Breaking News! 200 SMRT bus drivers went on strike!

Now that the root cause of the strike is public knowledge, I wonder what's the present working relationship between the Malaysian and PRC bus drivers. Maybe some fights took place betweem them? And as expected, not reported?

How on earth can they differentiate pay between 2 groups of nationalities??? This is absurb. Pay should be differentiated by skillsets or experience between individuals and not by nationalities. Whats next?? Pay discrimination between sexes, by age groups, maybe China workers pay more than Indians...etc etc

PAP very scared. This episode shows that unity is strength.Break 1 chopstick very easy.U try to break 100 chopsticks at one time, cannot break too strong.Singapore workers united ? Lanjiao !!!KNNCCB to the PAP !!!

DO not say that. There is a million PRCs, >100K Myanmar and guess the rest.

Re: Which is longer??

They must have read our posts here and summoned enough courage to call a spade a spade otw they will face the wrath again from the people. Well done, PAP IB for bringing out opinions back to yr masters.

Now they say, it is an illegal strike!!

SMRT bus drivers' action was "illegal strike" The SMRT bus drivers' action on Monday was an illegal strike and will be dealt with, says Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin.

How will the deal with this, we are watching the drama, if these were SINgaporeans doing this..it would be STRIKE from the word go!

Think the decision was finally made to prosecute the strikers, hence the official naming ceremony. Disappointing to see pap taking so long to make decision. What were they waiting for? The rest of FW to follow suit in strikes? Or waiting for instructions from Chinese embassy?

Finally some backbone.

More like the Chinese ambassador gave green light. Pap worry become another international incident. Strikes in Singapore and boycott of Singapore products in china. Die damn ugly.

Re: Which is longer??

A group of PAP clowns with multi million salaries cant even manage a simple crisis... What a disgrace!

Actually, looking at PRC drivers' pay, add lodging subsidies, and add foreign worker levy to it, PRC drivers aren't exactly cheap!

Not counting OT. Just by looking at that chart. Quick calculation

Total cost for local workers per month is $1,775 + CPF 15% = $2042

Annual cost = 13 mths * 2042 = $26,546

Total cost for hiring PRC per month = $1075 + $220(lodging) + 210(taking lowest tier Worker's levy) = $1,505
Worker's levy info

Annual cost = 12.5(1 month bonus for 2 years) * $1,505 = $18,812

Total Cost of MY per month = $1,400 + 210(taking lowest tier Worker's levy) = $1,610

Annual Cost = 13mth * $1,400 = $20,930

Definitely a huge jump for hiring of locals vs FWs but not that much separating MY and PRC. PRC is still cheap at 30% cheaper than locals. This is the part that MoM needs to address IMO

Is there such a thing as a legal strike in Spore:confused:

*JUST IN*: SMRT says it has lodged a police report over striking bus drivers from China, says 88 did not show up for work today. It also says 171 bus drivers didn't report to work yesterday, not 102 as reported earlier.

Good calculation. Levy will increase next month by another $50~$100/head.
Malaysia driver only extra $100/month. Better hire them, can drive safer, talk simple English/Malay/Chinese/some even Hokkien.................worth it.

I did a quick search and it seems SMRT have already reach their FW quota so they can only replace cannot hire more unless they can get some locals in

Mean that they already over 3rd tier.
So you should calculate average levy(1st tier + 2nd tier + 3rd tier/3) should be actual figure.

Bus driver should be under service sector.
Levy rate is different from manufacturing as you give lower tier $210
For service 1st tier>>1st 15% is $240
2nd tier>> 15%~25% is $360
3rd tier >> 25%~45% is $500
45% is the max quota for service sector.
