....they might as well pack up and leave for Malaysia as they will have no place in Singapore society. Life will only get a lot more difficult for them....If the Malays have to form their own party and make their own rules, you can be rest assured the 25% Malay vote will no longer be there for the Chinese community... Without the Malay vote it is unlikely the opposition party can win Aljunied GRC unless WP wins at least 7 out of 10 Chinese votes. You think this is possible? -
I just took snippets from your reply, hope you don't mind. And please bear in mind i am really asking out of my own ignorance. But the questions I pose is sincere and I hope we can have some reasonable discussion on this.
a) Is it not true that more and more malays are choosing to move across the causeway? This is already happening and UNDER PAP rule.
b) Malays need their own party period. Stop whoring that 25% vote to the highest bidder, Its bad for the community. How does hiding in the mosque and taking PHD in arabic/islamic studies advance the economic well being of the malays? I chose CIMB as an example because its an amazing achievement. And if thats possible, why not more? Once again, if Datuk Seri Nazir Razak can do it, why not other malays?
c) Whether it is PAP or WP forming the rules, its someone else forming the rules FOR you. And it may not be rules you like. Hence, you got to come out of the mosque and start exerting that 25% vote. Start demanding for changes, reasonable posts in government and civil service. You may not get it this election but you have to start asking for things. Why is it unreasonable for a malay to be Chief of Army? Think about it. Because they might betray Singapore to other countries like Malaysia and Indonesia? If that perception stays (and it will stay regardless of PAP dominance or not), the Malay community in Singapore will forever be marginalised and you will never get anywhere in Singapore EXCEPT more handouts (big if - see point D). Nobody is going to change that perception for you. You got to go out there and do it.
d) And the cold reality is that the malay vote will be less and less significant as more pinoy, ah neh, ah tiong, myanmese, viets etc come in. And in time to come, the handouts get less and less. Classic examples are the red indians of america and the aborigines in australia. Do they get handouts? Yes. Do they play a significant part in the economy? Absolutely not. hence, are you aiming to be the orang asli equivalent in Singapore?
Anyway, i ranted a bit too long but i hope it makes sense.
