13.11.2012 - Serangoon Division Deepavali Goodies Distribution

"As part of Serangoon Division Deepavali celebration, rations, lunch pack, cakes and Diwali sweet desserts were distributed to low-income Hindu families. In line with Singapore’s multi-racial society to join in the Deepavali celebration, Muslim and Chinese low-income families were also invited to receive the goodies. Earlier in the week, MP for Aljunied GRC, Ms Sylvia Lim, also went door-to-door wishing Hindu low-income families in Serangoon Division, Happy Deepavali. Red packet (Hong Bao) and greeting card were also distributed to these families." - Way

"It is illustrative of the trend that the number of people at the top 1 per cent has increased over the years," Mr Giam said.

He added that there could still be significant non-taxable income of these high earners not reflected in the data.

The Workers' Party

In this issue of the Hammer, Non-Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong said that a review of Singapore's foreign scholarship policy is 'long overdue.' While recognising the contributions of talented foreigners and the need to welcome them in our universities, this must be done at their expense, just as many Singaporeans study overseas at their own cost. He posits that Singapore should not blindly follow a policy while suitable many years ago, is no longer as useful today.
