The Thais are not likely to build the Kra canal. It'll divide Thailand into 2, and the southern part has been restive for the past few decades. It could easily lead to losing the southern provinces. Borrowing money from chinkland is also a huge debt trap. Just ask Sri Lanka.

Bangkok is Beijing's favourite whore. This project is too complicated. Whatever it is, Sinkieland will still be many vessel owners favourite port of call lah. In terms of ship repairs , marine expertise and supplies to those vessels anchored at the Eastern anchorage, Sinkapore companies are way ahead of their SEA counterparts in terms of service and quality. That's why many international salvage marine companies are still based in Singapore. You only need to go to Loyang Offshore base and Tuas and see all the major marine companies there. Trust me on this. I have 20 years of marine experience.

There are many upgraded ports along Malacca straits and STILL ! they still prefer Sickapoor .. It does divert traffic away from what would otherwise pass Singapore. But it needs to serve the function of competing with Singapore on transshipment hub status to make it a real success. Don’t get me wrong, I do feel it is a good project especially strategically it pulls an ASEAN country closer to China and that would really piss the pro AMDK mudderfxxkers

Saving 2 to 3 days is not commercially viable. suez and Panama save 2-3 weeks sailing.
Unless of course its for security reasons.

N oil tankers from the middle east just unload at thailand n move back to ME...the oil is tpt via pipelines to chicon land. That way vulnerable ships won't travel the straits of malacca. N shipping might b reduced n easing the congestion on the straits.
