'Caucasian, a term I dislike.'
<!-- story content : start -->DR GIL SCHNEIDER: 'At the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority I was recently asked to state my race. The lady at the counter suggested 'Caucasian', a term I dislike. In Europe, Caucasian refers to a person or language from the Caucasus region. It is mainly in the United States, however, that this terms means a person of white skin. The term has its roots in 19th-century efforts by dubious academics trying to establish race categories which are scientifically discredited and which formed the foundations of absurd Fascist and Nazi race theories. I therefore appeal to all government bodies and the public at large to drop this term and replace it with something more appropriate and less offensive. Even if it is not entirely correct, 'European' would be a better choice.'
