Bukit Batok by-election to be held on May 7

Chee Soon Juan ??? shared Singapore Democratic Party (SDP)'s live video.

30 April 2016
..

[Admin]: "We feel very good at this point, so we will continue with our house visit this afternoon. We don't have a rally this evening, we will only do one tomorrow at Bukit Gombak stadium tomorrow [Sunday] evening. Our message continues to be to stay positive, not to get into the kind of m&d slinging politics we all expected from the PAP side. We want to focus on us getting our message across that right from day one, we are poised to take care of the town council to make sure that our work goes on without any glitches, and thereafter to be able to maintain and put some of these upgrading projects. They are already in the pipeline, so we make sure they will come into completion. We will also be talking about some of the social programmes we want for Bukit Batok residents, and to make sure that these residents' quality of life, they are enhanced, and to make sure that they really understand what it means for an MP to look after their interests. Right now, they haven't experienced anything different yet..."

Interesting media interview with Dr Chee today during his walkabout in Bukit Batok.

Dr Tambyah's response to PM Lee's criticisms of SDP today.

Wow, PAP have began their personal attacks and character assassination of Dr Chee in their MSM propaganda machinery.

A beautiful picture of LHL and Murali on top, and a bad picture of Dr Chee below, is this call "fair and unbias" coverage???

Looks like the PAP controlled MSM are beginning their attack to fix Dr Chee, the so called "fair and unbias" election coverage has gone out the window.

This is more what you would expect of pappy. Perhaps they are getting worried. ;)

When you read the msm propaganda like this, which is to be expected and historically biased towards the opposition members, I hope voters can read them with continent of salt.

PM Lee has called Chee a hypocrite and unrepentant of his past mistakes. Chee dare to sue PM Lee?

all he need is to win BB and that is enough, just like his mentor CST. old fart called him a failure against a president scholar shorty wong, yet shorty lost.

You mean biased against ?

Remind us again about how Chee got the SDP CEC to kick Chiam out of the SDP. Some of the younger voters may be unaware of Chee's dark past.

Yes, our msm is always biased against the opposition members. Low Thia Kiang has long discounted our msm and urge voters not to be fooled by what our msm reported.

mah not wong. both shorties.

CST's O Level results were compared unfavourably with Shorty Mah's (who was not a president's scholar) by Oldfart. ;)

PT said it well. Let 's not engage in character assassination in political campaign but let's focus on the issues and debate. What can M do differently to restore the trust and confidence of the BB residents who have been let down by their ex-MP because of his personal indiscretion? The obvious answer is dedication, commitment and accountability to the residents because that is what David Ong has failed to live up to. By thus far, M is not sure what and why he should do things differently. M is not even aware that he needs to earn back the trust and confidence of the BB residents in the PAP. As far as he is concerned, it is an election and he has been chosen among his team to stand for the election, period.

Napolean n any good general would hv slaughter a dissenting soldier for disobeying order. Look at old fart n things he did to founding members toh n lim. Any diff? Exactly the same.

PAP only know how to play dirty politics to win elections, from bribing voters with public funded carrots to character assassination and smearing opposition candidates through their propaganda MSM machinery. PAP did these dirty politics in the last GE on Dr Chee and WP's AHPETC, and now PAP are using the same old dirty tactics again to fix Dr Chee in this BE.

PAP are really despicable, they have reduced Sinkie elections into vote buying and bribing the voters with public funded carrots, mudslinging and smearing opposition candidates, and using their control of MSM to fix the opposition candidates with very PAP bias coverage. No wonder the Singapore's MSM is ranked 154th in the world.

PAP dirty politics is terrible for Sinkies and have very negative effects on our country, it has created a fearful, brainwashed and heavily controlled conformist society that badly curtails freedom, critical thinking, creativity and innovation. Dr Chee is right, Singapore needs change.

On integrity & hypocrisy & setting bad examples at Bukit Batok By-election

onlinecitizen on April 30, 2016

By Jentrified Citizen

It is really shameful to see our Prime Minister and senior ministers behave in such a despicable manner during the Bukit Batok by-election. Ministers Grace Fu and Halimah Yacob continued the PAP’s bashing of Dr Chee Soon Juan last night at the Bukit Batok rally. They threw various slurs at him including mocking him for being “unemployed” and for being rude to former PM Goh Chok Tong, something that happened eons ago.

It is very ironic and hypocritical that we have highly educated Singaporeans buying into the character assassination of Chee based on what the PAP-govt have claimed and what the local MSM have reported including over some flimsy allegations. Yet these same people have never spoken up against the numerous unethical actions committed by Lee Kuan Yew and the PAP against the citizens (including likening us to dogs) and against hundreds of innocents who were jailed for opposing them.

So it is really laughable to hear PAP supporters and some Ministers bitch about petty little things like Chee being rude to Goh ONCE when they have never objected to the numerous reprehensible injustices committed by the PAP leaders against the people of Singapore.

The top leader of this country PM Lee Hsien Loong has also joined in the demonising of Dr Chee. During his support visit to Bukit Batok the morning after the BE rally he disparaged Chee (which was unsurprising). What was shocking was he actually called Chee crazy when there is no truth to it!

Quote LHL: “So, when I read the Wanbao interview with Dr Chee I was saddened but not surprised. Because he is not sorry for anything he did. He is not – he is proud of his record, he is proud of his craziness streak. And yet when he comes today, he presents himself as a changed man.”

Bad habits die hard indeed. LKY used to excel in sticking labels on people to stigmatise them and now Lee junior is continuing with this tradition. In 1988, ex-President of Singapore Devan Nair wrote in his letter to LKY :”Your genius for sticking labels on people does Singapore no good. The truth of things often requires the removal of the labels on them. Nowhere more so than in the brand of politics you have developed. Thanks to you, Singapore has rapidly become a vivid illustration of the political adage: ‘Give a dog a bad name and hang it’.”

As a citizen of this country, I hope my fellowmen and women realise that such leaders who indulge in ad hominem attacks set a deplorable example for their country and even more so for their supporters. When they behave deplorably in an adversarial manner in attacking their critics it sets the tone for their supporters.

This may explain why the PAP supporters have also adopted such an unpleasant adversarial behaviour online. It is evident online in the increasingly hostile way in which they defend the PAP and in the way they attack in droves in an arrogant and patronising manner to mock those who dare criticise the ruling party.

The growing nastiness of some of the PAP is troubling. This is becoming a nation increasingly divided. We do not need such hostility to worsen the cracks. Where is the civility and graciousness that was preached by the government? What will happen to the unity and harmony of Singaporeans if such hostile behaviour continues to be encouraged by the ruling party?

PM Lee also called Chee hypocritical.

There are no greater hypocrites than the PM and his PAP gang in the way they constantly preach integrity while abusing their power and indulging in actions that smack of no integrity.

These politicians draw the highest pay in the world for a government while mocking Chee for being “unemployed” (in reality he has been working hard by supporting his family through his writings despite being demonised by the PAP); they play the race card in politics and at BB by-election while claiming that Singapore is not ready for an Indian PM; they use all sorts of dirty tactics to destroy their most vocal critics and the opposition leaders; they go against our Constitution in oppressing the people’s right to free speech; they have jailed hundreds of innocents without fair trial; and they shamelessly milk the state-funded island-wide People’s Association resources to promote PAP and their leaders.

These are but some examples in a long list of their litany of sins.

In closing, allow me to quote PM Lee who said it is”completely wrong and bad” in reference to those calling on Chinese voters to pick a candidate on racial lines. I agree. It is indeed “completely wrong and bad” to pick any political candidate – including the next Prime Minister – based on race. It is also “completely wrong and bad” to call an opponent crazy when he is not.

Hypocrisy and Integrity? You, PAP leaders, are not worthy to even mention these words.

Dear SBF brothers, please share the following video with your friends who are uncles and aunties in Bukit Batok. Thanks :)

RCs in Bukit Batok SMC putting up and taking down PAP candidate’s banner

By Terry Xu on April 30, 2016

The Online Citizen (TOC) was alerted by one reader on 27 April about individuals putting the banner for the PAP candidate, Mr Murali Pillai in the Bukit Batok SMC by-election, on the banner rack of the Resident Committee (RC) Zone 6 at Blk 168 Bukit Batok West Ave 8.

On 28 April, questions were sent to the People's Association (PA) that governs the RC about whether is there any rules that allow the use of RC facilities for partisan purpose.

No replies have been received from PA so far.

However, when TOC visited the site again last night, that particular banner was removed from the rack.

In GE2015, M was chosen to stand in Aljunied GRC. In BE2016, M is chosen to stand in BB SMC. He is the chosen one, he goes wherever he is chosen. :D

Wow, just read on MSM that LHL now says it's all right to attack the character of MPs and public office holders. Then why the hell is LHL complaining about some SDP speakers criticizing David Ong, is LHL being a hypocrite??? Double standards for PAP???

PM responds to SDP, says character is at heart of those seeking public office

Updated: 10:10 AM, May 1, 2016

Interesting comments to LHL in the comments section:

Simon Lim ·

I agree with the Prime Minister that the character of a candidate is very important, however, character alone is not enough. Apart from character, another very important and reasonable expectation of the people is that their MPs must have the courage and willingness to speak up for the people in Parliament, bring their concerns into Parliament effectively and forcefully and not be afraid to ask hard questions of the government, e.g., the more and more often breakdowns of the MRT and with increased severity that affected hundreds of thousands of commutetd etc. Singaporeans don't see pap mps playing such roles effectively and meaningfully in Parliament. After all, who wants to break their own lucrative ricebowls? They shy away from asking real hard questions of the government and hold her to true accountability. Worse still, some didn't even speak for the people in Parliament but continued collecting their MP allowance. So, despite having less than stellar character records, this role has to go to the second choice candidate who is the opposition candidate. Are we really so dumb that we again need very expensive generals and scholars to tell us the obvious?

Steve Goh ·

Hello tell me something new. You mean with all your vetting procedures, your previous MP David Ong could still fall through the cracks? If so, there must be something seriously wrong with your processes. Oh I get it, your comments only apply to the opposition, but not to your omnipresent self. How conceited can you be. Don't forget, "to err is human, to forgive divine

Jm Chow

Yes...Character is very important...not only for MPs....it is important even for a maid.

The PAP MP who had sex outside his marriage... is as bad as a maid who has sex with her boy friend on her off days and got pregnant.
By law, we have to sack the maid...and as employer we lose the guarantee deposit...as punishment.

Yes, the guilty MP had been sacked...but as the party for the MP of flawed character, PAP must bear equal responsibility. For this, PAP should be censored(or punished) by the voters.

Yes...the voters should punish PAP this time...by withholding their votes for the PAP candidate.

Tah Por

having mps resigned for being bad models of integrity and responsibility should be enough justification for PAP to move away from character assassination ... very unsure why harping on this when it has erred on the wrong side...can it guarantee there will be no more mps going to be like david ong... and if happen again ...should the pap then ask the public and oppo to forgive and forget again or should entire pap mps quit...
because each time it harp on this...some scandal will happpen again in the future...i think if there is no guarantee of a person true character till publicly exposed...please move on to pressing issues that people are facing in the daily lives...

Curio WS ·

"character and integrity being the "first requirement", ..what went wrong within PAP to poduce the likes of Palmer and Ong..?? Shouldn't he be spending more time within his party to weed out those lacking that qualities and let the people of BB decide whom they want as their MP.

Video of the entire SDP rally on Friday 29 April, it is actually very mild. Each speaker is their own person, speaking their minds in their speeches. LHL is full of shit in his attack of the SDP's rally in the MSM.
