Once word spreads that debt will be forgiven on compassionate grounds, the numbers of "poor" will multiply exponentially and before you realise it, half the population is receiving some form of welfare payout or subsidy.

Of course the money has to come from somewhere and those who are penalised are the honest and hardworking who pay their bills on time. Their bills will go up because they have to cover the shortfall.

The GINI coefficient may look good on paper but the unfairness of the situation doesn't escape those who are being taxed to death. The net result is decaying society mired in debt.

It sounds like someone who is level headed and understands the consequences of a touchy, feely approach towards bad debt.

If Aljunied residents are as kind hearted as they make themselves out to be, they would volunteer to help pay the bills of the less fortunate rather than leave it as a bad debt on the books of the town council.

Contribute to the well being of fellow beings, does not go to the extent of taking on his debts and burden yourself and encourage the debtor to continue to do so.

Bills have to be paid. Services have been rendered. And you think becos you are in oppo ward, therefore you can 'opt to pay or not to pay'? And those who pay should 'subsidize' those who will not pay?
