Say what you will about Wenger, but he is probably the best manager to spot and groom talent and I say this as an old Reds fan. His latest batch of raw talent is quite amazing, sad if he does not see them to fruition at the top level of the game. Btw he could end up as coach of the French national team.

As an Arse fan, I will own up to this glaring fact about our talent recruitment policy-we bought talent that has oredi been identified by the smaller less reknown clubs both domestically and France in particular. No point taking credit for the work others have put in. It is just not the Arsenal way. Arsenal is all about the way we play and entertain our fans. This was achieved through the hardwork of alot of people and not just Wenger.

har? when did you start supporting Arsenal? is it after 1996 when Wenger took over.

there is a good reason why Arsenal fans chant "One-nil to Arsenal" still at club grounds. the team used to churn out 1-0 wins on their way to the league titles under George Graham. The old Arsenal way was never to entertain. Just to win.

Wenger changed everything and for that, I think he has the eternal gratitude of sincere fans. Nonetheless, there is a great crisis now at the Emirates and it has to do with the fact that Wenger refused to buy.

I think he will buy in January and we could see Alonso, Yaya Toure and Upson (whom I totally dun rate) coming in amongst others. There is a big financial storm hitting professional football and Wenger's stinginess must ironically save us all.

It is sad to be an Arsenal fan now but we had a decade of bragging rights under Wenger. Now is still too soon to jettison him.

Does this include the likes of Wilshire and Simpson?

Yes, they don't call him the Professor for nothing. In fact I would go so far as to say that other English managers also learnt from Wenger's techniques like diet, scientific technology etc. On the flipside Wenger's stubborness has probably created some of the problems that the Gooners now face.

Btw success comes in cycles Bro. I say this as a long suffering Reds fan who grew up on huge success in the 70s and 80s only to endure great misery from the 90s onwards, ironically ever since that darn Michael Thomas in a Gooners jersy scored the second goal at Anfield in the last minute.

Since the days of Liam Brady who incidentally is probably the best Gunner ever. Never seen Brady played? The entertainment value then and now are different.

Why do you attribute the crisis with Wenger's decision not to buy? As a matter of fact, he made several purchases with the emphasis on youth. His perception of value is different from most managers and that is the reason y he is special. Easier to train and mold youngplayers than big names.

He may buy in January to replace Gallas. Bad trade when they swap this useless french for Cole. It was even worse when they bought that farking red devil who is way past his sell by date.

Liam Brady is doing the legwork in UK. there are alot of other french players in their youth setup.
Platini hit out at Wenger recently because he was depriving the french league of promising players which the smallers clubs have recruited. One frenchman betraying another but who gives a fark.
Arse is competing with 'bigger' clubs like Lyon for french talent and Grimandi is doing an excellent job in france.

What comes in cycles? The boom and bust?C'mon Anfield could not find a single decent coach that could emulate Bob and Joe. The closest they came to was Gerard who won them the mickey mouse treble.
Past Liverpool teams are at best cup teams and the current one is no different.

It all started with Shanks and the famous "Boot Room" culture and tradition and this goes back to the early 60s. Unfortunately after King Kenny started to give in to the pressure, there was no one left from that culture and tradition to build on. Everything went downhill from there.

As for the "current one", it may well spring a surprise as this seasons EPL appears to be the most open and competitive one ever, both at the top and at the bottom.

Fergie hails red-card referee
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes referees in England should take a leaf out of Roberto Rosetti's book.

Ferguson was pleased with the way the Italian official dealt with some stiff challenges on Cristiano Ronaldo and other issues during United's 0-0 Champions League draw with Villarreal.

Rosetti did not hesitate to hand out a red card to Joan Capdevila for a high challenge on Ronaldo seven minutes from time.

And Ferguson claimed Ronaldo gets better protection in Europe than on the domestic scene.

He said: "The systematic fouling on him is what is happening in our game now. That is a tactic. Someone fouls him, then someone else has another foul.

"The referee thinks he is diving all the time and the crowd are screaming. So that is the problem.

"The referee was very fair and strict with both teams. He (Capdevila) may not have got that red card in England so there is a different interpretation of the physical aspect of the game in European matches."

Ronaldo was left with stud marks above his knee following the challenge and Ferguson added: "When you see the tackle again, it was very high. When you go as high as that you risk a red card.

"There were three tackles on Cristiano and I think the referee has quite rightly booked the players and then dished out a red card."

Ferguson also revealed that Wayne Rooney had apologised for going to ground too easily believing he had won a penalty.

The striker's action incensed the crowd but he escaped without a booking.

Ferguson said: "I think Wayne anticipated the challenge as he was expecting a penalty kick. It is unusual for him to do that.

"I have seen it and he has apologised to me. I think he has been watching (Robert) Pires too much.

"At least Wayne apologised to the Villarreal players. You would never see Pires do that."

Ferguson was at a loss to explain why United and Villarreal have played out four successive 0-0 draws, but at least both sides have the consolation of going through to the next stage of the competition.

"It is amazing in these four games we have not had a goal. I bet the public are hoping we do not meet in Rome," Ferguson added.

"I do not know how that is because we are an attacking side and Villarreal have a great record themselves.

"It is unusual for four games to end up 0-0. I thought we carried a bigger threat than them tonight. We had better opportunities in the match.

"But we are satisfied we are into the next stage. That's want we wanted to achieve. We have an advantage over Villarreal now.

"We have a home game against Aalborg and they have to go to Celtic so hopefully we can win the group."

Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini conceded United will finish the group as leaders.

He said: "They are not going to lose to Aalborg - that's for certain."

Pellegrini was cautious about his side's treatment of Ronaldo.

"It was not a rough game, and you have to challenge him," he said.

"Our objective is complete, and that is to qualify. However, we did notice the absence of some of our offensive players."
