Singapore Army gets new chief on March 21

THE Singapore Army will get a new chief on March 21.

The new Chief of Army will be Brigadier-General (BG) Perry Lim Cheng Yeow, 41, who will be replacing Major-General Ravinder Singh, 49, who has been the army chief since 2009.

Maj-Gen Singh will be leaving the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) after he relinquishes his appointment, said the Defence Ministry in a statement on Thursday. It added that the change of command is part of the continuing process of leadership renewal in the SAF.

BG Lim, currently the Chief of Staff (General Staff), joined the SAF in December 1990. He was awarded the President's and SAF Overseas scholarships a year later.

He was also the chairman of last year's National Day Parade executive committee.

Implemented by LKY. Deeply entrenched now. Those in position to change wont dare to. No reason to risk their career. Look at the number of president scholars who did not make it to Perm Sec. Majority ended their career as director or senior director.

To be a good military person, no-one gives a shit whether you went to Oxford,Cambridge, MIT, won scholarships for this and that etc...

Just having first hand military experience of REAL conflict plus Sandhurst on your resumè is more noteworthy than having all these paper qualifications.

Given a choice between Perry Lim and Nicholas Carter, I know who I would want to lead me into war.

MINDEF simply don't have a clue.

unfortunately, LKY's law says generals can't be older than 55. So Carter is out.
