Another incoming lawsuit? (Shane Todd case)

Re: How can a postive guy took his own life? It doesn't makes sense!

In a detailed opening statement, Mr Tai said searches on Shane’s laptop revealed he had accessed several “suicide-related websites” and websites related to depression.
“The internet history on the laptop also shows that during the last few months of his life, several depression-related web pages were accessed,” he told the inquiry.

If that is the cover-up story, it is not at all easily to create that.

“From what I assessed at the scene I did not suspect foul play,” said Ang Yew Hua, a 26-year-old staff sergeant.

The police had decided not to dust the apartment for fingerprints, he said.

That's sloppy police work ...unless it was done deliberately.

Thus far, we are reading of the PAP's side of this murder-to-coverup-illegal transfer of technology to China case.

The members here are no different. The number of lies spread about the PAP in this forum has been absolutely ludicrous.

There were numerous times where I was forced to rebut the innuendos and outright drivel. Such falsehoods cannot go unchallenged.

You will be honoured with highest award from the PAP.

Re: Shane Todd case: SPF computer forensic, not competent!

What a fucking family. How they ended up concocting a whole series of lies. The father claimed he found the hard drive. They must think that Asians live on tree houses, swing from tree to tree and plug fruits for their meals.

Before you act like the know-all and launch your invectives against a grieving family, let me jolt your memory. There is a portable hard drive which the SPF missed. They have asked for it to be returned and the family refused but offered an image of it to the SPF.

The PAP does live in a hole.

Re: Shane Todd case: SPF computer forensic, not competent!

Before you act like the know-all

It's not an act, it's a delusion, same as you-know-who.

If someone were to tell you-know-who he and his family members aren't that great, he will genuinely be shocked.
Same with this forummer.

Re: How can a postive guy took his own life? It doesn't makes sense!

What about the first report of bolts fastened to bathroom wall by which Todd hung himself?
No fucking bolt in bathroom wall now?
Do not even have the holes in the wall that the bolt supposed to make?

Same kind of suicide as AhLoong first wife?
Same kind of suicide as Mr Teh Cheng Wan?

Re: Todd case - fpro bono laywers

You believe the white-wash?

And why are you so quick to conclude against the family? You have formed your conclusion just after hearing the PAP's side of the story.

Ang-mos dare to challenge authority and questions. You seem to have a problem with that.

You can see all the fucking PAP clones in this forum mobilised big time to spin and spin and blow smoke screen.
Make you wonder what the fuck those fucking PAP paid clones are so fucking knowledgable

And how they can be so fucking sure.

Like rest of us small boys to be fucking bluffed by them.

Shane Todd inquiry: FBI backs evidence that police had recovered and examined hard drive

By Lim Yan Liang & Feng Zengkun

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has backed evidence presented in court, which showed that the hard drive in the centre of the Shane Todd coroner's inquiry was recovered by the police at the American researcher's home where he was found hanged.

The United States law enforcement agency also confirmed that it is the same hard drive that the Singapore police had returned to Dr Todd's parents after his death on Jun 28 last year.

This was also a day after police had examined the hard drive and determined that it was not relevant to the its investigations, said the FBI.

State Counsel Teo Lu Jia revealed this on Tuesday when she presented a report by the FBI during the coroner's inquiry into Dr Todd's death.

Dr Todd, 31, was found hung in his Chinatown apartment on the evening of Jun 24 last year by his girlfriend, His parents were quoted in a Financial Times article published in February, saying that they had found the hard drive in Dr Todd's apartment, which they visited after his death. The article then said a computer expert the family hired found that a "shadow" file was created when someone accessed the hard drive on June 27, and subsequently deleted.

Assistant Superintendent Soong Yen Peng, from the Criminal Investigation Department's Technology Crime Forensic Branch (TCFB), however, told the court that the file was a temporary file automatically created and deleted when a Microsoft Office file is open and closed.

She confirmed a report she filed for the TCFB that police investigating officer Muhammad Khaldun had plugged into his laptop and accessed on the evening of Jun 27.

The FBI report also concurred with ASP Soong's findings.

So what about the hard-drive that makes you think he was murdered???

the web history files can be manipulated to make him look like he has been surfing those suicides websites!!

all evidences are pointing to manipulation and concealment.

there are just too many questions!!!

The PAP regime is presenting their side of the story so far. Wait till the Todd family present theirs. And you can bet the PAP press will minimize the latter's position.

Evidence for suicide!

Evidence for suicide

According to a Singaporean police report, Todd was found hanging from an improvised noose tied over his bathroom door.

The court heard that Todd had a long history of depression. In March 2012, he saw a psychiatrist in Singapore, and complained of stress, anxiety and depression. He was prescribed anti-depressants but did not return to the psychiatrist.

How could one time appointment with a psychiatrist can be considered as conclusive prove for suicide? People who don't go to see psychiatrist can commit suicide too, likewise our Ministers do see psychiatrist too! do you think any of them have committed suicide yet?

The state’s counsel said that Todd had accessed several websites on suicide and depression. He searched keywords such as “noose,” “hangman,” “short drop,” and “simple suspension” between March 10 and June 23, the day before his body was found.

web history files can hacked into and be manipulated. who knows if others are using his computer to search for such information? maybe his friends? this cannot be conclusive prove too. thinking of suicide may not mean he will go and do it.

Todd wrote suicide notes on his laptop and left a handwritten note with the password before he died. One such letter addressed to “Mom and Dad,” according to state counsel, read: “As you know, I have been going through a difficult time and I am facing problems that I don’t know how to solve. I just know how much of a burden I will be to you in the future so I feel it is better to do this now rather than wait until I have caused more damage.” His parents say that letter did not sound like it was written by their son.

I agree with this too, because American thinking and Singaporeans or Chinese thinking are different. They are more positive kinds of people, and will not worry things like dropping a 10K equipment and lose sleep because of this.

One of the policemen who was first on the scene told the inquest that Todd’s apartment showed no signs of being ransacked or searched. “From what I assessed at the scene I did not suspect foul play,” he said.

If he really encountered assassins, surely 6 hours would have been ample time for them to clean up everything since they are bunch of professionals!!!

Two US-based pathologists have agreed with a Singaporean expert’s report that Shane died of “asphyxia due to hanging,” according to the state prosecutor.

This is not conclusive proof that he committed suicide. Assassins could have killed him in this way.

Evidence against suicide

Todd’s girlfriend, Shirley Sarmiento, conceded that he was depressed, but said he “did not display any suicidal tendencies.” He was anxious, and felt “heavy hands coming after him.”
Michael Goodwin, Todd’s 46-year-old Canadian neighbour, agreed that Shane was not suicidal. “I don’t believe he was the type of person who would take his own life,” he told the court. “He always seemed an upbeat and positive guy.”

The inquest is expected to hear from over 60 witnesses, including Todd’s parents, over the course of 12 days. The verdict, which by Singaporean law cannot be appealed, is likely by late June

Singapore criminal laws are actually useless, when political influences come into play.

SGP Government should tell the truth, otherwise SGP Government would have murdered Shane Todd Once again!!

There has been reports of Singapore government supplying Military Jets engines to Iran, a trade embargo country by the USA, through a Russian Intermediary. On a side note, majority of the Singaporean government comprises of Chinese Race. Do you think we won't help China by sharing Military secrets?

Even though Blood is thicker than water. Justice for Shane Todd and his mother's LOVE is more important than kin-ships.

The shits really need to hit the fan and let everybody smell the disgust of it.

Re: Evidence for suicide!

There are too many holes in the PAP government case for suicide that only those who do not follow the case will believe.

Right now, we are just being fed the government's conclusion. The parents have yet to present their case.

The parents didn't kick out a scenario out of the blue ...they formed a suspicion after combing through the portable hard drive which the SPF missed.

What the hell! First they deny it now they admit it!

There is inconsistencies and it is getting more and more suspicious! Was he killed because he refused to cooperate?

Parents insist engineer was murdered

Months before Shane Todd was found hanging in his Singapore apartment, the US engineer told his parents his life was being threatened.

''We believe our son was murdered. We know our son was murdered,'' said Mary Todd, a US pastor who has arrived in Singapore for a coronial inquiry that centres on claims involving Huawei, the Chinese communications company likely to emerge with all or part of a $2 billion-plus contract to build an ultra-fast mobile network for Optus in Australia.

According to Singapore's official version of events, Shane Todd, 31, committed suicide in June, one week before he was due to return to the US after 18 months working for a Singapore government research centre, the Institute of Microelectronics (IME).

But the death has struck a nerve amid global tensions over alleged spying operations originating from China after the chance finding of what Mrs Todd thought was a speaker among her son's belongings days after his death.

It turned out to be a hard drive that contained thousands of documents Todd had backed up from his work computer. Experts engaged by Mrs Todd and her husband, Rick, say the hard drive contained a draft of a project outline between IME and Huawei on the development of an amplifier device that used a compound used in semiconductors called gallium nitride.

The heat-resistant material has uses in products such as LED screens but has military applications in radar and satellite systems.

Shane Todd had been trained in the US on proprietary equipment that produces the material but is restricted for export because of the potential military applications.

Rick Todd said his son told him: ''I think they've asked me to compromise US security. I feel like I would be betraying my country.''

IME and Huawei have denied they were collaborating on research on the material.

Singapore's Foreign Affairs and Law Minister, K. Shanmugam, said in March that Todd worked on a small project with Huawei for nine months but research on gallium nitride never went ahead.

The circumstances of Todd's death are being contested at the 12-day inquest opened on Monday.

An original autopsy concluded that Todd died by hanging before his Filipino girlfriend found his body suspended from a door in his apartment two days after he quit his job at IME. Two US medical examiners agreed with the findings in evidence on Monday.

Police also testified that an examination of Todd's laptop found he had visited suicide-related websites on 19 occasions last year, most of which were on June 23, the day before he was found dead.

But an investigation by reporters commissioned by the Financial Times brought the case to the attention of the FBI, US senators and Secretary of State John Kerry, who raised it with Mr Shanmugam.

Mrs Todd says a suicide note was fake because it contained incorrect facts and didn't look like her son's writing.

Huawei denies work in field linked to U.S. death in Singapore

(Reuters) - Chinese telecommunications company Huawei said on Monday it had not worked with an institute in Singapore on any projects in the specialist field of an American engineer who died mysteriously last year shortly after leaving the institute.

Britain's Financial Times said on Saturday that Shane Todd had been working on "what was apparently a joint project" between Singapore's Institute of Microelectronics, or IME, and Huawei shortly before he died last June.

His parents have said he was murdered because of his involvement in the project, which they say involved exporting sensitive military technology to China.

IME declined immediate comment.

Singapore police said they were still investigating the death of Todd, 31, and would submit their evidence to a coroner. Singaporean pathologists concluded in an autopsy last June that he died by hanging in his Singapore flat.

"IME approached Huawei on one occasion to cooperate with them in the GaN field, but we decided not to accept, and consequently do not have any cooperation with IME related to GaN," Huawei said in a statement.

Todd's area of expertise was Gallium Nitride (GaN), an advanced semiconductor material which has both commercial and military purposes. It is used in things from blue-ray disc players to military radars.

Huawei said that the development of GaN technology was commonplace across the telecommunications industry.

Reuters reviewed evidence the family presented supporting its theory a few weeks after his death, including emails, other documents and photographs.

Interviews with the family, colleagues and friends revealed conflicting views on Todd's state of mind before his death, the nature of his work and how he died.

Colleagues said that he was increasingly depressed in his last few months, but said that his concerns appeared to centre on a sense of failure about his work, and an ambivalence about returning to the United States.

Researchers in unrelated fields have also questioned how, if his work was so sensitive, he was able to take home computer files from his office. His family retrieved a hard drive which included work files in his flat.

IME is part of a network of research institutes managed by government-run Agency for Science, Technology and Research, or A*Star.

A former A*Star researcher now working in the United States pointed out that IME and other A*Star institutes were not military research organizations.

"AFRAID"

At the heart of the family's theory is that Todd was concerned for his safety because of a project with a Chinese company. They believed, through information from his colleagues and from his computer files, that the company was Huawei.

Reuters can't independently corroborate their views about the role of Huawei or the circumstances of Todd's death.

Huawei is one of the world's largest telecommunication equipment companies, but has been blocked from some projects in Australia and deemed a security risk by the U.S. congress on the grounds that its equipment could be used for spying.

Huawei has routinely denied such accusations and has said it is not linked to the Chinese government.

Todd's parents said in interviews in July that Singapore police and IME had failed to properly investigate his death after his body was found hanging from a door in his Singapore apartment on the evening of June 24, two days after he quit IME.

Singapore police say they have handled the case as they have handled other cases, and their procedures follow high international standards. They said in such cases of unnatural death, "no prior assumptions" were made about the cause.

The parents did not immediately respond to emails requesting comment on the Financial Times report but Todd's mother, Mary, said in a telephone interview with Reuters last July that he had been scared.

"I had been talking to him for months for at least an hour every week and he told us he was afraid of being murdered because of his contacts with the Chinese government," she said.

"He quit his job because of it."

Huawei declined to say whether they had been working on other projects with IME. Colleagues said shortly after Todd's death that he had told them at one point he had been working on a project with Huawei but that it was not sensitive or high-level in nature.

One described it as carrying out "measurement test reports" of semiconductors.

The Financial Times said that Todd had been involved in proposing a joint project with Huawei. While it did not say whether the project was approved, it quoted his parents as saying that subsequently he complained to them of being asked to do things with a Chinese company he did not identify that made him uncomfortable.
