BYD is launching its next-gen Blade EV battery soon with more range and even lower cost

BYD is expected to launch its next-gen Blade EV battery later this year. The battery will promote more range at an even lower cost. Will the new battery be BYD’s X-factor in its “liberation battle” over gas-powered vehicles?
BYD to launch new Blade EV battery in 2024
FinDreams, BYD’s battery unit, launched the first-generation Blade battery in 2020, revolutionizing the industry.
BYD’s Blade batteries power Tesla, Ford, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, and other popular electric vehicles from major automakers. The batteries are a major reason behind BYD’s success.
The batteries are installed in most BYD models, such as the low-cost Seagull, Dolphin electric hatch, and Atto 3 SUV.
By using lithium-iron-phosphate as the cathode material, BYD can make the batteries much cheaper. Not only that, but they also offer competitive power density compared to NCM batteries.
With a “Blade-like” design, the battery is built for maximum safety while offering “ultra-long range and ultra-long lifespan.” The longer, flatter design saves space and weight for better efficiency.
BYD is set to change the game again with its next-generation Blade EV battery. BYD’s CEO, Wang Chuanfu, said the new battery will be even smaller and lighter with the same endurance during a recent financial meeting, according to a report by Fast Technology.

BYD’s leader added that it will also reduce power consumption per 100 km, which will likely promote more range and performance.
The company’s latest Blade batteries have an energy density of up to 150Wh/kg. BYD’s next-gen EV battery is expected to reach upwards of 190Wh/kg.
This could enable fully electric models to exceed 621 miles (1,000 km) CLTC range, which would be the highest among LFP batteries. The report claims BYD will release the new battery as soon as August 2024.

Electrek’s Take
After declaring a “liberation battle” on gas-powered cars earlier this year, BYD has launched a series of lower-priced EVs, undercutting rivals.
BYD’s cheapest EV, the new Seagull, starts at just $9,700 (69,800 yuan). And it’s already creating a stir among legacy automakers. Ford’s CEO Jim Farley called the low-cost EV “pretty damn good,” as he warned rivals.
BYD claims new energy vehicles have entered “the knockout round” over gas-powered cars with superior tech and comparable prices. The comments come with its next-gen DM-i (PHEV) system due out soon, which is expected to enable nearly 1,200 miles (2,000 km) CLTC range.
With new EVs rolling out in China, BYD sees joint venture brands’ market share falling from around 40% to 10% over the next three to five years.
The leading Chinese EV maker is also quickly expanding overseas, with plans to sell one million vehicles overseas in 2025, up from 240,000 last year.

Tat is why the EU has or started to mandate physical buttons for controls instead of everything being touch screens because touch screens not safe. As it's distracting n causes lapse in concentration due too too many steps etc...n byd physical controls are much better than tesla as tesla wants to keep it cheap by 100% touch screenAt least Build Your Dreams - BYD is moving in the needed right direction of Tech evolution. However, may it NOT make the mistakes that other China entrepreneurs had made - mass manufacturing of low tech cars, leaving the consumers with such. A car is NOT a low cost Handphone, but a significant costly investment based upon needs.
May it take months if not years to test out such tech before selling any such car. No one would want to spend life savings on a car with tech that would go obsolete within years, or worse - malfunction or burn out. It should be tested the way medicines are put on trial before it is allowed to be sold to the public.
One of the failures of EV cars is the LCD screen. Driving on the road NEEDS 100% FOCUS. Even just a lapse of one second, to look at the LCD screen to make adjustments to the car WILL cause accidents.
The 1st EV car unfortunately came with such when JUST the battery tech alone would had gained market share - a tech leap by itself, but sadly, Elon Musk wanted to challenge Apple, threw in an IPhone in the car, copy & pasted by China entrepreneurs, & now, they are stuck with unsold & even difficulty to re sale such cars to others.....
Blade batteries maybe superceded by even newer tech batteries soon. And if that gap is big, your EV if you had bought one, will depreciate like nuts.Chicon land EV will take over the world...

Good point... like wat they did to micro shit n ExxonAmericunt and Euro no sanction, fine BYD for anti competition? Make byd battery division and car division independent.

Again, it is left to EU - a conscionable organization of European nations led by present day Germany, whom saw Europe's rise & fall, determined now NOT to allow another fall - to speak out, to discuss & find solutions to save lives, evolve & progress
With an IPhone, a consumer is NOT driving & most Nations had banned usage of handphones while driving a HEAVY MACHINE - even a car weighs 1 tonne & Humans weigh an average of only 100 kilos - as it is a DISTRACTION that caused the loss of NOT just one's life, but other innocent lives as well, as often, one needs to FOCUS on the roads, even if empty roads as there is NO telling of WHAT'S AHEAD.
With the IPhone while not driving & as long as NOT walking across dangerous streets but sitting in a cafe, one has ALL the time to type & scroll thru pages to get the info one needs & cause NO danger to anyone.
The issue with EV cars touch screen panel is that one needs to touch on an icon, (1 second), then scroll thru numerous pages & options ( 2 seconds), then touch the appropriate icon to select the adjustments to the car ( 2 seconds). Add it up, it is 5 seconds if one is converse with the icons, & more if one forgets to memorize the 200 page manual to operate the car, or press the wrong icons.
Total it up, it is an average at the least 5 seconds. MANY, many issues will happen on the road even within just 1 second - closeness to another car, tailgating, unaware pedestrian or wildlife crossing the streets, etc. And thus, accidents happen....
With simple knobs & buttons, a driver needs not scroll thru entire pages of a touch screen - just simply press the often used knobs WITHOUT even looking at such knobs. Car operations were meant to be simple, but sadly, entrepreneurs thru foolish ideologies of HI TECHNESS, replaced such with DANGEROUS touch screens....
I believe you can use voice command instead of scrolling. But if driving with passengers, voice command can be very annoying.Again, it is left to EU - a conscionable organization of European nations led by present day Germany, whom saw Europe's Civilization rise & fall, determined now NOT to allow another fall to its civilization - to speak out, to discuss & find solutions to save lives, evolve & progress

If anyone presumes that 5 seconds is relatively fast, just perform a simple & safe experiment - walk across a shopping centre floor with EYES CLOSED & count after me - one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, etc & then find out HOW MANY other shoppers. shops, etc you would have bumped into.....
