Budget 2010 did not mention defence budget is lowered!

As usual, the budget 2010 is beautifed with nice figures but tangible benefits are not felt.

Those inflated utility bills having some discounts are just peanuts, overtime, the so-called subsidies will go back to the same place again.

Surprisingly, budget 2010 did cut defence budget , let say, from 11 billions to 5 billions.

Neighboring countries will not fight a hi-tech war with singapore if there is a silly war among.

They do not have to fight a war with singapore, because a cold war is good enough to destroy singapore mentally. When food and water become more expensive, local singaporeans will fight the Istana people.

Singapore needs just an economical and effective security team , and a pacifist govt to do the magic.
Neighboring people are not hooligans or animals, they too have families and countries to love.

If we treat them like friends, they will reciprocate with sincerity---the word here is sincerity.

Singapore is saddled with high defence budget, local citizens will suffer because certain unnecessary fees and taxes refuse to go away because of the defence budget.

11 billion defence budget is like a paraniod budget, singapore is fighting itself within its mind, and keep suspecting neighboring countries are enemy.

11 Billion is really a paraniod amount. It should bring down to 2 or 3 billion, and let go those regulars who are in green drawing so high pay to be gainfully employed outside and not living off taxpayers money for nothing.

Tharman should address this defence budget with confidence, bring it down to unburden the nation.

Actually Singapore don't need very high tech defend. Just as others said, cut off supply Singapore will be in trouble.
Just need 20 helicopter and 100 patrol boat to patrol tiny island will do to deter smuggling. Malaysia and Indo attack Singapore for what reason no natural resources. What ever fighter jet are wasting money.
What will gov do if Indo and Malaysia cut off gas and water? Of course Singapore will not attack 1st, don't even think of fire a shot 1st. Then Singapore will be in shit trouble because cannot justify been under attack to get help from others nation.

I think the forummer is talking about Indonesia & Malaysia deciding to cut off trade with Spore. Take for example the ban on sand sales to Spore. Next time it could be water, timber, gas,...

So are you suggesting the gov't should use the SAF to force them to trade with Spore

Agree with you. Many still living thinking can use SAF to force anyone sell them anything they want. Now globalization is business talk not fighting.
Fighting even worst. Just like in sand case. Singapore have to buy more expensive sand from others country.
Even Singapore is willing to pay higher price neighbour country may not want to sell.
As neighbour must treat them as one family not fighting each others.

We are totally reliant upon our neighbors. Indonesia just impose huge tax on visiting Singapore, Indo vistors will drop and already we have a problem. Indonesia just slow down sand and we suffer.

before they would cut off anything, there's always trade negotiations. (that's another war front literally.)

if it's about money.. then it's always can be resolved.

Why bother with the tanks, just have the Malaysian immigration go slow(er) Just like Indonesia did when Spore dragged their feet on about some crooked Indos & dirty money


Without Malaysian workers , foodstuff, goods ,,,, Spore's economy would suffer. Spore can try to import from elsewhere but with high fuel prices that would mean $$$.

Foreign companies don't like to see problems & may start to pulling out.
