Backlash against SDP if WP loses

WP won't win in this election even without the disturbance of the opposition. While Palmer Gate may erode 5% of the vote, the Aim Saga will bring fear to the people for voting opposition, you won't know what next to expect to make you repend.

AIM saga will actually help the WP. People voted for Aljunied in spite of seeing for 20 years what PAP did to Potong Pasir and Hougang. The people were in fact saying, "you fuck me, I fuck you back."

It is not about whether or not WP will win a straight fight against the PAP. It is what are the results of the 3 corner fight. If SDP gets 20%, WP gets 25%, OK, no harm done. If SDP gets 10% and WP gets 35%, SDP is fucked.

Regarding "opposition unity", maybe I will use different words now so that you know exactly what I am referring to. People want to see mature behaviour by the opposition. The opposition is still new, people don't want to see the different factions quarrelling between themselves. Right now, there are still people trying to decide whether to vote PAP or vote opposition, and this killing each other is a big turn off.

Political parties are not supposed to want to co-operate with each other unless there is a formal alliance. They can shake hands and say they are friends but that's about it. But nobody wants to see them killing each other.

I have to declare first that I am not conducting a poll. Otherwise I get slammed $1,500 fine.

no, no, no... this is not a poll at all, not even a survey. we're just having kopitiam talk :p:p:p

Giving it to the one likely to poll the least votes probably draw on the most compassion.

no, no, no... as me subscribe to compassion, me will give the vote to the opposition which is most likely to win. after CSJ's antic over the last weekend, don't think me would give my vote to them. for jokers like DL, it should be once bitten, twice shy; third time bitten, better to die :p:p:p

I will give it to the people. Who do they want?

sorry lah, bro, one man one vote, may the best candidate whom connects well with the ground wins :):):)

That is the most ridiculous statement I have heard.

Goh Meng Seng

it's ok, GMS, don't worry! we've heard even more ridiculous things in this forum! both you and me all guilty of it :D:D:D

If you want a true opposition unity, refer to Pakatan Rakyat(PR) of Malaysia.

Not sure why people are trying to compare against Pakatan Rakyat.
They are made up of a coalition of various opposition parties that actually have seats in parliament.

People always forget: SDP and WP are not in a formal coalition. You don't form a coalition in 5 days just because a by-election is announced. The issue is not that it is always unacceptable for one party to put a candidate in parliament and another party to run the town council. The issue is that this smacks of a marriage of convenience. The difference between what Pakatan Rakyat is doing and what CSJ is proposing is the difference between marriage and prostitution.

If RP and SPP were part of SDA, then it would have been acceptable if SPP were to send a candidate, and RP were to let that candidate run under the banner. In fact this has been done before, I think. It's like this. If you touch a woman, and she says yes, then you can keep touching her until she says otherwise. If you touch her and she says no or says nothing, then you better stop touching her.

I like this graphic analogy of the complex relation between WP and SDP. Upz you.

If you cant win the votes that went to the other opposition parties in multi corner fight, those votes arent really yours in the first place... they might vote you only because they have no other choices. How could you blame other parties for your loss when these votes were never yours in the first place?

Great reply.

Which is why I find it ludicrous that you could blame WP from snatching MK GRC from NSP. Is MK GRC your turf? Any title deeds to prove?

Moreover if WP insist on contesting, is there any law to stop NSP from doing the same?

So how could you blame others for displacing NSP when this area wasn't even yours in the first place?

that's GMS's greatest tactic you know, the rationale behind it shall never be revealed :p:p:p

Surely u cannot be so blind. Some inconvenient truth or near facts for you. The WP has the best chance within all the opposition to win against PAP. The branding, and the friesco that Chee has drummed up last week will reinforce that. The SDP and the rest has it within their powers to allow WP to have a straight fight with PAP. By not doing so will just signal to me and like-minded people like me that they dont care two hoots for Singaporeans and the development of democratic reforms in Singapore. If it is proven in this BE that PAP won by less than 50% and WP is the runner-up, I will lay the blame squarely on SDP and party. This is really pure and simple logic bore out of facts...nothing ridiculous or ludicrous about it. If you don't accept this, then u must really be blind and delusional!

PE (Punggol East) is PE (Presidential Election) Part 2.

Tan Jee Say the vote-splitter also from SDP. Coincidence? I think not. 1 coincidence too many.

A rough guideline.

Only 28% of voters view national issues as priority which means even if SDP contest in a 2CF, they would only get a around 30% consider the fact they never do any groundwork, no experience in TC operation. Fighting a campaign purely on national issues means shutting off from the rest of 56%.

talk rubbish again.

but one thing for sure, you are a bit smarter than that chee bye kia. you know how to count your votes and wisely get out of moulmein-kallang before they make you lose your deposit.

why don't you advise that chee bye kia and tell him to get out of punggol east?

They are made up of a coalition of various opposition parties that actually have seats in parliament.

In the election prior to 2008, the oppositions were on their own fighting BN and they were then like the oppositions here simply trying to prevent a 3-corner fight. The result was a thriump for Badawi and BN with nearly all the oppositions wiped out.

In 2008 election however came the formation of the opposition alliance, with PKR led by Anwar calling for DAP and PAS to drop their difference and work together. they were able to rallied the people and the result as a devastating blow to the ruling party, and 5 years on, Najib's legs are shaking with fear, don't even dare to call for the next election

Yah! you are right, the state of opposition in Singapore now is no where near for comparison with PR in Malaysia.

We are entitled to difference of opinion for Aim saga, I think we leave it to that.

In my view, even if SDP gets 10% and WP drop to 35%, you will already see headline on ST show "support for WP dropped!" while there may not be much on SDP. the one who is still fucked is WP.

There is not yet opposition unity in Singapore, each are still sweeping the leaves in their own court yard. Do you know how the Malaysia's PR managed to succeed? It is not by the party members but the members of public who voted them in. Because of their action, the voters feel a sense of responsibility to make it work and scrutinize every single action that the opposition coalition did to make sure they toll the line. the Singapore opposition supporters are not doing that now.
