Church leader's massive pay: Blame the congregation

I REFER to yesterday's report, "$500,000 pay for New Creation Church leader".
As a Christian now for 30 years, I cannot help but feel embarrassed by such a report.

However, I do not put the blame for such obscene pay cheques on the elite group of church leaders; rather, I would lay it on the congregation.

During the Chinese New Year period, my family and I visited one of the classier church buildings and attended a service. We were taken aback when a special offering, referred to as a hongbao for Jesus, took place. We were surprised to see many in the congregation willingly coming down the aisles to drop their red packets of money in the baskets held by the pastors and leaders. In return for giving, devotees received a spiritual blessing of prayer.

I was amazed at the congregation's willingness to give without really knowing where all the money was going to. (There was no mention of the purpose of the collection other than giving it to Jesus.)

I find it difficult to endorse your point of view.

I do agree that there is Judgment and there is discernment. But discernment stops short of judging.

It is an utterly christian teaching to shut one from making judgements on others even though the Bible is replete with numerous incidents where judgments were made. From the Old to the New Testament, many, including entire clans were judged not only by God by by HIS men.

How do you reconcile this with what you have just said? Let me clarify sunccinctly for you - there is nothing wrong with making judgements on another's character or actions. It is practice that is know to be true as it is Biblical.

Don't confuse between the Final Judgement with common judgements. The church elders have done everything they can to prevent their followers from making accusations against their leaders with 'truths' that they are infallible to downright accusing you of being blasphemous.

You have done well in their eyes.

Joseph Prince and Kong Hee do bear good fruits. The number of christians whose lives have been changed for the better is a testimony to the fruits they bore.

The messages they gave have brought peace and hope to many. I known of a few.

The worse dictators. The worse amongst men. Indeed. it is true that the devil himself has done good for many.

There is a lot of play on the human psyche in the teachings of 'pay for salvation' and the reward system that such teaching extoll even to appease those who are sole driven by greed into thinking that they are indeed doing good. Even if it happens once a week.

That is the extent of their teachings. You allow for grays to appear where only white and black exists. If you are not for HIM then you are against HIM. It is as simple as that.

On the flip side, I had also known of one whose life has been torn apart because of the constant demand for tithes and the peer group pressure he faced from his cell group. Another who felt that she is dealing with a bunch of hypocrites because the phone calls she got are not out of genuine concern but out of cell group metrics.

It must be remembered that no matter how great we are, we are still human. And if we focus on wealth, wealth in time will consume us and make us their servant. And we in turn will make others our servants. This is a danger i believe is possible.

And it is equally possible that by writing all these, i turn judgmental. Which is why i must watch after myself too.

God's true word will never harm those that seek HIM with a pure heart for salvation. The teachings are so blatantly askew with respect to true Biblical teachings that it is impossible to not see that solmething is amiss in all the gratuituos feel good ceremonies that they hold.

For God's sake! Even their Holy Days are not Biblical! What more do you want? Do you want Satan himself or God HIMSELF to come on earth to tell you that you should have known all of these? Won't it be too late for you then because you will likely have passed on when th time comes.

SO what do you do for now? Well, seek God. He doesn't live in a church. He is everywhere you want Him, when you need Him. There is no church great enough for him.

The day a church comes along where they spend the bare minimum for themselves plus a little for savings and the rest for building more churches to bring more into God's pathway then the better that church is.

What I find strange and curious is that quite alot of the people who flock to NCC and CHC are educated, savvy and sophisticated. They are hardly the country bumkin lot that you see in the bible belt area of the States.

Somehow what Prince and Kong Hee preach seems to resonate with this lot of people who are not stupid and naive or you would think are not stupid or naive.

When I mentioned the bible belt, I mentioned "uneducated" but I did not mention "poor". New Age churches thrive on hardworking and driven people. They target this lot - nice clothes, nice and expensive musical instruments, nice locations, everything new.

Have to disagree on the educated lot attending NCC and CHC. Most of them are hardworking got degrees not from the mainstream institutions. There are exceptions of course. By the way, there are lots of PHDs - mostly from paper mills in their congregation.

Believe me they are not supid but definately hardworking.

Hillsong in Australia is one of the best known. They target the rich but not necessarily the educated. There is a difference and it is not fine line that separates the 2.

I do concede one thing though, they all speak well.
