Sim Ann has spoken of online comments that ‘spew hate and prejudice against individuals or groups’

Sr. Parl. Sec. Sim Ann has spoken of online comments that ‘spew hate and prejudice against individuals or groups’. Had her radar been better tuned, she would have come to the realization that a sizeable number of the better educated Singaporeans and intellects are so disillusioned with many of the Government’s marginal or adverse policies that they pour their disenchantment onto the Internet.

What has happened to the psyche of the nation? Surely the Prime Minister and his Ministerial colleagues are aware of the malaise. And in calling for a National conversation he has added fuel to this latent fire of hatred.

=> Made worse when it is but a kelong-versation that is meant to hoodwink SGs and insult their intelligence?

Despair, despair, despair. It is the Government’s attitude in many ways that add to the miseries of Singaporeans (high cost of living, overcrowding, expensive housing, employment competition, lower wages, education policies favoring foreigners, etc.) to such extent that these educated Singaporeans now simply oppose for the sake of opposing. The build-up and surge of opposition to the Government has been going on for some time after GE2011 and this must be a worrying trend and a cause of concern for any serious Government.

Whenever a new policy is proposed, whether it be a defining issue many just oppose it immediately. Whatever the Government does they are not satisfied. When a Minister makes a statement, criticisms are abound. Take the example of LKY and GCT accepting CSJ’s proposal to discharge his bankruptcy. Most noble and charitable act is it not? Yet LKY and GCT were roundly and rightly condemn and held to ridicule.

Bloggers are so quick to jump on the ‘bashing the PAP and PM’ bandwagon that they weren’t thinking as to how their views were going to be perceived by a majority. They also spew adverse libertarian viewpoints rightly or wrongly.

But not all online voices are about anger and hate. Often well thought through arguments and different points of views are often put forward by online Netizens. If only the Government would open their eyes and ears….

Why so? There are 3 main reasons

Firstly, fundamental underlying cause is the totally unjustifiable and immorally high salaries that the Prime Minister, Ministers, MPs and their Mandarins are enjoying. To many, these Ministers and MPs are living off the fat of their hard work and not being grateful at that. The educated Singaporeans and the intellects want to extract their pound of flesh.

LKY, GCT and LHL are all wrong about equating Ministers’ salaries to that of the corporate world. If these Ministers and MPs desire to make the money, let them take off their epaulets and ranks and go into the corporate world – the banks, the law firms, the medical practices and accounting firms and see how may will make it. Some ex-Ministers are out of work or commanding only a fraction of their Ministerial salaries. Many are living off their “connections”. You cannot charge the immoral salaries and say that you want to serve the people.
Secondly, the “I know what is best for you” attitude can be seen when here:
LeeKuanYew: “So, when I heard Dr. Tan Cheng Bock, I decided I would stand up and tell him he’s wrong… you have to decide whether you think he knows more or I know more. You have to decide whether he will give you the answer to Singapore’s future — or that I am likely to give you the better road to the future.”
Dr. Tan Cheng Bock is no jester. The PAP Government’s continual 50-year rule has emboldened them. Another example – the influx of foreigners due to our Government’s misconceived immigration policies has already created insurmountable and unexpected social friction and yet the Government, despite Singaporeans’ rising anger, is still try to sell the idea that foreigners workers and PRs are an absolutely necessity for our future.

Thirdly the insincerity of the Government as can be seen here too:
PM Lee Hsien Loong: “Never forget we’re servants of the people, not their masters. Always maintain a sense of humility and service. Never lord it over the people we’re looking after and serving. Be as strict with ourselves as we are with others.”
Goh Chok Tong: “They want to be engaged and involved, they want to be talked to, not talked down to. Very importantly, they want to see fair play and accountability.”
MSM doing the country a disservice

The mainstream media is invariably the Government’s mouthpiece. They lean towards the Government rightly or wrongly and when providing opposing views and criticisms, these are often muted or toned down. As a matter of fact, the MSM, in supporting Government is too clearly and often one-sided.
The resultant face-off between the MSM and Bloggers results in the spewing of some ‘hate and prejudice’ against individuals or groups and even innate objects as can be seen on the blog sites. Often there is little differentiation between the good, the bad and the inconsequential of policies put out by the Government. The good ones are expected; bad and inconsequential ones are simply condemned and with ‘hate and prejudice’ – innate objects, individuals or groups notwithstanding.

Sim Ann should look to see why the online comments ‘spew hate and prejudice’. Online bloggers are educated Singaporeans and who are now opposing for the sake of opposing.

The PAP is totally out of touch with Sinkees. That's the problem with the scholar system. These supposedly brilliant people have no clue on reality and because they have been given the silver spoon, they don't know how the 99 percent live.

PAP is an outstanding party and Singapore has an outstanding parliment.
Isn't it amazing that 81 MPs have exactly the same view point and agree exactly with everyone else on the issue of foreign talent?
Not one MPs from PAP has so far speak on the ills of importing talent, despite the obvious faliure in football and even table tennis (on the sentimental part). Not even one?

And they still think it is alright to continue their same tone like a broken record? OUTSTANDING.

More like better educated, younger Sinkies are seeing through the bullshit conjured up by the pappies.

In fact, these days you don't even need to be a high IQ genius to do so. For example, the 'National CONversation' dog-and-pony show on tv not too long ago. The propaganda spinmeisters working for the PAP govt are getting sloppy.

LHL will say, 'great minds think alike.' And GMS will reply, 'fools seldom differ.'

truth to be told, old school fogeys kong weh sar hoon sar hoon, message transmitted, end of story.
folks these days more blunt, is it due to a lack of common understanding? or plain stupidity?

The better educated are beginning to learn from the 40% to be more self-centred rather than to think and do for the common good.

You see so many goodies are offered or done by the gahment to appease the 40%. So much money and effort have been done to satisfy them. Even then, it's not enough - it will never be enough!

It's time for the 60% to have a share of the goodies as well.

Chee SJ and WP MPs and many others are dying to serve the people... and earn the "immoral salaries". What so you to them?

One who did found himself on the other side. Tan Cheng Bock.

These comments just reminded me of Greece and Ireland. In good times and low interest rates, the Greeks built tons of swmming pools in their backyards and Irish built more houses than UK itself even though UK has a population 13 times larger. When the economy crashed and the govt executes austerity measures, you see the citizens protest and riot in the streets. If the economy tanks as Peter Schiff, Marc Faber and Jim Rogers predict in 2013/2014, the end come than later for the MIW.

The 60.1% supporters who have benefited from the property flipping and splurging on luxury cars/ million dollar apartments will no longer support the government of the day when their assets are worth a fraction of today's prices. That will be start of the end when the property bubble burst, asset values crashed and the average voter is not able to find a job to pay off his huge loans.
