Redknapp hopes Lampard left out Harry Redknapp is hoping Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas will leave Frank Lampard on the bench for Thrusday's mouth-watering London derby at White Hart Lane.
Lampard has been a regular starter for Chelsea for most of the last decade, but has had to play a largely peripheral role recently, starting three of the last six games from the bench. The 33-year-old returned to the Chelsea starting line-up last weekend at Wigan, but the Blues' failure to beat Roberto Martinez's strugglers may cause Villas-Boas to make changes in midfield again.
The Portuguese has opted to play Raul Meireles in Lampard's place recently after making it clear that the former West Ham midfielder is no longer guaranteed a place in the Blues starting XI. Redknapp is Lampard's uncle and knows him well having seen the midfielder come through the ranks at West Ham. The Tottenham boss thinks Lampard is by no means a spent force and hopes he will be omitted from the Blues' team for the clash in north London.
"I hope he isn't playing tomorrow," Redknapp said. "He is a fantastic player so if he is not playing I wouldn't be too disappointed. "Look at his record - he scores nearly 20 goals a year every year. "That's incredible for a midfielder."
Villas-Boas has struggled to bring success to Chelsea while attempting to lower the average age of his squad in his rebuilding mission at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are nine points off the top off the top of the Barclays Premier League and will do little to stop claims Tottenham are now the capital's best team if they lose tomorrow.
Despite playing one less game than their rivals, Spurs have opened up a five-point gap over Arsenal and will have the same advantage over Chelsea if they win on Thursday. Redknapp denies this means his team are favourites to win.
"I wouldn't say we are favourites," Redknapp said. "It looks like an even game and we were not saying that a few years ago. We have come a long way." Villas-Boas has come in for criticism for his tactics recently, but fears that the 34-year-old could be sacked in his first season eased after he took his team on a four-match unbeaten run.
Redknapp thinks his problems are small fry compared to that of under-pressure Blackburn boss Steve Kean and has no doubt that Chelsea will be challenging for the title come the end of the season.
"Chelsea will be there at the end of the season going for trophies," Redknapp said. "Villas-Boas' situation is different to that of someone like Steve Kean. The Chelsea fans are not abusing him non-stop are they? He has good players. They are bang up there where they always are and I am sure he will do a great job there.
"They have fantastic players, mentally strong players who have been there and won it all." Redknapp's team go in to the match as marginal favourites having lost just once in their last 13 league games. Their last defeat at White Hart Lane came in August and they have looked almost unplayable at home for the majority of the season.
The excellent form of speedy winger Gareth Bale has played a huge part in helping propel Spurs up to third in the league, but the Welshman missed Sunday's game against Sunderland with a sprained ankle and is a major doubt for the clash. "He (Bale) is struggling at the moment. He hasn't been able to train so he is very doubtful," Redknapp said.
Captain Ledley King is also a doubt as he struggles to play more than one game a week due to his chronic knee injury. Emmanuel Adebayor should overcome a minor foot injury and start, but there is a big question mark over the fitness of Jermain Defoe, who sat out Sunday's game with a hamstring complaint.
"Jermain thinks he has a chance but the physio doesn't," Redknapp added. "The physio feels if we take a chance on him he could tear it quite badly and then it's a six-week job. We don't need that really, but he loves training and playing."
United denied more tickets for City date 22 December 2011
Manchester United have lost the fight to increase their ticket allocation from Manchester City, ahead of their FA Cup clash in January. The two Manchester clubs were drawn against each other in the third round of the competition, with the tie scheduled for January 8 at City's Etihad Stadium.
The Premier League champions have complained to the governing body about the hosts proposed visiting allocation, which is supposed to represent 15 per cent of the home side's capacity. But it has been confirmed that United will only be offered 5,961 seats instead of the 7,100 they should have, with the Red Devils writing to the FA asking them to remind last year’s winners of their obligations.
According to the Manchester Evening News, a meeting between the police and the council recommended that the FA back City's stance. The situation is understood to be complicated due to the fact United usually only offer clubs 8,500 seats for cup games, which is 3,000 less than the 15 per cent requirement, but are given dispensation to do so because of Old Trafford's large capacity.
City sources have since denied claims that the lower seat allocation was an attempt to get one over on their local rivals, insisting the decision to do so was down to the fact that their stadium layout makes it much harder to allocate more than 6,100 away fans for any game.

Torres: Liverpool owners lied to me 22 December 2011
Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has claimed that fans of former club Liverpool 'don't know the truth' behind his move to Stamford Bridge. The Spain international also accused the Reds' owners, Fenway Sports Group, of breaking promises.
Torres left Anfield in a 50-million-pound deal in January, a move that has made him an unpopular figure among the supporters that idolised him during his time at the Merseyside club.Torres claims there was more to the transfer than meets the eye, however, saying Reds fans 'don't know' what their club's owners are like.
"The Liverpool fans don't know the truth about why I signed for Chelsea," he told Spanish television station Canal+ Liga."The fans don't even know half of what happened. They don't know what the people in charge at Liverpool are like - they have a completely different perception of what they are like."
"They made promises that they didn't keep and I left because I realised I didn't have time to be part of a project that would take years.""I have nothing against the Liverpool fans. I didn't want to leave Liverpool the way I did but the club lied. I was let down and I don't understand why the fans hate me."
Torres has struggled since joining Chelsea, scoring only three goals in his 25 Premier League appearances for the club so far, but feels that he deserves more respect from his critics for his past achievements."I am going to try to be very humble and get back into the Chelsea starting line-up," he said.
"My form has not been good but I am world and European champion and I deserve more respect.""It's hard being on the bench but I respect the players who are playing. I'm going to support the team and get back in."His poor form, he admitted, could put his place in Spain's Euro 2012 squad next summer in jeopardy, but the 27-year-old is confident he has a future with the national team.
"It's true that (Spain head coach) Vicente del Bosque is worried about me and my form for Chelsea," Torres said. "It's up to me to go back to being the striker I was before.""If I go back to how I was a few years ago, I will again play an important role in the Spanish national team."
Arsenal's Boxing Day match with Wolves at the Emirates Stadium has been postponed by 24 hours due to the London tube strikes.
The Premier League fixture will now be played on December 27 to avoid potential disruption caused by the industrial action which was scheduled for the same day.
The strike is the subject of a legal appeal by London Underground bosses and so may not go ahead, but Arsenal require a longer 'preparation period' in order to ensure the safety of supporters, according to the club's official website.
The match on the new date will kick-off at 3pm.
Chelsea's meeting with Fulham at Stamford Bridge has also been thrown into doubt as a result of the planned strike action.
Everton boss David Moyes said he was disgusted with the way Blackburn fans treated manager Steve Kean during their loss to Bolton.
Rovers fans have been vocal in their calls for Kean to be sacked after a poor start to the English Premier League season, one that has seen them slump to the bottom of the table with just two wins.
They again called on owners Venky's to dump Kean during the 2-1 loss to Bolton at Ewood Park on Tuesday.
Moyes, whose Everton side meet Bolton on January 4, said he left the clash at half-time because of the treatment Kean was getting.
"I thought it was disgusting. I was at the game and I left at half-time. I couldn't believe the criticism they (Blackburn fans) gave to their manager," Moyes said.
"If they had supported their team as well as they'd shouted at their manager then I think the team might've got a result in the game."
"I'm a football manager, it could quite easily happen to me and I was disgusted at how the football supporters had treated Steve and the only way I could show was by leaving at half-time."
Moyes was unwilling to speak too much about the issues at Blackburn, but said he felt for Kean hearing the criticism of the fans."It's football. We're in it, we know the business," he said.
"Blackburn's not my club so I can't comment much on what the supporters think or how they feel so it's not for me to say but as a human being, I was there and I felt for another one."

Ferguson praises Kean's "dignity" Sir Alex Ferguson has never previously witnessed the level of abuse heaped on Blackburn boss Steve Kean at Ewood Park on Tuesday night.
The Rovers faithful have never taken to Kean but their relationship reached a new low in midweek as Rovers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bolton that sent them plummeting to the foot of the Barclays Premier League.
With demonstrations taking place after the game, it was widely expected Kean would have been sacked by now.
The League Managers' Association have already criticised the club's owners, Venky's, for their handling of Blackburn and it is known former manager Mark Hughes is not keen on the idea of returning to a club in such turmoil.
Kean has survived to take charge of Rovers for their Boxing Day trip to Liverpool, with Ferguson praising his fellow Scot for the dignity he has retained in the face of such unremitting criticism.
"I have not seen anything as bad as that," said Ferguson. "I feel for the lad. "He seems to be in complete control of himself at press conferences and has not let events get to him.
"It is remarkable that under that kind of pressure he can retain his dignity the way he has done. "I tried to phone him the other day but he is probably right to keep it off."
Ferguson has spoken often about the confrontational nature of today's society and how fans are quick to vent their frustrations these days. And this, he believes, is just another extreme example.
"It is terrible to watch that," he said. "It doesn't say a lot for our society nowadays when you see that kind of behaviour from fans.
"We are all emotional. We all like to see our team win. But for goodness sake, give the lad a break."
Monaco takeover complete Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev has completed a takeover of struggling Monaco and promised to spend at least 100million euros to turn the club into a European force.
The fertiliser magnate heads the Monaco Sport Invest enterprise which today acquired a controlling 66.67% share in the football club which reached the 2004 Champions League final but dropped out of Ligue 1 at the end of last season.
Monaco's decline has continued into the current campaign and they are currently bottom of the French second division. The club announced the buy-out by MSI on their official website.
In a statement, Monaco said: "MSI have committed to invest at least 100million euros (£83.6million) over the next four years. This sum constitutes a minimum guarantee and if required can be increased."
Rybolovlev becomes the new club president.
He said: "I don't consider this operation simply as an acquisition, but as the start of an effective new partnership in the interest of the development of AS Monaco FC.
"I am a fervent football fan. Having lived for long enough in Monaco, I realise that AS Monaco FC isn't only one of the principality's sporting teams, but that it represents also one of the principal symbols of the principality, its pride and its traditions.
"I believe the club has enormous potential.
"I hope that we will be able to achieve on a national and European level."
Ferguson backs Wigan survival chances 23 December 2011
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wigan will stay in the Premier League ahead of the sides' Boxing Day clash.Wigan sit 18th in the top flight above only Bolton and Blackburn Rovers, but have seen a marked improvement in form lately, having only lost once in their last six games.
Roberto Martinez's men drew against Liverpool and Chelsea at the DW Stadium this week, and Ferguson has hailed the Premier League strugglers' impressive form ahead of their visit to Old Trafford on Monday."I watched Wigan versus Chelsea the other day and I thought Wigan were terrific," Ferguson said.
"It says a lot for Roberto Martinez - he continues to play good football irrespective of what position they're in.""We have a good record against Wigan but we won't take anything for granted. We need to keep out foot on the pedal."
Despite being regularly touted as favourites for the drop in the last few seasons, Wigan have consistently avoided a return to the Championship, yet Ferguson does not believe Martinez' side will be at threat from relegation this term."I don't think they're a relegation team - they do well against the bigger teams," he said.
"Last year, I think they lost heavily to Chelsea (6-0 at the DW Stadium) and, this season, they got a draw and could have won.""I think Wigan will stay in the Premier League."Whilst United find themselves just two points behind league leaders Manchester City, his side have faced criticism following the 6-1 defeat to their city rivals, as well their Carling Cup and Champions League exits to Crystal Palace and Basel respectively.
"The criticism has been understandable," Ferguson said."You lose a derby game 6-1, you're knocked out of the (Carling) Cup and you lose to Basel, who aren't a powerhouse. You can understand the criticism.""But we show the resilience and determination to do something about it, each time it happens. That says a lot about the character of the team."

Roberto Mancini's men are top of the Barclays Premier League at Christmas - but only by two points. However, they will be expected to hold on to top spot after their visit to West Brom at the Hawthorns.
United, meanwhile, will be overwhelming favourites against lowly Wigan, but would do well to be cautious given the Latics' recent resurgence.

Chelsea will be hoping to get their potential title bid back on track when they welcome Fulham, who are still fresh from their 5-0 hammering by United.

Monday, December 26 Bolton v Newcastle
Bolton defender Marcos Alonso has been ruled out for four to six weeks to undergo surgery to replace a pin in his foot. Defender David Wheater is back in contention after serving the final game of a four-match suspension. Midfielder Sean Davis and defender Sam Ricketts stepped up their bids for a first-team comeback with a game for the reserves against Oldham this week.
Yohan Cabaye will return to the Newcastle squad after he missed the 3-2 home defeat by West Brom on Wednesday evening through suspension. Full-back Davide Santon (knee) is being assessed after limping out of the Baggies game and midfielder Danny Guthrie (groin) is still a doubt, while striker Peter Lovenkrands could be sidelined for up to three weeks by a calf injury. Central defender Steven Taylor (Achilles) is expected to sit out the rest of the season and midfielder Dan Gosling completes his three-match ban.

Chelsea v Fulham
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is hopeful David Luiz will spare him a defensive crisis for the west London derby. Villas-Boas found himself down to just one centre-half in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham on Thursday night after Branislav Ivanovic limped off injured, along with midfielder John Obi Mikel. Both look set to miss Monday's match, but Villas-Boas is optimistic Luiz will return from a knee problem, while he may recall Frank Lampard with Ramires suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season.
Fulham have no fresh injury concerns following their 5-0 defeat against Manchester United. The Cottagers have been boosted by Steve Sidwell's return to training after a hernia operation although he is unlikely to feature against his former club. He will be joined on the sidelines by fellow midfielder Simon Davies (back), goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer (spine) and defender Zdenek Grygera (knee).

Liverpool v Blackburn
Midfielder Jay Spearing returns to Liverpool's squad after serving a three-match suspension. The 23-year-old provides the defensive option in central midfield but the Reds' problems lie further upfield, which may mean forward Craig Bellamy earns a recall against his former club having been left out against Wigan on Wednesday. Captain Steven Gerrard is training and is edging closer to a first-team return after two months out.
Beleaguered Blackburn manager Steve Kean is hoping his defence will not be further weakened by the absence of goalkeeper Paul Robinson who has a small tear in his calf muscle. Robinson is, however, going to attempt to play through the problem by having it strapped up. Martin Olsson (hamstring) and Ryan Nelsen (knee) are out while Gael Givet, who had a successful operation on his heart yesterday, could be back in training next week.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson expects defender Phil Jones to be available after scans showed he did not suffer a broken cheekbone at Fulham on Wednesday. However, Ashley Young (knee) is out for a few weeks, joining Tom Cleverley (ankle), Michael Owen (thigh) and Anderson (knee) on the sidelines, along with long-term casualties Nemanja Vidic (knee) and Darren Fletcher (bowel condition).
Wigan will assess defender Steve Gohouri (flu) and striker Hugo Rodallega before the short trip to Old Trafford. Rodallega picked up a heavy knock during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea, but played against Liverpool in midweek and he will be checked again. James McCarthy is also expected to be available despite also suffering a knock against Liverpool.

Glenn Whelan (calf) is again doubtful but his fellow midfielder Matthew Etherington could return after a slight strain and defender Ryan Shawcross is back from suspension.
Aston Villa are optimistic joint top-scorer Darren Bent will be available having returned to training after being ruled out of the previous two games with a thigh injury. Fellow striker Emile Heskey (Achilles) and central defender James Collins (knee) are also expected to be in contention after missing the midweek home defeat against Arsenal but full-back Alan Hutton will be suspended after his sending-off against the Gunners.

Sunderland v Everton
Sunderland striker Connor Wickham is unlikely to make the Boxing Day clash with Everton despite receiving better news of his injured knee. The teenager missed the 3-2 win at QPR and, while encouraged by what he was told by his specialist, he may not be ready for Monday's game. Striker Fraizer Campbell (knee) played 75 minutes of a practice match on Friday morning, but is still short of match fitness, as is goalkeeper Craig Gordon (knee).
Everton are without winger Seamus Coleman who could be out for two weeks after suffering a recurrence of a groin injury in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Swansea. Midfielder Jack Rodwell and forward Conor McAleny (both hamstring) are battling to prove their fitness.

West Brom v Man City
West Brom head coach Roy Hodgson expects midfielder James Morrison will have recovered from the hamstring injury which forced him to miss the 3-2 win at Newcastle in midweek. But doubts surround full-back Steven Reid (ankle), midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu (groin) and winger Jerome Thomas (ankle) after all three suffered knocks at St James' Park.
Edin Dzeko is Manchester City's main injury concern after the Bosnian striker was forced to miss the midweek win over Stoke with an ankle knock. Manager Roberto Mancini does not believe the damage is too extensive though and also thinks defender Micah Richards will shake off a calf injury.

Tuesday, December 27 Norwich v Tottenham
Norwich have no fresh injury concerns although defender Kyle Naughton, on loan from Spurs, will miss the match through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves in midweek. Former Everton striker James Vaughan is on course for a return in the new year from his knee problem, along with centre-back Elliott Ward (knee). On-loan Manchester United defender Ritchie de Laet (back) could return against Spurs.
Tottenham forward Rafael van der Vaart is likely to miss Tuesday's trip to Norwich after suffering a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Thursday. Spurs will give tests to Jermain Defoe and Younes Kaboul (both hamstring) while Ledley King is unlikely to play having completed two games in five days while Aaron Lennon (hamstring), Michael Dawson (Achilles) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) are out.

Swansea v QPR
Left-back Neil Taylor is Swansea's only major fitness doubt after he suffered a knee injury in the 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park. Scans revealed there is no ligament damage, however, and he still has a chance of featuring against QPR. Winger Nathan Dyer is also set to be available, after missing out with a foot problem against the Toffees.
QPR will again be without Anton Ferdinand despite the defender returning to light training on Friday after a hamstring injury. Shaun Wright-Phillips went for a precautionary scan on a knee complaint on Friday morning, while fellow midfielder Kieron Dyer is out for the season after undergoing foot surgery.

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou is ahead of schedule in his return from a groin injury and could play against Wolves. Kieran Gibbs (groin), Andre Santos (ankle), Carl Jenkinson (back) and Bacary Sagna (ankle) are unavailable, meaning Francis Coquelin, Ignasi Miquel or Sebastien Squillaci could make a rare start in defence. Alex Song returns from suspension, but Jack Wilshere (ankle), Lukasz Fabianski (knee), Vito Mannone (shoulder), Abou Diaby (hamstring) and Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) are out.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will check on the availability of midfielder David Edwards and defender Jody Craddock. Edwards has missed the past two games with a groin injury while Craddock played in a behind closed doors friendly against Crewe in midweek after a three-match absence with a hamstring problem. Full-back Kevin Foley also appeared against Crewe - his first action since ankle surgery in October - but he is unlikely to be involved against the Gunners.
