I feel very sorry for the little girl and her parents.
But apparently, the grandfather was "in a rage" when interviewed by reporters, and claimed that there was nothing he could do as the car was travelling very fast.
My simple reply to the gentleman from Fujian was that he could have crossed at the pedestrian crossing nearby. According to the news reports, there was a pedestrian crossing as well as an overhead bridge nearby.
Does he realise that he is partially to blame?

U know I got a co-worker that stayed around that area. He told me the whole neighbourhood knows about this ah beng speeding his car along that strech of road everyday around that time. He told me that everybody would know he is coming when he sound out his engine before speeding down.

Chinese newspaper reported that the driver is an irresponsible show-off racer that caused a lot of noises on the road. He had many witnesses against him and his bad habit and someone who knew him was not surprised such accident will happen. I would certainly object to categorising them as criminals when they did not break the law. The people have the power to decide how many immigrants they want to let in. It is up to them whether they wish to exercise this choice. Get this into your head, they are here because the government invited them here. Most of them did not force their way onto this tiny island although a small percentage may have resorted to illegal means or trickery to get in.

Whatever the reaction of the grandfather (the rage may be understandable due to the tragedy), we still need to behave with decorum and respect the dead. There is no need to bring ourselves down to the level of hurling unjustified insults.

Did he do nothing except stand there? Some people would have shielded the young with their body or pushed them but then he might be very old and so might not have reacted fast enough. This is a tragedy but i do see more and more FTs disregarding their safety and dashing/cycling in any direction they like.

The other day, at a crossing in Cairnhill, even though the light was already red, a caucasian man arrogantly, knowingly seeing cars coming his way, still walk slowly across as he knows people will wait for him. I was surprised but the cars in front of me all slow down and everyone stopped like it was a red light and moved only when he finished crossing.
