office holder, was he obliged to declare it? If he kept quiet and he received the extra two eggs, it's tantamount to receiving a bribe.
3. Shd OBS be charged for attempted bribery for giving two eggs to a poltical office holder?
4. If LKY and LHL were offered a discount which no one else gets, isnt that dubious?

wahhh..stewardess! it's a glamourous job!! dont know when you were in the airline job but you must have gone through quite a thorough and humiliating interview. my friend went for an SIA stewardess selection interview and told me that she felt quite humiliated.

NTUC is a joke and scam. When I was stewardess, there was no union for us to join except I think NTUC General Branch. Nobody bothered and I couldn't be bothered too. But the Sg-based pilots had ALPA-S union and they insisted not affiliating to NTUC. There was even one incidence when LKY came down to bang table and order deporting a Malaysian pilot at SQ over union arguments. But that's real union. Fight all to the way to LKY. NTUC always say tripartite. Where got? The head is always government minister siding the big corporations against small fry employees like us. NTUC never fight for employees. When business bad, they always suggest cut pay and cut CPF for junior employees. But the CEO, senior management and minister pays keep going up, they say they're talents, otherwise we got no jobs.

How come you never join JAL union ha?

It is about time that the CPIB be brought under the office of an Ombudsman instead of being under the PMO.
This will make it more independent of any undue influence. It will not be "beholden" to anyone.

5 Tan Kia Gan, then Minister for National Development, was investigated in August 1966 for attempting to help his close businessman friend Lim Tjin Hauw and his son William Lim to clinch the sale of Boeing aircraft to Malaysian Airways. He also acted as an intermediary for his brother-in-law in the sale of a tin mine to Lim. For this, he was given 70,000 shares worth $1 each. As the witnesses did not want to implicate him, Tan Kia Gan was administratively stripped of all his public appointments by the Government.

6 Teh Cheang Wan, then Minister for National Development, was investigated in 1986 for accepting 2 bribes totalling $1 million from Hock Tat Development Pte Ltd and Ho Yeow Koon of Keck Seng Pte Ltd in 1981 and 1982 respectively. Hock Tat Development had paid Teh a gratification of $500,000 after he helped the company to retain a piece of land that was earmarked for acquisition by the Government. Ho Yeow Koon had also given a gratification of $500,000 to Teh for helping to buy over a piece of State land for private development. Teh committed suicide before he could be formally charged in court. He maintained till the end that he was innocent.

Some time in 1977 Tan Kia Gan who was then staying in a 3 room HDB lobbied and got a job as HR officer in Chartered Industries of Singapore........... who was the door opener as Chairman CIS personally arranged that job...
