On the afternoon of 22 Jan, eve of CNY, MP Sylvia Lim went on a pre-CNY estate inspection, to assess how the conservancy workers were coping with the extra waste such as many bulky items being discarded by residents as they purchase new items for the New Year. "We see cushions, fridges, sound systems and even sofas left at the lift lobbies and bin centres," she noted. "As arranged by the Town Council, our conservancy contractors and their workers are doing extra rounds to dispose the items and to clear bin chutes and bin centers". Residents have also been doing their part. One resident was observed coming to a bin centre to throw items, so as not to clog up the common areas. Another resident told Sylvia that he appreciated the hard work of the cleaners, who had been doing back-breaking work clearing items, only to find fresh items left for clearance. Accompanying Sylvia on her rounds to inspect lift lobbies, bin chutes and bin centres were representatives of Aljunied-Hougang Town Council and the conservancy contractors.
