A PRIVATE tutor who had an affair with a 15-year-old female student was packed off to jail for 12 months yesterday.
The 38-year-old man, a married father of one, admitted to having sex with the girl four times last year during a five-month relationship that was an open secret.
The pair went on joy rides on the man's motorcycle - he even bought her a jacket and a helmet - and exchanged sappy text messages proclaiming their love for each other.
The victim knew he was married and had a child staying with him, but he claimed the boy was his cousin. In fact, it was his autistic son. He also told the girl, who he had been tutoring since Primary 5, that he was 27 when he was 38.
Last week, the court heard that they began talking about sex in October 2006 after she asked him about it during a tutoring session.
The girl, who was not a virgin, went to his home in late September and they had sex, the first of four encounters.
He stopped his maths and science lessons after her parents found out about their relationship.
But he continued to see the teenager and a private eye hired by her mother spotted them behaving intimately. In December, the victim made a police report saying the pair had sex between mid-September and mid-October.
Defence lawyer Amerjeet Singh said his client was not a sexual predator and would not have intercourse with a minor again. He said the man did not initiate the relationship.
The man could have been jailed for up to five years and fined up to $10,000 on each of two charges of having sex with a girl under 16.
Two other similar charges were considered during sentencing.
