Went for my annual check up the other day, overheard a woman, a few seats away from me, on the phone yapping away, lamenting that her blood pressure is on the higher end of 140s/90s, and she went on about her high cholestrol levels and what nots. I turned over and took a quick glance at her, I was taken aback to see that she wasn’t plump or oversized to begin with. What truly shocked me was the fact that she didn’t look over 30 years of age.
Then it was my turn to see the doctor, took my blood pressure, 116/78. Seized the opportunity to chat with the doctor, found out that there’s an increasing trend of younger folks getting HBP- partly hereditary, partly diet and lifestyle to blame. Understanding the P&C of patient data, I probed to check the age range of the youngest patients he had seen with HBP, turned out that the age range of the youngest patients with HBP is in their late teens, albeit the minority in the group of patients with HBP.
Few questions floated in my mind, why are Sinkies so highly strung till you can have folks in their teens with HBP? Are there better ways to educate our folks to lead a healthier lifestyle? Hmm...
