AGC warns against public or online comments on Thaipusam incident

Any public comments could have a real risk of prejudicing the ongoing court proceedings, the Attorney-General's Chambers says.

SINGAPORE: In the wake of the arrest of three Singaporeans for various offences allegedly committed during a Thaipusam procession on Feb 3, the Attorney-General's Chambers on Wednesday (Feb 11) issued a reminder warning against public comments, including on the Internet, as such statements may be sub judice contempt of court.

The accused face various charges, ranging from disorderly conduct to voluntarily causing hurt to a police officer. The three - Ramachandra Chandramohan, 32, Jaya Kumar Krishnasamy, 28, and Gunasegaran Rajendran, 33 - are out on bail and will appear in court again on Mar 6.
Said the AGC in a press release on Wednesday: "As criminal proceedings are currently before the Courts, we would like to remind the public that statements made may be sub judice contempt of court, if the statements are calculated to affect the judicial process and there is a real risk of prejudice being caused to the ongoing proceedings."

Under sub judice laws, commenting on a case being considered by the court may be considered interference with due process.
"All parties are advised to refrain from making any public comments, or posting any statements on the Internet on these matters which may have that effect, pending final determination of the legal proceedings by the Courts," the AGC added.

"The Attorney-General’s Chambers takes a serious view of statements made which are calculated to interfere with the integrity of the administration of justice. Anyone who has information on the case should send it to the Police."

AGC to go fuck themselves .. Now everyone knows about that incident and will talk more on the shit police behaviour...

This only happens when PAP is in charge

Why cannot talk? Something is not right with the police?

If people are allowed to air their views, the PAP might lose the indian votes in the coming GE

The white scums definitely going to lose lots of Indian votes even if they stop people from commenting.

when they themselves have lost their integrity to lead the justice system, go fuck off. Need to replace these bunch of PAP fat cronies.

You Sinkies are finished, after embarrassing your Elites.

Stop accusing our courts of being biased. Sinkies have no grounds to make such baseless accusations against our impartial and upright courts.

Prove it first, they seem to be abusing power by telling everyone to shut up or else they will be convicting these guys big time. The message is that the law is not impartial and can be affected by how others comment about them.

AGC was taken by surprise, they assumed sinkies would be too busy making ends meet to make comments on the Thaipusam incident.

i dont understand how online comments or coffee shop can influence the process
judges are impartial and we do NOT have a jury system,

so please enlighten me

Yah exactly right, just flexing oppressive muscle and not transparent.

"All Parties" refer to parties ie., Police, DPPs and the Accused and related families...OR TO EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE WORLD???

Surely cannot be the latter right?

Why issue a vaguely worded warning?

I understand that in some cuntry cases of public interest will not go to court so soon, they will sit on it for months, year even ... until public sentiments have died down in order that judges' decision won't be swayed
