Aljunied GRC MPs Outreach...

14.07.2012 - An invite to 'Dignity Kitchen'

Pritam Singh the MP for Aljunied GRC, Eunos was invited to the Dignity Kitchen on the 14th of July. The Dignity Kitchen is a hawker centre that aims to give the disabled and disadvantaged not only purpose, but useful skills that they may use for life. The Dignity Kitchen teaches them to cook so that they can be competent in the working industry. Dignity Kitchen aims to provide the disabled and disadvantaged with some dignity, and hopes to break the stereotypes existent in society.

The place is run by many volunteers with a great positive attitude. Even though Mr Singh was there on an invite for a supposed special occasion, it was a rather casual and heartwarming affair. People of all ages, young and old, were there to support the various hawker stalls mended by the disabled and disadvantaged. The Dignity Kitchen also invited the elderly and hired a bus to bring them down from the old folks’ home. At the event, they even had Karaoke available to entertain the elderly. The event was full of kind hearted and good natured people.

The place also had nice little touches that made the place so much more unique, such as, signs to teach people how to order their coffee using sign language! We look forward to dining at the Dignity Kitchen again and hope that more people will support this noble initiative.

15.07.2012 - 1 Day Durian Trip (Eunos) (131 photos)
On 15 July, Eunos, Kaki Bukit and Serangoon divisions head over to Johor Bahru with just one goal in mind - to eat as much durian as possible.

There was indeed a great deal of excitement and anticipation over the one day 'durian tasting' trip. Indeed, the residents could look forward to a full day's programme besides eating durian including a visit to a brown rice retail shop, mushroom farm, shop selling all things tapioca and of course the mandatory opportunities to bring home lots of tidbits and goodies.

Singaporeans obsession with durian, the 'king of fruits' is well known, and it was evident that the residents took their durian eating seriously. Some residents were determined to save themselves for the big event, eating a light lunch in anticipation of the feast of durians to come. Things certainly got off to a bang for MPs Sylvia Lim, Pritam Singh, Mohd Faisal Manap as well as newly elected MP Png Eng Huat who was here to reconnect with the Kaki Bukit residents he had served for over 9 months, as they were each asked to light a firecracker upon arrival at the durian farm.

Far more spectacular was the durian eating that was going on. Whatever ones preferences, whether for the sweet or bitter flavoured durian, the softer or firmer textured flesh, or whether larger or smaller fruit was better, there was durian in abundance.

The trip ended with a sumptuous 8 course dinner at restaurant 88 where all 15 buses gathered together. It had been a fruitful day judging by the number of bags the residents had to unload at the Singapore customs - bags full of everything from pomelos to pineapples, tidbits, crackers, and snacks of all types, and of course more durian since you can't really get enough.

It was close to midnight by the time we all arrived back to our respective divisions tired but happy. Despite the occasional mishap, and wrong turn, it was an enjoyable trip for all - a chance to bond with family members and friends, for the MPs to relax and interact with residents in a casual setting, to shop, and of course to indulge in our national obsession with durians.

The card on their hand indicates which bus these volunteers are from. This is used to indicate to residents who their respective bus leaders were.

Cards indicating bus number are placed in front to enable residents to locate buses. It is definitely easier for them to remember such numbers than bus plate number :)

Good Thread! :D

If anyone criticizes WP Party of not organising activities for its constituents, can always refer them to this thread. No such coverage in MSM..

Are you their FB page administrator as well? As same photos as the FB page :D

no, i'm not. me just a wp supporter like to see the pap go ....:):):)

When the old men fell and bruised, Pritam quickly came with a first aid for him. When PAP minister's arms got slightly hurt, they were given very neat bandage to pose in front of msm's photographer and had wayang articles written to show how much the "fallen" PAP cares for the people. See the stark contrast between being PAP and opposition?
