@eatshitndie do you have any updates of the state of this legalisation? Are there any adverse effect on the society in California so far? What bad things you foresee will happen in California due to this?

hey froggy. the new law is in effect 1st day of 2018, and anyone who is 21 and older can buy up to 1 ounce or 28.5 grams of marijuana from a licensed store for personal use. before this, medicinal marijuana required a user to get a prescription from a "doctor" to buy it from a licensed store. if you buy 1 ounce, you can keep it, use it or give it away. if you give it away, you can buy the next ounce on the same day. at any one time you can carry up to 1 ounce. you can also grow your own, and it's up to 6 plants at any one time although i prefer that it's up to 6.9. it's as simple as that.

however, there are issues which remain unresolved. stores selling "recreational" marijuana have to be licensed by the city they operate in and the county and state. thus, there are state and local taxes on the sales of marijuana. the state takes a 15% cut or tax on the distributors while counties and cities can tax at any rate over and on top of the state tax. the influx of new income to stores, suppliers and distributors and tax money going to state, counties, and cities have to be deposited in banks for safekeeping and security and whatever associated with large stashes of cash. banks are being regulated by the federal gov and they don't want to handle this money as federal laws still treat marijuana as an illegal drug. thus, the state is thinking of creating a separate (state) banking system to handle this money. another issue is dui. local enforcement agencies are now treating smoking or ingesting marijuana and going "high" as an offense if you smoke/ingest marijuana and drive at the same time. dui is now not only confined to drinking and driving but also smoking/injesting and driving. since december 31st 2017 there are road signs and billboards warning motorist not to get high and drive at the same time (slogan is "get high get dui"). i posted about this in one low profile thread on sbf as a comment.

there are more younger morons now including tech workers smoking marijuana. because of curiosity and because it's hip to do so. and they have money to flaunt. if you visit you'll smell it everywhere. it used to be civil when smokers would comply with the 25-feet rule (no smoking indoors, near doors or pubic areas), but now pot smokers are very garang and lawless. they think the new law allows them to smoke anywhere, which is not true. the problem i see is that enforcement is lagging, and the 1-ounce rule has been broken over and over again at clubs and joints where both marijuana and designer drugs are being trafficked and pushed. drug traffickers, crime syndicates and gangs are using marijuana as enticement or "gateway" drugs to attract youths to hardcore drugs. they would push marijuana to these kids for free, and start encouraging them to try more potent drugs such as fentanyl. heroine and cocaine are no longer the rage. they are out there to recruit new batches of addicts. the police and drug enforcement agency have lost control and power. the problem with this kind of "altruistic" legislation is that good intentions give way to sophisticated and organized criminal operations. traditional drug cartels in latin america and asia will not sit idly by and let their market share of "old" drugs be decimated by new drugs. they also want to be part of the distribution and sales of pot and the larger opioid market as a follow-up of marijuana adoption. ciggy companies want to be involved too as they see signs of a resurgence of smoking, especially among the young, in general. among the young, the prevailing propaganda is smoking pot is hip and healthy, and that to me is utter bullshit.

One stoner friend of mine went to Cali and lighted up. But he didn't know the medical grade marijuana was so strong. Ended up having a bad trip and passed out on a stranger's couch.

could have been arse-raped if he's male and dicks up her rectum, cheebye and mouth if she's female. and the next morning she wakes up to soreness without a clue who ravaged her.

Thank you @eatshitndie for such an in-depth post. I’m glad I know all this now from a person on the ground.

If this is getting more and more out of hand and control any chance of one day reversing this piece of legislation?

No way will the new legislation be reversed. The war on drugs was nothing more than an excuse to eliminate nigger and spic gangs. And it hasn't worked at all. there's more money in regulation.

Cali will one day become as liberal as western Europe regarding drug and alcohol use. The only thing in their way are the fucking niggers fucking up everything good

In time to come, the various states will become dependent on marijuana taxes as a source of revenue, further entrenching the commercialization of it.

Viewed in another light, this is also a big strike against the underground economy. Billions that went to drug lords (and war on drugs) will now flow into the real economy.

As countries struggle to generate growth, legitimizing the underground economy unlocks a new source of revenue and growth. Legislation to control accompanying moral hazards can be effective to a large enough extent that the economic gains outweigh the social harm to a minority.

Too organic. We prefer more synthetic stuffs like made in China meth peddled in nightspots here. This payback for the opium war you see, the British druglords must suffer.

Long ago in the 1970's, I heard from some Americans that it was no longer safe to walk in the streets of New York after dark, probably due to drug addicts, etc. I wonder how the real New York is today.

Then I read that Switzerland practically gave up on tackling the drug problem; they had a park somewhere that they allowed those addicts to smoke and die away. Just kilometers away, was their central financial district. How's that now?

it’s now no longer safe for even cops to go out in the day. so many cases of cops being deliberately run over by criminals in broad daylight. the last link on sf case is most brazen in broad daylight. suspect drove over both officer and accomplice twice, 1st in reverse pinning them underneath then 2nd time going forward. officer survives and is discharged from hospital while accomplice is still in hospital.

Canadians are awaiting July 1st this year when recreational pot is legal. Right now, only medical grade is sold to approved patients. I expect the prices to drop when recreational pot is available. Especially the edibles (for those who dislike smoking), There are no social problems from marijuana (unlike alcohol), iand the intention of legalizing it is to remove the business from the underworld, BUT that is going to be difficult, Because they've been doing this business longer than the legal blokes, and will be able to reduce the price and avoind taxes and other cost-adding crap.

Singapore should consider allowing medical grade, Firstly, it will cut medication costs, secondly, it will add to the economic growth of the nation, as everything else is stagnant.

Cheers!

The pharmaceutical industry is still telling us marijuana is not scientifically proven and need more studies. This is really evil.

They are protecting their market. It is only because marijuana was demonised by the FBI during the 30s, that pot has received such a notorious reputation. It is harmless and actually humans have found uses for the hemp plant that makes Cannabis Sativa one of the earliest cultivated plants by humans. Chinese have used it since pre-history and this has spread thourghout Central Asia and further to South Asia where India picked it up. It even spread to Egypt and Middle Eastern civilisations before the birth of Christ. Because of USA and its prohibition, society has lost tremendous amount of knowledge on the use of hemp. Medical is only one area, its can also be used for papermaking, fabircs, rope, sails, and get this - biodegradable plastics. And it is easily grown. A good solution to current pollution and destruction of our planet. Ganja is God's gift to people. The medial professhion should approach this with an open mind. They have been convinced that marijuana has no medical benefit(s).There are currently ongoing clinical trials where marigjuana is used to treat Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, seizures, pain (where opioids are used). Best thing is - nobody has ever died from overdose, it is impossible for it to happen.

while i'm fine with its thc, cbc, and cbg compounds which are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant (cbc and cbg are also anti-biotic and anti-fungal), the smoking aspect is what is causing angst among the healthcare, medical and business communities. i prefer that recreational users not smoke but just ingest it directly through their crybaby entitled mouths. that way they can spare majority of residents the ill effects of 2nd hand smoke in pubic, common, and retail areas. ciggy smoking in pubic areas and parks is already bad enough, but new users of marijuana (mostly young and first time smokers) have no regards and consideration about smoking laws and very restrictive rules on where to smoke. their common excuse is that it's their first time smoking and they don't know the rules. bunch of baloney. the other deadly problem that is cropping up is the rise of dui after the law is passed. drinking and driving has killed many on the roads in the new year, but more so getting high and driving is adding to the tragedy.
