guess they would be professional enough to put their history aside and get on with the job if it came to that bro.

Its time Moyes gets a top job with a large financial backing.. He's been with Everton for a long time now..

Everton line up Martinez as Manchester United-bound Moyes replacement

The Merseyside club have already identified the Wigan manager as a replacement for the long-serving Scot, who is due to announced as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor

EXCLUSIVE
By Wayne Veysey | Chief Correspondent

Everton have made Roberto Martinez their No.1 target to replace Manchester United-bound David Moyes, Goal.com can reveal.

The Wigan manager is the Merseysiders' standout choice to take over from the Scot, who is poised to bring an end to his 11-year reign at Goodison Park.

Everton have been preparing for the possibility of Moyes's departure at the end of the season for months given his failure to commit to negotiations to extend a contract that expires this summer.

Chairman Bill Kenwright is also an admirer of Porto manager Vitor Pereira, who was a guest of the club at a Premier League match over the Christmas period, but the Toffees will move first for Martinez if, as expected, Moyes takes over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

As revealed by Goal.com, the 50-year-old Scot has agreed a deal to become the new United boss and is set to be appointed by the end of the week, possibly even within 24 hours of Sir Alex's announcement.

Although Kenwright claimed in an interview in April that no plans are in place for what would be the club's first change of manager in 11 years, it is understood that a shortlist of possible successors has been compiled, with Martinez's name at the top.

The 39-year-old Spaniard is much admired by Everton chiefs for maintaining Wigan's Premier League status since joining the north-west club from Swansea City in the summer of 2009.

He will lead the Latics out in Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday but the club are on the brink of losing the top-flight spot that they have held for nine seasons following Tuesday's 3-2 home defeat to the Swans.

It was a defeat that leaves Wigan three points adrift of safety with a trip to Arsenal and a home fixture against Aston Villa to come.

Martinez held talks with Liverpool last summer before rejecting the opportunity to succeed Kenny Dalglish after refusing to work under a planned tier of executives with shared control of recruiting players.

He is believed to regard Everton as an attractive post, given the foundations put in place by Moyes in recent years.

Loyal
I find it amusing that that the Man Utd spoke about loyalty as an aspect they wanted from a successor, given that the club will surely sack the guy if he does not even make it to UCL regularly due to the financial situation the club is in.

The ability to achieve certain milestones in the EPL and UCL should be the minimum criteria that Fergie's successor be held to. I do not envy Moyes at all if he is the successor of choice that Fergie has selected.

Why Moyes is the better choice over Mourinho for the long term. He won't job hop or in this case club hop like Mourinho, his tenure at Everton is 11 years! Moyes got his wishes - no more complaining of lack of funds and he can get to play Champions League football.

Another thing, don't forget he's Scottish. Now we know it's true that the Indians are bringing in their village people to replace Sinkies.

Will feel strange seeing Man U without Fergie next season..

I'm hoping that Mourinho comes to Chelsea.. Kinda miss that guy when he left Chelsea..

If Mourinho hadn't left, how could he have won the treble with Inter?

He could have won more trophies with Real Madrid too. Too bad the prima donnas Ramos and Casillas tried to undermine his authority.

Scots are like the Hakkas: very clannish and trust only their own kind. Obviously Fergie only trusts Moyes to take over.

Moyes's problem and complaint has always been lack of funds and despite that he is able to bring his club vying for top four finish. With Man U, he will have to prove that he can win trophies. Of course, Man U are not Arsenal - a team happy to trade their best players for money and settle for mediocrity.

From their response to Moyes' appointment, you can tell who are the glory hunters among the Man Utd fans.

Glory hunters: OMG no European experience, Everton never beat the top sides etc.

They will switch support to Man City soon if Man Utd doesn't win anything during the transition period.

To be fair to Arsenal, Wenger had no choice. Arsenal was in debt after building the Emirates, and its owner Stan Kroenke is very stingy.
