Protecting teachers' well-being and promoting respect for them took centre stage at the annual Ministry of Education (MOE) seminar on Wednesday (Sep 18).
Education Minister Chan Chun Sing set "baseline" expectations for communication, spotlighting the need for MOE to "set boundaries and recalibrate expectations" for what educators should and should not do, as well as what they need to do or are expected to do.

For example, Mr Chan said that teachers should not be expected to respond to work-related messages outside of school hours, except in emergencies.

He believes this would, in turn, allow teachers to focus on conducting classes and student activities, as well as have protected time after school hours to take care of their families, rest and recharge.

$150k? Are you Chan Chun seng? You obviously have no idea about Govt pay scales. Average teacher at 40 depending on his or her substantive grade earns no more than $5.5k. Women earn less because they don’t do NS. These are graduates and MOE doesn’t give a fuck if you have a general degree, Honours, or a PhD. Pay scale is undifferentiated. Starting pay at at a local uni on average is only $7k so I don’t know where you got the fucking idea that MOE is a money tree. What kind of bonuses are you talking about?
