At 10.30am, we started transporting the rice from the store to the event location at Blk 146 Serangoon North Avenue 1. The 25kg packs of rice were particular heavy. There must had been at least 20 packs of them. However, this did not deter us from our purpose in mind, that is, to distribute the rice to residents. Over at the event location, another group of volunteers had set up the place, turning the void deck into a temporary "rice packaging factory". From 11.30am, the 25kg packs of rice were re-packed into smaller bags of 1kg and sealed. This went on for 4 hours. Residents started streaming in, even before the event start time of 3pm. Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, Ms Sylvia Lim, immediately got into action the moment she arrived and distributed the packets of rice to the residents. It was another 3 hours before the few hundred packets of rice were all distributed. Seeing the smiles and the acknowledgement from the residents, we knew that all our hardwork was well worth it. And of course, we have to thank our kind donors who contributed the rice. - Hong Boon
