Every National Day reminds me of someone who charted the course of history in Singapore.
Last Sunday's 44th National Day celebration was a more emotional one as it again reminded me of the person who was at the parade: Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew (above left, with Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong).
Our achievements are due to MM Lee's remarkable vision, and his team of capable lieutenants.
While Sir Stamford Raffles may have founded Singapore when he sussed out the island in 1819 for economic and political advantage on behalf of the British empire, it was MM Lee who charted the significant course of our island's modern history and transformed Singapore into the significant 'little red dot' that it is today.
For the 44th National Day, I wish MM Lee good health and hope that he will consider a nomination as our next president.
There is none more deserving of the highest state office than MM Lee.
